Abstract

University students face various psychological challenges, one of which is anxiety. Anxiety can interfere with their academic performance and daily activities. Non-pharmacological therapies, such as aromatherapy, have been explored as potential treatments for reducing anxiety. This study employs a literature review approach to examine the impact of aromatherapy on anxiety reduction among university students. Articles were collected using Google Scholar, following the PICO-S framework. The review included studies published in the last five years in Indonesian, focusing on the effects of aromatherapy on anxiety in students. A total of six studies were selected, and all indicated that aromatherapy had a significant effect in reducing anxiety levels in university students. Essential oils such as lavender and peppermint were commonly used and showed positive outcomes. Aromatherapy is an effective non-pharmacological intervention for anxiety, providing an alternative to pharmacological treatments. The results suggest that essential oils can help alleviate the stress and anxiety caused by academic pressures, with lavender and peppermint being particularly effective. Further research is recommended to explore the long-term effects and other essential oils in this context. Aromatherapy has been proven to be an effective therapy for reducing anxiety in university students, offering a natural, side-effect-free alternative to medication.

Abstract

The Family Planning (FP) program aims to control population growth and improve family welfare. Despite the government's subsidized FP services, participation from low-income households in Padang City remains limited. The demand for FP services among low-income households is hindered by various factors, with economic conditions being the primary obstacle. This article employs a literature review approach to analyze the factors influencing the demand for the FP program among low-income households in Padang City. Data were collected from various sources, including journal articles, government reports, and previous research relevant to this topic. The analysis was conducted by organizing the findings into key themes: economic, social, cultural factors, and government policies. Economic factors were identified as the primary barrier to access for low-income households to FP services. Indirect costs such as transportation and limited healthcare facilities were significant obstacles. Additionally, social and cultural factors, including community norms that place value on having many children, further hindered the adoption of the FP program. Although government policies have provided subsidies, they have not been fully effective due to a lack of understanding regarding the variety of contraceptive methods available. The findings suggest that, although various policies have been implemented, the challenges faced by low-income households in Padang City are more complex and require a more holistic approach. To increase participation, more inclusive policies are needed that consider social and cultural factors, along with improving the accessibility of FP services in remote areas.

Abstract

Final-year medical students are often exposed to substantial academic demands, the obligation to complete a thesis, and the transition to professional practice. These conditions may trigger burnout, characterized by physical and psychological exhaustion resulting from chronic stress. Burnout can affect multiple aspects of life, particularly sleep quality, which plays a crucial role in maintaining cognitive function, physical health, and psychological well-being. This study aimed to evaluate the association between burnout and sleep quality among final-year medical students at the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Baiturrahmah. An analytical observational study with a cross-sectional design was conducted. Primary data were collected from 55 respondents using questionnaires. Univariate analysis was presented in frequency distributions, while the chi-square test was employed to examine the association between variables. Among the participants, 33 students (60.0%) were identified as experiencing burnout, while poor sleep quality was reported in 41 students (74.5%). Statistical analysis demonstrated a significant association between burnout and sleep quality (p = 0.032; p < 0.05). Burnout is significantly associated with poor sleep quality among final-year medical students. These findings highlight the need for preventive strategies that integrate stress management and interventions targeting sleep quality.

Abstract

Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a chronic metabolic disorder with an increasing prevalence worldwide and is a major contributor to both microvascular and macrovascular complications. Nutritional status, particularly obesity, is considered to play a key role in the pathogenesis of these complications through mechanisms involving insulin resistance, chronic inflammation, and atherogenic dyslipidemia. However, locally based evidence on the association between nutritional status and T2DM complications remains limited. This research to evaluate the relationship between nutritional status, as measured by body mass index (BMI), and the types of T2DM complications among patients hospitalized at RSI Siti Rahmah Padang. This observational analytic study with a cross-sectional design included 65 T2DM patients with complications admitted between 2019 and 2021. Nutritional status was classified according to the WHO Western Pacific Region criteria, while complications were categorized into macroangiopathy, microangiopathy, and combined forms. Data were analyzed using the Kruskal–Wallis test with a significance level of p<0.05. Most patients were classified as having normal nutritional status (33.8%), followed by class I obesity (26.2%) and overweight (24.6%). Macroangiopathy was the most common complication (50.8%), followed by microangiopathy (46.2%) and combined complications (3.1%). Statistical analysis showed no significant association between nutritional status and the types of complications (p=0.052). BMI-based nutritional status was not significantly associated with the types of T2DM complications. Central adiposity indicators, such as waist circumference, may provide a more accurate measure of risk. Further studies with larger sample sizes are recommended.

