Abstract

The research was conducted because of students face difficult to remember Simple Past Tense formula. The experimental research was conducted at the tenth grade at SMAN 01 Bangkinang kota. This research aims to know the effect of song towards Students’ Matery on Simple Past. The research methodology uses a Quasi-experimental design. The sample of this research was class X MIPA 4 as the experimental class and X IPS 2 as the control class. The experimental class consisted of 33 students and the control class consisted of 36 students. This research uses cluster random sampling which selects classes randomly from MIPA and IPS Class. The instrument used in this research was a test. Data analysis used SPSS 25 test of Hypotesis. Based on the results of the study, the average score of students in the experimental class was 71.97 and 55.69 in the control class. Data analysis showed a significance of 0.000 > 0.05, it means that Ha is accepted. The key is that there is an effect of Song towards Students’ Mastery on Simple Past Tense.

Abstract

There are some problems in this research first, the students’ lack of vocabulary makes the students difficult to comprehend the written form. This problem also produces another problem. Students do not even know the meaning of the title from a certain text. The next problem is they do not have a good strategy in reading and they were not motivated in learning English.This research used quantitative as the approach and experimental as the design of the research. Researcher chose the Pretest Posttest non-equivalent control Design. The population from this research is 117 students that are the total of the students in the 8th grade in SMPN 2 Kapur IX and the sample of this research will be determined by using purposive sampling which was VIII.A and VIII.D.Based on the finding of the research, it has proven that the using picture to predict information toward students’ test result in reading descriptive text gave significant difference on students’ test result. The mean of post-test of experimental class was 72 and control class was 65.

Abstract

This study was motivated by the number of students who get low scores, especially in writing at 11th grade student of MA MualiminMuhammadiyahBangkinang. RAFT strategy is an effective strategy for overcoming this problem. Based on the problem, this research aims to find out whether there is an effect on using RAFT strategies towards the students writing skill in online class, in academic year 2019/2020. This is a quasi-experimental research. This research involves 46 students of two classes, class XI IPA Putri as the experimental class consists of 23 students and class XI IPA Putra as the control class consists of 23 students. The experimental class using RAFT strategies and control class using Teacher’s method. The data were obtained by using Pre-test and Post-test. Pre-test was given to both classes before the treatment and Post-test of both classes were analyzed by using t-test analysis. Based on the data analysis of the research showed that the average students post-test in experimental class were 72, and control class has average students post-test were 65. Based on the data analysis of variance it can be seen that the significant (2-tailed) of 0.000 which is smaller than 0.05. It can be concluded that there is the effect of RAFT strategies toward students’ writing skill at the eleventh grade of MA MualiminMuhammadiyahBangkinang

Abstract

 Technology, Entertainment, Design, and Education (TED-Ed) is a free online website which provides several authentic video materials covering educational topics and current issues for public consumers, particularly EFL teachers and students. Listening skill is an important part in second or foreign language learning because the students acquire new spoken language and target vocabularies used in daily communications. Hence, TED-ED can be applied as authentic listening materials in EFL classrooms to enhance student’s listening skill. This present study aims to find whether there is a significant difference in listening skills between students who were taught by TED-ED videos and those who were taught by other kinds of videos. The population of the study was 60 eleventh grade students from one of the private schools in Surabaya. This quantitative research collected the data from a listening comprehension test and a questionnaire. The researcher used an independent sample T-test to analyse the data in IBM SPSS 25 application. The result found that t-test score was 2.176 higher than critical value for 58 degrees of freedom (df), the mean of the experimental group (TED-ED) was 71.30 and the control group (other kinds of videos) was 66.20. Therefore, it proved that there was a significantly difference in listening skills between students who were taught by TED-ED videos and those who were taught by other kinds of videos. This study also got positive perception toward TED-ED utilized in listening activities from students.

Abstract

This article examines education issues in a documentary movie entitled “Waiting for Superman.” To do this research, the author applied the literary research method to find words, phrases, sentences, and scenes that explore the education problems in America. Meanwhile, the sociology of literature was employed to understand the social background and context of a particular story. The research found four issues in the movie: public education spending, students’ literacy level, conflicting regulations, and teacher unions. This research has contributed to American Studies by understanding the fundamental problem of American people in education. It has also taught educational stakeholders how to maintain a high-quality learning activity.

