Abstract

This study aimed to determine police trainees' satisfaction with the Public Safety Basic Recruit Course of the NPTI, and the significant difference in satisfaction between Criminology and non-criminology graduate police trainees. The study applied descriptive correlational research design and interviews using a self-made survey questionnaire for 218 respondents and prepared guided interview questions for five key informants from the graduating police trainees at NCRTC. The data obtained were collated, sorted, summarized, and subjected to statistical treatment methods. The result of the study revealed that police trainees were very satisfied with the Public Safety Basic Recruit Course. They greatly appreciated the quality of training program. However, facilities, equipment, and supplies needed attention and improvement. Interviews disclosed that despite high satisfaction, police trainees faced various challenges that dissatisfied them. These includes frequent shortages of water supplies, overcrowding of dormitories and classrooms, and insufficient faculty members. However, despite these, they remained optimistic that the training management can address it. Additionally, the study found that there was no significant difference in satisfaction between Criminology and non-criminology graduate police trainees. This suggests that both groups had similar levels of satisfaction, and highly appreciative with the training program. To enhance further the satisfaction of police trainees, the NPTI should focus on improving facilities, equipment, and supplies, and address the specific concerns raised by the trainees. Furthermore, an action plan should be developed, outlining realistic, measurable, and time-bound plans, programs, and activities to address the concerns of police trainees.

Abstract

Board courses have been highlighted in all higher education institutions regardless of the program. Most education institutions, if not all, are using board performance as one of their marketing strategies to attract more enrollees, and the customs administration is not an exception. Thus, this study is conducted to determine whether mock board performance is associated with licensure examination performance and if it can predict such. The study utilized thirty-six (36) takers from 2021 – 2023. Kolmogorov-Smirnov Test of 2-independent Sample is used and determined that data are normally distributed with significance values greater than 0.05. On the other hand, Spearman-Rank Correlation is used and determined that Performance in the Mock Board Examination is directly related to the Performance in the Customs Broker Licensure Examination with significance values less than 0.05. On the other hand, simple regression is used and determined that performance in the mock board examination is a determinant for the performance in the licensure examination obtaining probability values of less than 0.05.

Abstract

Economic downturns represent an inevitable challenge that nations and businesses must confront, presenting considerable risks. As a result, it becomes imperative for them to formulate strategies to secure their survival. The world has recently experienced an economic downturn due to a pandemic. COVID-19 has caused a significant economic crisis, leading to job losses and disruptions across various sectors worldwide, including the Philippines. The study utilizes economic indicators to determine patterns, meanings, and subsequent opportunities. Specifically, the study sought to identify relevant economic indicators, find patterns and meaning within each indicator and among indicators, and determine implications from findings. Content analysis was used in the study. It is a qualitative research method to identify and interpret themes, meanings, and patterns. The materials used include eleven Philippine economic indicators, namely, the Philippine Stock Exchange Composite Index, Balance of Trade, Core Inflation Rate, Consumer Spending, Tourist Arrivals, Consumer Confidence, Consumer Credit, Gold Reserves, Foreign Exchange Reserves, and Money Supply M2, and Interest Rate. In conclusion, the study determined that the collective surge in economic activities is positively related to the rise of inflation; increased interest rates potentially mitigated the rise in inflation, and other factors negated the trade deficits and gold reserve fluctuations. The Philippine economy is on the path to recovery, and the unique interrelations of economic indicators imply a more stable environment in the Philippine economy. This signals a green light for investors and an opportunity for policymakers to fine-tune existing initiatives to sustain economic recovery.

Abstract

This study examined the factors that led to road crash incidents in Metro Manila, focusing on human behavior, public awareness and attitudes, road infrastructure and Mdesign, technological interventions, and the implementation of enforcement measures. The findings indicated that human error was the primary cause of road crashes, with speeding, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, distracted driving, failure to adhere to traffic rules, and aggressive driving behaviors identified as significant factors. We also found that road infrastructure and design, public awareness and attitudes, technological interventions, and enforcement measures significantly contribute to road crash incidents. The study further explored the challenges encountered by the Philippine National Police Highway Patrol Group in reducing road crash incidents. The study identified significant challenges in human behavior, public awareness, road infrastructure and design, technological interventions, and enforcement measures and found strong positive relationships between these factors and road crash incidents. We deemed it crucial to address these challenges to impact road safety and reduce accidents significantly. The research highlighted the importance of addressing human behavior, public awareness, road infrastructure and design, technological interventions, and enforcement measures to enhance road safety and reduce road crash incidents in Metro Manila. By focusing on these factors and addressing the identified challenges, the PNP Highway Patrol Group could implement enhanced interventions and promote a safer transportation environment for all road users.

Abstract

This qualitative research study investigates the experiences of Grade 12 STEM students in inquiry-based learning in physics at a private high school in Central Mindanao. The study aims to understand the challenges and benefits of this teaching approach, considering factors such as gender, academic performance, and prior exposure to inquiry-based learning (IBL). The study involved ten students who were selected through purposive sampling. The data were collected through one-on-one interviews. The findings reveal that the most challenging experience students faced in inquiry-based learning are problem-solving, lecture and laboratory activities, and theoretical concepts. Meanwhile, the benefits of IBL include collaborative learning, interactive discussions, and enhanced interest in learning. Most students preferred hands-on learning, while few preferred auditory and visual learning. The study suggests that development in IBL can be made based on students' challenges and learning styles, and the benefits that they can get from the approach in a supportive learning environment.

Abstract

With the rapid change of information environment, this study explored the relevance of the Coast Guard Public Affairs Service (CGPAS) in executing the functions of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG). The research highlights the essential skills of Public Affairs Officers (PAOs) in these areas: Media Relations, Public Information Dissemination, and Social Media Management in promoting a positive image of the PCG. The study utilized survey and interview to gather data from 40 PAOs, majority with the rank of Ensigns, with at least six months PAO experience; 84 Heads of Offices (HOs), who were mostly Captains; and four Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) in Public Affairs, Education, and Training, all from the PCG. Results revealed that PAOs, HOs and SMEs concurred on the crucial role of CGPAS in the execution of PCG functions, particularly in crisis communication and public image promotion. In terms of skill levels of PAOs, the overall scenario-based exam results coincided with the overall HO’s perception. Both were equivalent to Competent, based on the Dreyfus Model of Skill Acquisition. The study also identified challenges faced by PAOs, including role overload from multiple designations and inadequate resources such as office space, trained spokesperson and PA equipment. Recommendations included providing better equipment, comprehensive trainings on crisis communication, news writing and cybersecurity, fostering organizational collaboration, and recruiting specialists. Finally, a Course Instructional Guide for Public Affairs Officers was developed and proposed for adoption and implementation to hone their effectiveness in promoting the PCG’s mission and functions.
