Abstract

This study examines the use of digital storytelling to enhance students’ speaking skills in a formal classroom context, addressing the need for more engaging and effective speaking instruction at the tenth grade of MAN 1 Surakarta. Using a classroom action research design consisting of two cycles, data were collected through pre-test, post-test I, and post-test II, as well as observations and questionnaires. Descriptive analysis of test scores showed a steady improvement in students’ average speaking scores, increasing from 65 in the pre-test to 74 in Cycle I and reaching 85 in Cycle II. Qualitative findings revealed that digital storytelling supported speaking development by helping students organize ideas, apply appropriate past tense forms, improve pronunciation through repeated practice, and use vocabulary in meaningful contexts. Students also perceived digital storytelling as an appealing and accessible activity that reduced learning anxiety and increased participation. However, initial difficulties in organizing narratives and limited language control emerged as challenges that required teacher guidance. This study concludes that digital storytelling can serve as a meaningful medium for enhancing speaking skills in formal classroom settings when implemented with proper guidance and integrated with structured speaking activities.

Abstract

Understanding the relationship between English vocabulary learning strategies (VLSs) and vocabulary size (VS) represents a controversial issue among previous studies in the field of applied linguistics. Hence, the current study attempted to identify the (VLSs) and (VS) among Iraqi EFL university students. Besides, it examined the relationship between (VLSs) and (VS) among Iraqi EFL university students. A quantitative correlational research design was employed supported by the (VLSs) questionnaire, and (VS) test. The sample of study is represented by 258 EFL university students in their fourth year who were selected conveniently from the Dept. of English, College of Education for Humanities and College of Education for Women- University of Anbar throughout the first semester of the academic year 2025-2026.  Data was analyzed quantitatively using SPSS to calculate means, standard deviations, t-test, Pearson’s Correlation, and multiple regression analysis. Findings indicated that Iraqi undergraduate students actively use various VLSs, particularly metacognitive, memory, and cognitive strategies, to mitigate their vocabulary knowledge. In addition, the findings revealed that there is a statistically positive and significant relationship between the effective use of the majority of VLSs and students’ VS, which in turn contributes to their overall language proficiency. The study concludes that mastering VLSs is essential for EFL students, particularly in the Iraqi context, were limited exposure to English poses challenges to vocabulary development. By adopting effective strategies, students do not only enlarge their VS but also enhance their communicative competence, academic performance, and lifelong learning skills.

Abstract

Children who think creatively have four indicators, namely originality or the ability to produce new and unique ideas, fluency or the ability to produce many ideas quickly, elaborative or the ability to explain ideas in detail, and flexibility or the ability to think from various perspectives. With project-based learning (PjBL), children can practice their creative thinking skills through learning activities that are tailored to the material taught. This study aims to evaluate students' creative thinking skills through the application of PjBL, especially in science subjects in grade IV B students at SDN Tanjung Duren Selatan 01 Pagi. This study uses a descriptive qualitative method by collecting data through observation, interview, and documentation techniques. The results of the study show that the ability to think creatively through the application of project-based learning in Social Natural Sciences material is not good enough, it can be seen that the fluency indicator has a score of 77.4% and can be categorized as good, then in the flexibility indicator has a score of 19.3%, including the category of less, in the original indicator has a score of 61.2%, it can be categorized as sufficient because there are 3 groups that are able to answer teachers' questions about consumption examples with different answers. Then in the detailing category, having a score of 58.1% can be categorized as sufficient. From these results, it can be seen that there are 4 indicators of creative thinking but only 1 indicator is good, namely smoothness, then 2 other indicators are quite original and detailed, and there is 1 indicator that is still lacking, namely flexibility.

Abstract

The increasing use of artificial intelligence (AI) in language education has drawn significant attention to its potential to support students’ writing development. This study investigates the impact of Gemini AI–assisted instruction on students’ paragraph writing ability using a one-shot case study experimental design. Gemini AI was integrated into the instructional process for undergraduate students enrolled in a paragraph writing course. Following the intervention, 28 students completed a post-test in the form of a paragraph writing task. Their writing was evaluated using an analytical scoring rubric focusing on coherence, organization, vocabulary use, grammatical accuracy, and unity. The findings indicate that Gemini AI provided effective scaffolding during the writing process, as students demonstrated satisfactory to strong performance, particularly in organization, idea development, and coherence. Although the one-shot design limits causal interpretation due to the absence of a pre-test and control group, the results offer initial empirical evidence of the pedagogical potential of Gemini AI in paragraph writing instruction. The study therefore recommends further research using more rigorous experimental designs and highlights the importance of integrating AI tools in a careful and pedagogically informed manner.