Abstract

The objective of this research is to investigate if Gallery Walk Technique significantly affects students’ speaking skill. The design used in this research was experimental research design. The population of this research was the students of grade X of SMA Pelita Bulu Cina. The total number of the population was 30 students. Cluster sampling technique was used in drawing the sample. So, 15 students were selected into the experimental group (X-I) and 15 students were selected into control group (X-II). Speaking test was used as the instrument of this research. The data were analysed by using Mann Whitney U-test formula. It was found that the smaller U-observed value was 1. It was smaller than U-table value which was 64 at p = 0,05 (1 64). Thus, Ha was accepted and Ho was successfully rejected. Thus, Gallery Walk Technique significantly affects students’ speaking skill.

Abstract

The objective of this research is to investigate how the implementation of the cooperative learning method on students’ performance in the learning process and to find out its impact on students’ oral proficiency. In this study, the writer used a descriptive qualitative method. The data were collected by observation and doing pre-test and post-test. The research samples are thirty seventh-grade students in SMP Tarsisius 1 Jakarta. After applying the method, the result showed that cooperative learning could help students work together in groups and solve problems or tasks effectively. During the discussion, students are more engaged with others, and the interactions are more vivid. They have slight awareness to achieve the goals, especially in group work. In this condition, the cooperation among the intelligent and weak students has shown. So they do not only focus on the individual goal but the group goals. Besides, cooperative learning also supports enhancing students’ oral performance. The indication can be seen in pre-test and post-test scores. The students speaking scores were increased after the implementation of cooperative learning.

Abstract

English teachers’ beliefs had an important role in their decision-making about how grammar should be taught. Approaches to foreign grammar pedagogy were informed not only by the point of view of grammar, but also by beliefs about the importance of grammar, how it could be learned, and how it could be taught. The aims of teaching English grammar in this research were to know the factors that could influence English foreign language teachers’ beliefs in English grammar teaching and their roles in the practice of teaching English grammar. A mixed-method that involved qualitative and quantitative methods in this research was used to describe any insight of English teachers in teaching English grammar. The data were collected based on a close-ended interview and a questionnaire administered to 27 English teachers in 3 junior high schools and 3 senior high schools in North Sumatra, Indonesia. The results showed that: (1) the reasons for the importance of grammar teaching in speaking skills, (2) the way how grammar should be taught in speaking skills, (3) the techniques to teach English grammar, (4) the challenges of teaching grammar in speaking skills, and (5) the procedures to teach English grammar. This research recommended English teachers reflect on the professional and pedagogical contexts of English grammar teaching to improve the quality of English teachers’ teaching behaviors.

Abstract

Research on the vitality of  Acehnese language is very important among the dominance use of Bahasa Indonesia among Acehnese.  Even, UNESCO recently has paid more attention to the world's languages and make efforts to revitalize potentially extinct languages. Acehnese as one of the heritage languages in Aceh Province, Indonesia also faces risk of extinction due to the shirnk of its domain usage. The purpose of this research is to investigate language vitality among Acehnese female parents in Lhokseumawe city. Qualitative approach was carried out in this study by conducting semi-structured observations, interviews, and strengthened with questionnares delivered to the participants by adopting  questionaire model proposed by Cohn (2013). The result of the study shows that vitality of Acehnese language among parents is still strong as a means of communication among certain people and in certain public domains such as in traditional market and around their neigbourhood.  Parents also still use Acehnese in family domain with their spouse, and their neighbourhood, however, the vitality of Acehese among parents becomes problematic because most of the parents do not longer use Acehnese when communicating to their children at home on their daily basis.

Abstract

Students have problems in reading class. Google Classroom can be use as media in the classroom This classroom action research show that students in STBA Persada Bunda have improved their critical reading strategies. It can be seen from the result of their test for every cylce. Their mark is better than before applying google classroom. Google classroom improved teaching and learning process at the Fourth Semester Students’ of School of Foreign Languages. They are brave enough to ask question, give  comment, got the conclusion about the task given by themselves, and share idea among their friend. The factors the that influence the changes reading comprehension by google classroom, the students knew about topic, main idea, detail which found in the reading text
