Abstract

This study investigates the effect of Duolingo, an AI-enhanced mobile learning platform, on English language learning outcomes among sixth-grade students at Sekolah Dasar Islam Terpadu (SDIT) Imam Syafii Cendikia, Pekanbaru. Despite the growing integration of digital technologies in Indonesian secondary and higher education, the application of AI-based platforms in Islamic elementary schools remains limited. This research addresses this gap by examining how adaptive, gamified learning tools can enhance linguistic achievement while maintaining alignment with Islamic educational values. A one-group pretest-posttest quasi-experimental design was employed with 30 participants over six weeks. Results indicated significant improvement in English proficiency, with mean scores increasing from 62.47 (SD = 10.42) to 81.63 (SD = 7.91), yielding a large effect size (Cohen's d = 0.88). Questionnaire data revealed highly positive student perceptions (M = 4.36, SD = 0.52) regarding motivation, usability, and attitudes toward AI-based learning. Classroom observations confirmed high engagement levels (M = 4.32) across attention, participation, and collaborative behavior. The findings suggest that AI-driven adaptive learning platforms can effectively personalize instruction, reduce achievement gaps, and foster intrinsic motivation in mixed-ability classrooms when culturally contextualized within faith-based pedagogy. This study contributes empirical evidence supporting the integration of AI-assisted language learning in Indonesian Islamic elementary education.

Abstract

Adolescents in island regions still face limited access to information regarding higher education, scholarship opportunities, and the risks of negative behaviors that may close their future opportunities. This condition underlies the implementation of the Cerdas Memilih Masa Depan program by Universitas Negeri Padang students through the Community Service Program (KKN) at SMA Penabur Berkat, Tuapeijat, Sipora Utara, Mentawai. The activity was conducted on July 6, 2025, involving 25 twelfth-grade students. The methods used were interactive lectures, group discussions, a simple interest–talent simulation, and question–answer sessions supported by PowerPoint presentations and concise modules. The results showed an increase in students’ understanding of strategies for choosing majors and universities, knowledge of scholarship opportunities, and awareness of avoiding risky behaviors such as early marriage, drugs, and online gambling. This program demonstrates that participatory-based socialization is effective in increasing the motivation of Mentawai adolescents and has the potential to be developed as a sustainable strategy in preparing a more visionary young generation.

Abstract

In the digital age, online news platforms significantly shape public opinion, especially during political campaigns. However, little attention has been given to how linguistic and ideological strategies in online journalism construct meanings that influence democratic perception. This study investigates how Kompas, CNN Indonesia, and BBC News construct public opinion during the 2024 Indonesian presidential campaign using Norman Fairclough’s three-dimensional model of Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA). Through qualitative analysis, the study examines textual, discursive, and sociocultural dimensions to reveal how media discourse emphasizes campaign scale, continuity, and spectacle over substantive policy debates. Findings indicate that online news constructs campaigns as performances of mobilization and legitimacy, reinforcing dominant narratives of stability and progress. The study concludes that online news does not merely report politics but actively shapes democratic understanding through linguistic framing and ideological representation.

Abstract

In today's digital era, educational transformation requires strengthening the character that is integrated in technology-based learning. In modern character learning strategies, the eight dimensions of graduate profiles (DPL) are the basis for character education. The 8 DPL include faith and piety to God Almighty, citizenship, critical reasoning, creativity, collaboration, independence, health, and communication. In digital era learning, the integration of 8 DPLs can be achieved through the use of information and communication technology, hybrid learning, project-based learning, collaborative learning, and digital literacy. These methods can be used to shape and train students' character in a contextual, reflective, and sustainable manner. In online activities, students engage in online discussions, create digital works, create innovative presentations, think through blogs, and create digital character portfolios. By utilizing digital media, teachers act as facilitators, role models, and mentors. Teachers help students learn to collaborate across subjects, think critically, and communicate well through digital platforms. In addition, digital citizenship and digital health are also very important to maintain the safety, ethics, and well-being of students in the virtual environment. Schools, families, and digital communities work together to maintain character formation both in the real and virtual worlds. By implementing an 8-DPL-based learning strategy that is adaptive to technology, graduates are expected to become unique individuals, proficient in technology, and ready to compete and contribute in the era of globalization and digitalization.

Abstract

The industrial revolution 4.0 requires the world of education to carry out digital transformation, including in Indonesian learning in universities. Currently, students are required not only to master language materials, but also to have 21st century skills such as Creative Problem Solving (CPS) and effective communication skills. However, conventional learning methods still dominate, not accommodating the needs of these skill development. Therefore, this study raises the urgency of integrating Internet of Things (IoT) technology in the Indonesian module as an innovative strategy to answer these challenges. The main objective of this research is to design and implement an IoT-based Indonesian e-module that is able to encourage active student involvement in communication activities and collaborative problem solving. This E-Module is expected to be an interactive, contextual, and relevant learning alternative to the needs of the times. The method used is Research and Development (RD) with a modified Borg Gall model covering the stages of needs analysis, design, development, validation, testing, and evaluation. The research will involve lecturers and students from the Indonesian Language and Literature Education, Mathematics and non-education study programs at Graha Nusantara Padangsidimpuan University as test subjects to ensure the flexibility and acceptability of the modules. This research is expected to make a real contribution to the development of digital learning models in universities.

Abstract

Cyberbullying in social media has become an increasingly visible issue, particularly on platforms where communication relies on rapid, multimodal expression. However, existing studies tend to focus mainly on verbal hostility, leaving limited attention to how meaning is constructed through the combination of text, emojis, and images. This study aims to describe how these semiotic resources collectively convey bullying intent in TikTok comment sections. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, the data were analyzed through multimodal meaning interpretation and categorized according to types of online aggression. The findings show that sarcasm, mockery, and ridicule were often expressed not through words alone but strengthened through patterned emoji use, exaggerated punctuation, and visual layering. The study concludes that multimodal symbols play a significant role in shaping online bullying practices and should be considered in digital literacy and prevention strategies.

Abstract

This study investigates the effect of Trait and Factor theory-based career counseling services on career decision-making among twelfth-grade students at As Salafi Balun Vocational School. The research addresses the prevalent confusion and uncertainty in career selection due to limited self-understanding and inadequate guidance. Employing a quantitative pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest–posttest model, all 17 students in the target population participated. Data were collected using a validated career decision-making questionnaire and analyzed with descriptive statistics, paired sample t-tests, Wilcoxon Signed-Rank tests, and effect size calculations. The results show a significant improvement in students’ career decision-making abilities, with posttest scores markedly higher than pretest scores and a very large effect size. The findings confirm that structured Trait and Factor-based counseling enhances career maturity and reduces indecision. In conclusion, the intervention is effective in fostering informed career choices, though future studies should consider larger samples and longer follow-up periods.
