Abstract

This study aims to identify personal hygiene in housewives; identify the incidence of vaginal discharge in housewives; and analyze the relationship between personal hygiene and the incidence of vaginal discharge in housewives. Most housewives, 71.6% of respondents, reported poor personal hygiene. This indicates that personal hygiene, particularly genital hygiene, is still not optimal. While 59.1% of respondents experienced normal vaginal discharge, the incidence of abnormal vaginal discharge remained quite high at 40.9%. This suggests that vaginal discharge remains a reproductive health issue that requires greater attention. A significant correlation was found between personal hygiene and vaginal discharge among housewives in Purwogondo Kalinyamatan Village, with a p-value of 0.003 and a correlation value of r = -0.314. This indicates a low-moderate negative correlation, meaning that better personal hygiene reduces the likelihood of abnormal vaginal discharge.

Abstract

The insurance industry in Indonesia requires reliable quantitative approaches to accurately determine premium rates and manage claim risks effectively. This study aims to model pure insurance premiums based on claim severity data using the lognormal regression approach. The data used consist of historical individual claim amounts (severity) obtained from a general insurance company in Indonesia, covering the period from 2009 to 2015. Initial data exploration revealed that the distribution of claim values is positively skewed, indicating the suitability of lognormal modeling. Three models were evaluated: Generalized Linear Model (GLM) with Gamma distribution, GLM with Inverse Gaussian distribution, and linear regression with lognormal transformation. Model selection was based on the Akaike Information Criterion (AIC) and Bayesian Information Criterion (BIC). The results show that the lognormal model had the lowest AIC and BIC values, indicating superior performance compared to the other models. The selected model was then used to forecast pure premiums for the next 12 months, followed by the calculation of commercial premiums with a 30% loading factor. The prediction results show a consistent and proportional upward trend in premiums, demonstrating the model’s effectiveness in capturing historical claim patterns and supporting data-driven premium setting.

Abstract

Body Mass Index (BMI) is a primary anthropometric parameter used to quantify an individual's nutritional status by assessing body mass relative to height. Handgrip strength has been identified as a significant indicator that reflects overall physical fitness and is associated with various health outcomes. This study aims to examine the relationship between BMI and handgrip strength among medical students of the Faculty of Medicine, Baiturrahmah University, class of 2024. This study employed an analytical observational design with a cross-sectional approach. Samples were selected using a systematic random sampling technique. A total of 46 participants were included in the study. Handgrip strength was measured using a Camry EH101. Data analysis was conducted using SPSS version 27.0, and Spearman’s correlation test was utilized to assess the relationship between BMI and handgrip strength. The result of the study conclude that The majority of participants were female, totaling 38 individuals (82.6%). The most common age among participants was 19 years, with 27 individuals (58.7%). The mean BMI for male participants was 25.71 kg/m², while for female participants it was 22.13 kg/m². The overall mean BMI for all participants was 22.76 kg/m². The average handgrip strength among male participants was 40.82 kg, compared to 27.90 kg for female participants, with an overall mean handgrip strength of 30.14 kg. The predominant BMI classification for both male and female participants was within the normal range. Regarding handgrip strength classification, the majority of male participants (62.5%) fell within the 40–49.9 kg category, while most female participants (60.5%) were classified within the 20–29.9 kg range. A significant positive correlation was found between BMI and handgrip strength in female participants (r = 0.728, p = 0.001) and in the overall participant group (r = 0.714, p = 0.001), whereas no significant correlation was observed among male participants (r = 0.359, p = 0.389). Therefore, it can be concluded that There is a strong and significant positive correlation between BMI and handgrip strength among the medical students of the Faculty of Medicine, Baiturrahmah University, class of 2024.

Abstract

Hypertension is a major risk factor for global cardiovascular disease, and non-pharmacological interventions are increasingly considered in its management. Young coconut water (Cocos nucifera)—a natural beverage rich in potassium and other minerals—is often used by the public as an alternative therapy due to its affordability and safety. This narrative review aims to evaluate the latest literature evidence (2019–2024) on the effect of regular consumption of young coconut water on lowering blood pressure in hypertensive patients. A literature search was conducted in PubMed and Google Scholar databases using the keywords “hypertension” and “young coconut water” (including publications published between 2019–2024). The selected articles were reviewed qualitatively. Several experimental/quasi-experimental studies reported significant reductions in systolic (SBP) and/or diastolic (DDBP) blood pressure after consuming 150–300 ml of young coconut water per day for 1–6 weeks. The mean BP decreased from 145.8 to 135.3 mmHg (p=0.0002) and DBP from 93.7 to 86.9 mmHg (p<0.00001) in the intervention group compared to the control group. The mechanism of this decrease is associated with the high potassium content and diuretic effect of young coconut water, which increases sodium excretion and suppresses the renin–angiotensin–aldosterone system (RAAS). Regular consumption of young coconut water is effective in helping lower blood pressure in hypertensive patients, with the advantages of low cost and a good safety profile. These findings support the potential of young coconut water as a non-pharmacological adjunct therapy in the management of hypertension.

