Abstract

The family is considered a fundamental institution that plays an important role in the formation of individuals, especially during the challenging teenage years. When one of the parents is not present, there is an imbalance in psychological development. Fatherless becomes interesting in relation to the unequal parenting of parents. Where the absence of a father in a teenager's life can be caused by the death or divorce of parents, resulting in children not being able to feel the love or presence of a father and experiencing emotional, intellectual and social problems in their lives. This research aims to determine the effect of fatherlessness on the self-control of adolescents who have lost the role of fathers both psychologically and socially. The method used in this research is a literature review.

Abstract

Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) is a psychiatric condition characterized by excessive, persistent, and uncontrollable worry. It significantly affects patients’ occupational, social, and overall quality of life. We report a 41-year-old female presenting with persistent anxiety for the past three months. She experienced excessive worries about her health, children, financial problems, and work, accompanied by somatic symptoms such as shortness of breath, epigastric pain, tremors, and derealization. Mental status examination revealed a hypotymic mood, restricted affect, and excessive anxious thought content. Based on DSM-5 criteria, the patient was diagnosed with Generalized Anxiety Disorder (F41.1). The patient received combined pharmacotherapy (Sertraline 50 mg, Buspirone 10 mg, Diazepam 5 mg) and psychotherapy including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), relaxation techniques, and psychoeducation. Management of GAD requires a multimodal approach. The combination of pharmacotherapy and psychotherapy provides superior outcomes compared to monotherapy, particularly in symptom reduction, functional improvement, and relapse prevention.

Abstract

Antihistamines are widely used as first-line therapy for allergic skin disorders such as urticaria, dermatitis, and pruritus. Understanding their pharmacological mechanisms, classification, and safety profiles is essential for effective clinical application, particularly for long-term use and during pregnancy. This article is a narrative review based on scientific literature from national and international databases (PubMed, Scopus, SINTA), focusing on pharmacology, classification, clinical indications, contraindications, adverse effects, and safety of antihistamines in pregnancy. Antihistamines act as inverse agonists at histamine receptors, primarily H1 and H2. First-generation agents are lipophilic, crossing the blood–brain barrier and causing sedation, while second-generation antihistamines act selectively on peripheral receptors with fewer central nervous system side effects. During pregnancy, cetirizine and loratadine are recommended due to favorable safety profiles compared to first-generation drugs. In dermatology, antihistamines are effective in managing urticaria, angioedema, lichen simplex chronicus, mastocytosis, and various allergic skin conditions. The selection of antihistamines should be guided by pharmacokinetics, side effect profile, patient-specific conditions, and pregnancy safety. Second-generation antihistamines are generally preferred for long-term management owing to their efficacy and reduced central nervous system risk.

Abstract

Natural ingredients are used as an alternative to the use of synthetic drugs and antibiotics, due to the small side effects caused compared to synthetic drugs. Parijoto fruit (Medinilla speciosa Blume) has many benefits, one of which is as an acne-causing antibacterial with the content of flavonoid compounds, tannins, and saponins. The use of natural ingredients of parijoto fruit in the form of clay mask preparations was chosen because it has advantages and is popular among teenagers compared to other types of masks. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of clay mask preparation with 70% ethanol extract of parijoto fruit in inhibiting the activity of Staphylococus aaureus bacteria using the disc diffusion method. Parijoto fruit is extracted using the maceration method with 70% ethanol solvent to obtain a thick extract, then physical characteristics tests and antibacterial tests are carried out on clay mask preparations. Antibacterial testing of parijoto fruit extract used disc diffusion method with concentrations of 10%, 15%, and 20%. The results of the study showed that 70% ethanol extract clay mask preparations of parijoto fruit had moderate to strong antibacterial effectiveness against S. aureus in formulas F1 (10%), F2 (15%), and F3 (20%) with consecutive inhibition zones of 6.3 mm, 14.1 mm, 15.3 mm. The concentration of F3 (20%) showed the most optimal activity in inhibiting acne-causing S.aureus bacteria.

