Abstract

This study aims to describe the implementation of character education at Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Luqman Al Hakim Slawi and Budi Mulia Muhammadiyah Elementary School Adiwerna. Character education is a crucial aspect in shaping students' personality and moral values from an early age. This research employs a qualitative approach with a case study method. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation. The research subjects include school principals, teachers, students, and parents. The findings reveal that the implementation of character education in both institutions is carried out through three main pathways: intraclass activities, co-curricular, and extracurricular programs. The character values developed include religiosity, discipline, responsibility, honesty, care, and cooperation. At MI Luqman Al Hakim Slawi, an integrative approach is applied by internalizing character values within Integrated Islamic-based learning. Meanwhile, at Budi Mulia Muhammadiyah Elementary School Adiwerna, the approach focuses on strengthening school culture and flagship programs rooted in Muhammadiyah values. Supporting factors in implementation include the schools’ vision and mission, educators’ commitment, and parental involvement. Challenges encountered involve students' diverse backgrounds and limited time for implementing character programs. This study recommends the importance of continuous collaboration among schools, parents, and communities to strengthen holistic character education.

Abstract

This study aims to identify the influence of soft skills (about critical thinking) on the work readiness of accounting graduates of the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Putra Indonesia YPTK Padang. In this study, soft skills about critical thinking function as an independent variable (X), while work readiness is the dependent variable (Y). The population studied included all students of the accounting study program, class of 2021, totaling 150 students. The sampling method used was purposive sampling, so that the sample in this study consisted of 100 respondents. Data were collected through questionnaires and documentation, and data analysis was carried out using descriptive percentage analysis, instrument testing, and hypothesis testing. Instrument testing includes validity testing and reliability testing, while hypothesis testing includes simple linear regression testing, coefficient of determination (R²) testing, and t-testing. The results of the simple regression analysis show the equation Y = 36.924 + 0.143X, which means that if the soft skill value is zero, then the work readiness will reach 0.143. From the results of data processing and analysis that have been carried out, it can be concluded that soft skills have a positive influence of 0.143 on the work readiness of accounting graduates of the Faculty of Economics and Business, Putra Indonesia University YPTK Padang.

Abstract

The increasing prevalence of social media use among students presents promising opportunities for the integration of digital platforms into language learning environments. Among these platforms, Instagram stands out due to its popularity and visual appeal. However, despite its widespread use in students’ daily lives, its potential as a pedagogical tool particularly for enhancing writing skills such as descriptive text remains largely untapped. This study was therefore conducted to investigate the effectiveness of Instagram as an online medium for teaching descriptive writing. Employing a quantitative research design, the study involved 34 tenth-grade students from SMA Negeri 8 Jambi, who were equally divided into an experimental group and a control group. A pre-test and post-test were administered to assess students’ writing performance before and after the treatment. The data revealed a significant improvement in the experimental group, with the average score increasing from 36.76 to 53.67. Furthermore, statistical analysis using an independent samples t-test confirmed a meaningful difference between the performance of the experimental and control groups. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that Instagram serves as an effective digital tool for enhancing students’ ability to write descriptive texts, demonstrating its value as a modern and engaging resource in English language instruction.

Abstract

Questioning strategies are a significant way for EFL teachers to encourage student’s participation and interaction in learning a language, particularly at the secondary level. This research examined the types and applications of questioning strategies used by a seventh-grade English teacher in an EFL classroom at MTs NU Mranggen in Central Java, Indonesia. A qualitative case study methodology gathered video-recorded lessons and teacher interviews, and analysed thematically. The study outcomes revealed that teachers used four types of strategies—prompting (14), probing (7), repetition (3) and redirecting (1)—with prompting dominant across lesson stages. The prompting strategy was often employed because it increases students' thought processes and improves critical thinking. The teacher employed these strategies at the lesson's opening, main, and closing activities. Educators and researchers can use the insights to improve their approaches and establish a dynamic learning environment.

Abstract

Nonformal education is a strategic instrument for strengthening social resilience and community independence in the face of global challenges. However, its role is often marginalised and not yet optimally integrated into formal education. This research uses a qualitative approach with a literature study method, analysing scientific articles, educational policies, and best practices related to the role of nonformal education in social empowerment. The analysis was conducted by identifying the main themes: social resilience, individual independence, and non-formal-formal education synergy. The results show that nonformal education contributes significantly to improving life skills, strengthening social networks, and empowering the local economy. Community-based programs can reach marginalised groups, promote social inclusion, and strengthen community participation in development. Nonformal education should be viewed as a strategic pillar of community development. Policy synergy and multi-stakeholder collaboration are needed to create an inclusive and sustainable learning ecosystem.

Abstract

Inequality of access to education in Indonesia is still a major problem, especially for low-income people (MBR). The high dropout rate in this group reflects structural and economic barriers that hinder the sustainability of education. The government responded through education subsidies such as the Smart Indonesia Program (PIP), School Operational Assistance (BOS), and scholarships for poor families. This study evaluates the effectiveness of the program in reducing dropout rates and increasing graduation through  the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach to literature and data for the past five years. The results show that the subsidy has reached around 3.8 million recipients, reduced the dropout rate by 42%, and increased graduation by 68%, with a budget of Rp4.2 trillion. Despite showing moderate efficiency, challenges remain, such as uneven distribution of funds and limited aid. The conclusion of this study is that education subsidies contribute significantly to increasing access and sustainability of education for MBR, but improvements are needed in governance and data collection.

Abstract

Mastering grammar is essential for English learners, particularly the accurate placement of modifiers, which is often overlooked in academic writing. This research investigates the types of misplaced modifiers found in the teaching practice blog posts written by SEA Teacher participants. Misplaced modifiers can disrupt clarity and change the intended meaning of a sentence, yet they are often overlooked in academic writing instruction. Referring to Fowler and Aaron’s (2012) classification, this research aims to identify and analyze seven types of misplaced modifiers. Using a descriptive qualitative method, the researcher analyzed 30 narrative blog posts by SEA Teacher participants. The data were collected by identifying sentences that contained misplaced modifiers, then categorizing them based on their types. The analysis reveals that the most frequently occurring type is misplaced phrases and clauses (36.4%), followed by incorrect adverb placement (21.2%). These two types are dominant because they involve longer, more complex sentence structures where the intended meaning is often lost when modifiers are placed too far from the words they describe. Less frequent errors include squinting modifiers, limiting modifiers, and the incorrect order of adjectives. These findings indicate the need for more explicit grammar instruction to help pre-service teachers improve their syntactic accuracy in academic and reflective writing.