Abstract

In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) is an assisted reproductive technology that offers a significant solution for legally married couples experiencing infertility. This study aims to examine the medical, ethical, legal, and religious dimensions of IVF, including the use of emerging technologies such as Polygenic Embryo Screening (PES) and the practice of surrogacy. Medically, IVF is effective in addressing various infertility factors, yet it carries risks such as Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome (OHSS), preeclampsia, and metabolic disorders, along with long-term health implications for offspring. Ethically, IVF raises debates regarding the moral status of embryos, the adequacy of informed consent, and concerns about eugenics through embryo selection. Legally, the lack of global harmonization in regulating surrogacy and gamete donation creates challenges in protecting the legal rights of children and intended parents. From an Islamic perspective, IVF is permissible if performed within a valid marriage using the couple’s own gametes, with strict prohibition against third-party involvement to preserve lineage and marital integrity. This study highlights the need for ethical and culturally sensitive regulatory frameworks and recommends further research on long-term health impacts of IVF, the effectiveness of informed consent, and global policy development for PES and surrogacy practices.

Abstract

Organ transplantation is a vital medical solution that faces complex ethical dilemmas in the distribution of limited organs. This study aims to explore and analyze ethical considerations in the distribution of transplanted organs, focusing on the principles of justice and medical priority through a systematic literature review. The search methodology was conducted in the PubMed, ScienceDirect, and Google Scholar databases using the keywords "ethical considerations," "organ transplantation," "justice principles," and "medical priority" for articles published between 2015 and 2025. The principle of distributive justice in organ transplantation integrates multiple criteria that include medical urgency, likelihood of success, age, and healthy lifestyle, while rejecting discriminatory criteria such as economic status or gender. Medical priority influences transplant decisions through systems such as MELD, which emphasize medical urgency but create a dilemma between saving the most critical patients versus optimizing long-term success. Consensus across perspectives indicates that organ transplantation is ethically and religiously acceptable under certain conditions by fulfilling the principles of autonomy, beneficence, non-maleficence, and justice. The findings indicate the need for a framework that harmonizes principles of distributive justice with medical priorities within the context of local cultural and religious values. Practical implications include developing more comprehensive organ distribution guidelines, enhancing the capacity of healthcare professionals in ethical decision-making, and strengthening regulatory systems that accommodate multi-criteria complexity without compromising the principle of justice.

Abstract

Female circumcision or Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) remains a prevalent traditional practice in Indonesia despite having no medical benefits and potentially causing various health complications. This study aims to analyze the practice of female circumcision from three main perspectives: medical ethics, medical regulations, and Islamic law in Indonesia. The research methodology employed a systematic literature review of 20 selected articles from PubMed, ScienceDirect, and Google Scholar databases published between 2015-2025. The results indicate that female circumcision causes various negative impacts including bleeding, infections, psychological trauma, and obstetric complications. Regulatory-wise, Indonesia has revoked the permission for this practice through Ministry of Health Regulation No. 6/2014, but its implementation still faces challenges due to socio-cultural factors and diverse religious interpretations. From the Islamic law perspective, the study found no consensus among scholars regarding the obligation of female circumcision, and the practice is more driven by tradition than strong religious doctrines. This study concludes the need for a multidisciplinary approach integrating health, legal, and socio-cultural aspects to effectively address the issue of female circumcision.

Abstract

Anxiety disorders are one of the most common mental health problems that have a significant impact on an individual's quality of life and productivity. In addition to pharmacological therapy and psychotherapy, music therapy is beginning to be widely used as a non-pharmacological approach to reduce anxiety and improve emotional well-being. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of music therapy as a mental health support intervention in patients with anxiety disorders through a systematic literature review. This study used a systematic literature review method with meta-synthesis, analyzing 21 qualitative and quantitative studies selected from PubMed, EBSCO, and Google Scholar databases (period 2015–2024). Inclusion criteria include studies with a population of patients with anxiety disorders, music therapy interventions, as well as reports of anxiety or quality of life outcomes. Of the 1,463 articles screened, 21 studies were included in the analysis. Results showed that music therapy, both actively (playing or singing) and receptive (listening), was consistently effective in lowering anxiety levels, improving sleep quality, mood, and improving social function in various population groups, including medical patients, college students, and the elderly. Meta-analyses showed high effectiveness of music therapy (effect size Hedges' g >1), with additional benefits in the form of increased motivation and emotional regulation. The combination of music therapy with other interventions such as pharmacotherapy, CBT, or mindfulness improves clinical outcomes. Music therapy is an effective, safe, easy, and affordable non-pharmacological approach to overcome anxiety disorders and improve mental health. The integration of music therapy in mental health services deserves to be considered as part of a comprehensive approach. Further research is needed for protocol optimization and exploration of neurophysiological mechanisms of music therapy in various populations.