Abstract

While digital storybooks are increasingly popular in language classrooms, there is still a lack of consensus on which specific instructional methods yield the most effective learning outcomes. This systematic literature review aims to identify instructional methods used in digital storybook-based learning and examine the learning outcomes associated with each approach. Following the PRISMA 2020 guidelines, this review systematically searched five specific academic databases (Google Scholar, ERIC, ScienceDirect, SAGE Journals, and Taylor Francis) covering studies published between 2021 and 2026. Twelve studies met the inclusion criteria for qualitative analysis. The findings reveal three main instructional approaches: task- and project-based learning, multimodal and technology-enhanced learning, and interaction- and support-based learning. These approaches are consistently associated with positive cognitive and affective outcomes. Overall, this review demonstrates that digital storybooks are most effective when integrated with appropriate, student-centered, and interactive pedagogical strategies rather than used as stand-alone reading tools.

Abstract

The bakery industry faces challenges in optimizing production due to limited raw materials and multiple product types. This study aims to analyze a system of linear equations representing the relationship between product quantities and raw material usage using the Gaussian elimination method. A case study involving bread, sweet bread, and cake production was conducted based on the availability of flour, sugar, and eggs. The system was formulated and solved using Gaussian elimination to obtain its general solution. The results show that the system has infinitely many solutions, indicating multiple feasible production combinations that fully utilize available resources. One practical solution identified is the production of 20 units of bread, 30 units of sweet bread, and 20 units of cake. This combination ensures optimal use of raw materials without waste. The findings demonstrate that Gaussian elimination is an effective method for supporting production planning and decision-making. Overall, linear algebra provides a reliable approach for optimizing resource allocation in the bakery industry.

Abstract

Low motivation in learning English poses a major challenge in Indonesian elementary schools due to its non-native status and insufficient environmental support. This pre-experimental study examined the effectiveness of reward and punishment strategies to improve fifth-grade students’ English learning motivation. Employing a one-group pretest-posttest design, 33 purposively sampled students from Class 5-D at MI Perguruan Mu’allimat completed a 10-item, 4-point Likert motivation questionnaire adapted from Purmama et al. (2019) with acceptable reliability (Cronbach’s α = 0.823). SPSS analysis showed a significant increase from pre-test (M = 24.91, SD = 3.70, moderate) to post-test (M = 33.52, SD = 3.25, high), confirmed by paired t-test (t = -11.197, df = 32, p 0.001). The strategy effectively boosted motivation through immediate feedback, recognition, and consequences, addressing intrinsic and extrinsic needs via competence, autonomy, and relatedness per Self-Determination Theory. Teachers can apply age-appropriate rewards and constructive punishments to foster engaging, disciplined classrooms that sustain interest in English.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the psychological impact of traumatic loss experienced by the main character, Jess Aarons, in the novel. The research employs a literary psychology approach by applying Elisabeth Kübler-Ross’s five stages of grief, namely denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance. The primary data are derived from the narrative and dialogues in the novel that depict Jess’s emotional experiences following the death of his close friend, Leslie Burke. The findings indicate that Jess undergoes all five stages of grief. These stages reflect the emotional dynamics of a child in coping with profound loss. Furthermore, the study reveals that Jess is able to endure and achieve psychological recovery through the process of acceptance, while also utilizing imagination as a means of self-healing. This research contributes to a deeper understanding of childhood trauma in literary works and demonstrates how fiction can function both as a reflection of psychological experiences and as a medium for emotional healing among young readers.

Abstract

This study aims to improve the learning outcomes of Grade VII students at SMP Negeri 03 Baras on pantun (traditional Malay poetry) material through the implementation of the make a match learning model. The study was motivated by the low cognitive absorption among students, attributed to several factors, including inadequate instructional content delivery and the use of inappropriate learning models. This classroom action research (CAR) was conducted over two cycles. Cycle I was implemented on May 17, 2023, while Cycle II was carried out on June 7, 2023. The pre-cycle results indicated that the classical learning mastery rate reached only 38.10%. In Cycle I, an improvement was observed, with the classical learning mastery rate rising to 50.00%. In Cycle II, student learning outcomes further improved to 78.57%. These findings demonstrate that the make a match learning model, when applied to Indonesian Language instruction—particularly in the context of pantun material—is effective in enhancing student learning outcomes, enabling students to complete tasks more readily through collaborative group work.

Abstract

This study examines the instructional management of English teaching across non-English departments in Indonesian higher education. It aims to explore instructional strategies, implementation practices, and challenges across diverse academic disciplines, including nursing, pharmacy, psychology, computer science, and international trade. A qualitative case study was conducted at Universitas YPIB over a three-month period. Data were collected through classroom observations, semi-structured interviews, and document analysis involving six lecturers and thirty students selected through purposive sampling. The findings reveal that effective instructional management requires adaptive teaching strategies, the integration of English for Specific Purposes (ESP), and alignment with disciplinary needs. However, several challenges persist, including varying levels of students’ English proficiency, limited institutional support, and the absence of a standardized curriculum. This study highlights the importance of flexible instructional planning and cross-disciplinary collaboration to enhance teaching effectiveness. It contributes to the development of instructional management practices in higher education, particularly in the Indonesian context. Furthermore, this study offers a cross-disciplinary perspective by integrating instructional management and ESP within a single institutional context.