Abstract

The financial health of an insurance company is a crucial aspect that must be ensured to maintain its ability to manage risks. The insurance industry plays a significant role in economic growth through risk transfer mechanisms. This study aims to analyze the factors influencing the financial health of Prudential Insurance Company during the 2023–2024 period. The method used is factor analysis, a multivariate statistical method designed to identify the underlying structure among financial variables. The analysis results show that two main factors explain 99.2% of the data variance. The first factor is influenced by premium income (X1), claims and benefits paid (X2), and operating expenses (X5). The second factor is influenced by technical reserves (X3) and investment income (X4). These findings highlight the importance of managing premiums, improving operational efficiency, controlling claims, and optimizing assets and investments to maintain the company's financial health. With the right approach, Prudential is expected to maintain its financial stability and competitive position in the insurance industry.

Abstract

Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor (VEGF) is a key mediator in the process of angiogenesis, playing a crucial role in the development and spread of malignant tumors. VEGF consists of several isoforms, primarily VEGF-A, which exert their effects through receptors VEGFR-1, VEGFR-2, and VEGFR-3, as well as co-receptors neuropilin-1 and -2. Activation of VEGF signaling pathways stimulates endothelial cell proliferation, migration, and survival, increases vascular permeability, and facilitates the formation and invasion of tumor-associated blood vessels. VEGF expression is regulated by various factors, including hypoxia via HIF-1α activation, oncogenes such as KRAS and Src, and the suppression of tumor suppressor genes such as p53 and PTEN. Additionally, several growth factors including EGF, PDGF, and IGF contribute to the regulation of VEGF. VEGF signaling also promotes tumor invasion by activating proteolytic enzymes such as MMP-2, MMP-9, and uPA, which degrade the basement membrane. Due to its central role in angiogenesis and tumor invasion, VEGF is a strategic target in anti-angiogenic therapies for various types of cancer. A comprehensive understanding of the structure, function, and regulation of VEGF is essential for the development of more effective molecular therapies.

Abstract

Insurance companies, as providers of financial protection services, must manage risks accurately to avoid misestimating potential losses that could jeopardize financial stability. The magnitude of potential loss incurred by the insurer due to policyholder claims is commonly referred to as claim severity. A widely used risk measurement tool is Value at Risk (VaR), which estimates the maximum potential loss under the assumption of normally distributed data. However, in reality, claim amounts often exhibit extreme behavior very large values that occur with low frequency rendering conventional methods insufficient for accurate risk estimation. To address this, the present study employs Extreme Value Theory (EVT) with the Peak Over Threshold (POT) approach to model the distribution of extreme claim values. The POT method produces a Generalized Pareto Distribution (GPD), which effectively captures the heavy-tailed nature of the data. Extreme values are identified by selecting several candidate thresholds (u) using a mean excess function plot. The most appropriate threshold is then determined through the Kolmogorov–Smirnov test to ensure a good fit with the GPD. This optimal threshold is subsequently used to estimate the Value at Risk based on property insurance claim data from 2010 to 2016.

Abstract

During 2 (two) decades of assisting entrepreneurs in running their businesses, researchers have interacted with hundreds of entrepreneurs, most of whom are Baby Boomers born between 1946-1964 and Generation X born between 1965-1980, requiring a customized approach because these two generations have characteristics, preferences. Where it is precisely this generation that is very behind with digitalization and technology. Their desire for transformation is not supported by their ability to absorb information so quickly, with unfamiliar jargon. Coupled with the ability of digital actors, who also cannot explain analogies that can be accepted by this generation. In the context of writing this journal, the researcher tried an empathetic approach, collecting data with questionnaires from the clients of the researcher, so as to illustrate the unrest. What priorities must be done, in order to break this deadlock, so as to provide a wider perspective to the community, in order to improve the capabilities of both parties, both service providers and recipients of digital services. In this journal, the researcher specializes in Understanding Digital Culture in Baby Boomers and Generation X.
