Abstract

Background: Difficult Airway Management (DAM), characterized by challenges in intubation and ventilation, is a significant concern in general anesthesia. It can lead to fatal complications; the risk of intubation failure has been reported to be as high as 2.6 per 1000 cases in general anesthesia. Despite this, 80% of nurses have not yet demonstrated proficiency in DAM procedures. Therefore, educational institutions must evaluate and enhance students' knowledge with attitudes toward DAM to minimize the risk of complications. Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the knowledge with attitudes of D-IV Anesthesiology Nursing students regarding Difficult Airway Management in general anesthesia. Method: This study used a quantitative cross-sectional design and involved 150 students who were selected through stratified random sampling. The instrument, a Likert scale (1-5) questionnaire, was an adaptation from previous relevant research. It was validated, and the reliability test yielded Cronbach's Alpha values of 0.858 for the knowledge scale and 0.832 for the attitude scale. Result: Data analysis using the non-parametric Spearman's Rho test revealed a significant positive correlation between the knowledge with attitudes of D-IV Anesthesiology Nursing students regarding DAM in general anesthesia (p-value 0.000 < 0.050). Conclusion: Higher knowledge among students is associated with better attitudes regarding the DAM in general anesthesia

Abstract

Background: Heart failure is a complex clinical condition associated with a high risk of rehospitalization and increased mortality. Rehospitalization is often influenced by patients' adherence to dietary recommendations and medication regimens. Objective: This study aimed to identify the levels of dietary and medication adherence among heart failure patients who experienced rehospitalization. Method: A quantitative descriptive study with a retrospective approach was conducted at the Integrated Cardiac Care Unit of Prof. Dr. I.G.N.G Ngoerah General Hospital in Denpasar, Bali. Data were collected using the DSR-SCB Scale and the MARS-10 questionnaire. A total of 86 participants were selected using purposive sampling. Result: The result revealed that 64 patients (74.4%) demonstrated non-adherence to dietary recommendations, while only 22 patients (25.6%) were adherent. Regarding medication adherence, 50 patients (58.1%) were categorized as non-adherent, and 36 patients (41.9%) as adherent. Conclusion: Most patients who experience rehospitalization demonstrate non-adherence to both dietary recommendations and prescribed medications. Patient non-adherence may be associated with sociodemographic factors such as age, gender, and educational level, in addition to limited health literacy and inadequate family support. Reducing the risk of rehospitalization requires the implementation of structured discharge planning and the provision of comprehensive education for both patients and caregivers

Abstract

Background: Men who have sex with men (MSM) are a key population in the HIV epidemic in Indonesia but continue to face multiple barriers in accessing healthcare services, including stigma, lack of privacy, and limited facilities and human resources. Objective: This study aims to explore the perceptions of MSM living with HIV regarding the quality of healthcare services at community health centers (Puskesmas) in Medan City, as well as to identify the supporting and hindering factors in service utilization. Methods: This qualitative study employed in-depth interviews with 21 HIV-positive MSM and four VCT program officers at Puskesmas Helvetia, Padang Bulan, Teladan, and Medan Deli. Data were thematically analyzed through manual coding to identify key patterns and themes. Results: Services such as education, counseling, outreach, and peer support were perceived as beneficial, particularly due to collaboration with NGOs like Medan Plus, Galatea, and PKBI. However, challenges remain, including lack of privacy during registration and medication pickup, and fear of being recognized. Positive interactions with healthcare workers emerged as a key factor in fostering patient comfort and trust. Conclusion: Although healthcare services for HIV-positive MSM in Medan have been implemented relatively well, improvements are still needed, especially in ensuring privacy, comfort, and the active involvement of the MSM community in service delivery to enhance access, adherence, and their overall quality of life.

Abstract

Abstract

Background: To deliver the fetus, placenta, and amniotic fluid, a cesarean section is a surgical operation that involves making an incision in the uterus and abdominal wall. Systolic and diastolic blood pressure measurements can be used to detect hypotension. The Mean Arterial Pressure (MAP) measurement, which measures the average arterial pressure that sustains constant blood flow to bodily tissues during the cardiac cycle, is typically used to evaluate hypotension in post-spinal anesthesia situations. Objective: This study aims to describe the MAP in patients undergoing cesarean section with spinal anesthesia technique. Method: Descriptive observational methodology using a cross-sectional approach is employed. Using the entire sampling technique, 80 patients made up the research sample. Result: The majority of respondents, according to the data, were between the ages of 20 and 35, had a normal body mass index, and had no medical history. The majority of individuals had normal MAP levels prior to spinal anesthesia. After spinal anesthesia, at minutes 1, 2, and 3, the majority of patients experienced MAP in the optimal category. The decrease in MAP was caused by the effects of spinal anesthesia affecting vascular tone. The results of this study are expected to serve as a basis for decision-making in intraoperative hemodynamic monitoring. Conclusion: There are changes in MAP values in patients undergoing Sectio Caesarea after receiving spinal anesthesia. Before anesthesia, most MAP values were within the normal range. However, after the application of spinal anesthesia, the majority of patients showed optimal MAP values.