Abstract

Arthritis is an inflammation of the joints characterized by pain as the main symptom. The most common types are osteoarthritis (OA), rheumatoid arthritis (RA), and gout arthritis (GA). One way to assess the intensity of pain is by using the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS). This study is a systematic literature review aimed at reviewing the differences in pain intensity among types of arthritis based on previous studies. The results show that pain intensity in RA is classified as mild to moderate (VAS ±3.4), OA is moderate to severe (VAS 4–6), and GA is severe during the acute phase (VAS 7–9). Factors such as age, gender, and psychological conditions also influence pain perception. Understanding this is essential to support appropriate management and improve the quality of life for patients.

Abstract

Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) is a chronic metabolic disease characterized by hyperglycemia due to impaired insulin secretion and action. Uncontrolled blood sugar levels increase the risk of various complications. One complementary intervention that can help lower blood sugar levels is foot massage, a foot massage technique that involves pressure and manipulation to stimulate nerve points, improve blood circulation, activate the parasympathetic nervous system, and provide a relaxing effect. This study aims to determine the effect of foot massage on blood sugar levels in patients with T2DM. This study used a quasi-experimental design with a pre-test post-test control group design. A total of 40 respondents were divided into two groups: 20 respondents in the intervention group who were given foot massage for 10 consecutive days (15 minutes per session), and 20 respondents in the control group who only received health education. Blood sugar levels were measured before and after the intervention. In the intervention group, the average blood sugar level decreased by 14.90 mg/dL with a p value of 0.042 (p < 0.05), indicating a statistically significant decrease. In the control group, the average decrease was 27.15 mg/dL with a p value of 0.056 (p > 0.05), which means it is not significant. These results indicate that foot massage has a real effect in reducing blood sugar levels in patients with Type 2 DM. Foot massage is effectively used as a complementary therapy to help reduce blood sugar levels in patients with Type 2 DM. This therapy can be integrated into health services or done independently at home with the guidance of health workers.

Abstract

The rapid development of information technology and data mining has encouraged the use of machine learning algorithms in various fields, including the financial sector and capital markets. One of the main challenges in stock price prediction is the large number of available variables, not all relevant to the target variable, potentially reducing accuracy and causing overfitting. This study aims to analyze the benefits of applying feature selection in improving the performance of the Random Forest Regression algorithm for stock price prediction. The dataset used in this research consists of ten years of historical stock price data from PT Aneka Tambang Tbk (ANTM). The research was conducted using an experimental approach by developing two models: (1) Random Forest Regression without feature selection and (2) Random Forest Regression with feature selection using the Spearman Correlation method. Model performance was evaluated using Mean Absolute Error (MAE), Mean Squared Error (MSE), Root Mean Square Error (RMSE), Coefficient of Determination (R²), and Mean Absolute Percentage Error (MAPE). The experimental results show that the model with feature selection achieved better performance, with improvements in all evaluation metrics, such as reduced error values (MAE: 26.22; RMSE: 51.82; MAPE: 1.32%) and increased R² (0.9895). These findings confirm that integrating feature selection with Random Forest Regression can improve prediction accuracy, reduce model complexity, and minimize overfitting risk. Therefore, feature selection plays a significant role in enhancing the effectiveness of machine learning models in stock price prediction.
