Abstract

Digital innovation has made a huge impact in the management of zakat and waqf, introducing new efficiencies in the process of collecting, distributing, and monitoring funds. By utilizing technologies such as mobile applications, blockchain, and big data, zakat and waqf management institutions can improve transparency, accountability, and community participation. Islamic crowdfunding platforms and mobile zakat apps make it easier for donors to participate, while blockchain technology ensures transparency and integrity of every transaction. However, challenges such as low digital literacy, limited infrastructure in remote areas, and high implementation costs are still major obstacles. To overcome these challenges, zakat and waqf management institutions need to focus on improving digital education, developing more equitable infrastructure, and implementing better security systems. Nonetheless, the digitalization of zakat and waqf provides a great opportunity to expand social impact and improve the sustainability of Islamic philanthropy in the future. By optimally utilizing technology, zakat and waqf can become more effective tools in creating social justice and economic empowerment.

Abstract

The development of Islamic banking in Indonesia cannot be separated from the global progress of Islamic banking. The idea of establishing an Islamic bank emerged alongside the growth of Islamic banking on the international stage, which began in the 1970s, as previously mentioned. The emergence of Islamic banks globally influenced financial institutions in Indonesia. However, Syafi’i Antonio explains that the specific initiative to establish an Islamic bank in Indonesia only began in 1990. On August 18-20, 1990, the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) held a workshop on Bank Interest and Banking in Cisarua, Bogor, West Java. The outcomes of this workshop were further discussed during the Fourth National Conference of the MUI held at Sahid Hotel, Jakarta, on August 22-25, 1990. Based on the mandate of the Fourth National Conference of the MUI, a working group was formed to establish an Islamic bank in Indonesia. Oversight of banking operations became a significant topic in the development of Islamic banking in Indonesia. This is primarily due to the unique oversight method implemented by the National Sharia Council (DSN) under the supervision of Bank Indonesia (BI). Muhammad Syafi’i Antonio (MSA), a Muslim intellectual specializing in Islamic economics, particularly Islamic banking, conducted an in-depth study on all aspects of Islamic banks, including the supervision of banking management. What makes this topic compelling is MSA’s proposal of various alternatives for Islamic banks, focusing particularly on the aspect of supervision. Through a sharia-based approach authorized by the country's constitution, MSA compares personal compliance of banking practitioners with institutional professionalism. This method proves to be highly effective in implementing layered oversight for Islamic banks. Therefore, the author finds it intriguing to bring MSA’s thoughts into a thesis titled An Analysis of Islamic Banking Supervision in Indonesia (A Study of Muhammad Syafi’i Antonio’s Islamic Economic Thought). This research specifically aims to uncover MSA’s remarkable thoughts, as someone who has both theoretical and practical expertise in Islamic banking and its supervisory mechanisms, while also serving as a strategic step to understand the regulations established by Islamic law (sharia) and statutory laws regarding supervisory patterns for Islamic banking practitioners.

Abstract

Article history: This research aims to analyze how populism weakens democratic practices in Indonesia and formulate solutions to keep democracy healthy. With Friedrich Nietzsche's existentialism perspective, this research highlights the importance of individual freedom and responsibility in choosing qualified leaders. The research uses a legal method with a legislative and philosophical approach. The results show that Indonesian democracy, which is synonymous with the division of power between the executive, legislative, and judicial branches, is often distorted by the influence of populism. Elections held every five years to elect people's representatives and executive leaders at various levels are often used by political elites for their interests by exploiting people's emotions through rhetoric and identity politics. This condition is rooted in the criteria for nominating leaders in Law No. 7/2017, which opens space for the emergence of populism and obscures the purpose of democracy “of the people, by the people, and for the people”. To overcome this, the research recommends revising the regulation by adding competency criteria based on the State Civil Apparatus (ASN) merit system for prospective executive leaders. This strategy is a practical implementation of existentialism in legal politics to maintain the quality of democracy while strengthening political education for the community.

Abstract

The prevalence of anxiety disorders among university students is high, particularly during periods of high stress, such as when students are completing their final projects. This research aimed to investigate how self-confidence and anxiety levels relate among students working on their final projects at the Statistics Department at Universitas Negeri Gorontalo. Research was conducted on 86 students aged 21-26 years old using an online questionnaire. Self-confidence, self-efficacy, and social support were independent variables, while anxiety levels (mild, moderate, and severe) were dependent variables. Self-confidence was found to be significantly correlated with anxiety levels, while self-efficacy and social support were not significantly correlated. The result of ordinal logistic regression analysis indicated that students with high self-confidence were 0.13 times more likely to experience mild or moderate anxiety compared to those with moderate self-confidence. Those with high levels of self-confidence, however, are more likely to suffer from severe anxiety (26%) than those with moderate levels of self-confidence (4%). In certain academic situations, high self-confidence may not be a hindrance against anxiety. A more comprehensive understanding of anxiety will require further research considering additional factors that contribute to anxiety, factors that were not considered in this study.

Abstract

Article history: The advancement of digital technology has brought significant changes to trade transaction patterns, particularly through e-commerce. While online transactions offer convenience and efficiency, consumers face various risks such as fraud, product quality uncertainty, and data privacy breaches. This article analyzes legal protection for consumers in electronic transactions in Indonesia based on the Consumer Protection Act (UUPK) and the Electronic Information and Transactions Act (UU ITE). The research employs a normative-descriptive legal approach and literature review, focusing on civil law regulations regarding online sales agreements. The findings indicate that existing regulations, although relevant, still face implementation challenges, including personal data protection and digital dispute resolution. Recommendations include regulatory updates, strengthening legal oversight, and consumer education to establish a transparent, safe, and fair electronic transaction ecosystem.

Abstract

Tofu industry liquid waste contains ammonia (NH3) and nitrite (NO2-) compounds which can cause pollution if released into the environment without prior processing. Rice husks can be used to make active carbon which acts as a bioadsorbent against various contaminants which is cheap and easy to obtain. The research aims to test the effectiveness of using rice husks in doses of 5 grams, 10 grams and 15 grams as a bioadsorbent on NH3 and NO2- levels in liquid waste at the Rina Tofu Factory. This type of quasi-experimental research with a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) approach. Determination of NH3 and NO2- levels using the spectrophotometric method with three replications. Data were analyzed using the One-Way ANOVA test (? = 5%). The research results showed that the initial concentration of NH3 was 0.16 mg/L and fluctuated after contact with rice husks (5 gram dose: RI = 0.13 mg/L, RII = 0.15 mg/L, RIII = 0.25 mg/L; 10 gram dose: RI = 0.21 mg/L, RII = 0.27 mg/L, RIII = 0.12 mg/L dose 15 grams: RI = 0.32 mg/L, RII = 0.26 mg/L, RIII = 0.30 mg/L). Meanwhile, the initial concentration of NO2- was 0.043 mg/L and increased after contact with rice husks (5 gram dose: RI = 0.091mg/L, RII = 0.138 mg/L, RIII = 0.125 mg/L; 10 gram dose: RI = 0.117 mg/L, RII = 0.151 mg/L, RIII = 0.122 mg/L; 15 gram dose: RI = 0.112 mg/L, RII = 0.137 mg/L, RIII = 0.126 mg/L). There is no difference in the effectiveness of using rice husks on NH3 (?-value = 0.114) and NO2- (?-value = 0.750) levels in liquid waste from the tofu industry. Further research needs to be carried out regarding variations in contact time between rice husks and liquid waste from the tofu industry.
