Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan mendeskripsikan bentuk-bentuk kekerasan Rezim Orde Baru dalam empat cerpen Indonesia Modern dan menjelaskan implikasinya terhadap pembelajaran bahasa dan sastra di SMA. Penelitian ini mengacu pada bentuk-bentuk kekerasan Johan Galtung tentang  kekerasan struktural dan personal. Dengan metode deskriptif kualitatif dan pendekatan sosiologi sastra, hasil analisis menemukan bahwa dalam keempat cerpen Indonesia modern terdapat bentuk kekerasan struktural berupa penyalahgunaan kekuasaan yang dilakukan oleh pemegang kekuasaan tertinggi. Pada kekerasan personal terdapat pola kekerasan berupa penyiksaan, penindasan, pembunuhan, dll. Dari keempat cerpen tersebut hanya satu yang tidak mengandung kekerasan personal yang terpusat pada fisiologi. Dalam konteks pembelajaran di SMA, keempat cerpen Indonesia modern tersebut dapat dijadikan bahan ajar materi cerpen sekaligus alternatif pengajaran tentang sejarah Indonesia.

Abstract

Fokus kajian penelitian ini adalah citra perempuan di lingkungan domestik dan publik dalam masyarakat Jepang dalam haiku karya Sugita Hisajo. Perempuan sebagai ibu dalam haiku Sugita Hisajo dicitrakan sebagai manusia yang sabar, bersahabat dan mendidik, penuh kasih sayang dan berharap akan kebahagiaan anak, rela berkorban, dan perhatian. Sedangkan sebagai istri, perempuan Jepang dicitrakan sebagai manusia yang harus siap mengalami kekecewaan, menderita, dan penurut, serta berani dan mandiri. Perempuan di lingkungan publik dicitrakan peduli terhadap dinamika politik bangsa serta mempunyai spirit perjuangan meraih kebebasan.

Abstract

Great literature is achieved through high imagination which needs big inspiration. Nature can be the power to create such great creation. Most of Melville's works are his works on his wanderings in the sea. Moby Dick is the famous one which tells about American whaling, that was popular in the 1840's. In his novel of Moby Dick, Melville reveals an extraordinary one which are full with emotive words and poetic language. His closeness with nature is reflected on Moby Dick. The sea gives him a power to reach universal idea for human being. As we find many philosophical commentary in this novel which conceives the truth for us. From the description and the explanation in this discussion, I can conclude that nature is the inspiration source in Herman Melville's Moby Dick.

Abstract

Terdapat lima pandangan terhadap pemakaian preposisi daripada: sebagai preposisi 'perbandingan', redundansi, bentuk tegun, fenomena lingual wajar, dan sebagai wujud loyalitas bawahan kepada atasan. Dalam dinamikanya preposisi daripada berkemungkinan mempunyai sepuluh makna: 'penanda perbandingan', 'penanda bahan', 'penanda asal lokasi', 'milik', 'terhadap/tentang', 'penanda eksklusivitas', 'terdiri atas', 'di antara', 'penanda objektif', dan 'penanda agentif'. Dalam perilaku sintaksisnya, daripada dapat bertindak ke dalam enam peran: penanda FPr, konjungsi antarklausa, atribut FN, aksis FPr, preposisi-verbal, dan atribut FV.

Abstract

Sebagian besar nomina yang digunakan dalam wacana humor cerita wayang Jawa Pos meliputi baik nomina konvensional maupun inkonvensional. Subnomina persona, fauna, barang, lokasi, tempo, media, penyakit, ide, dan abstraksi aktivitas selalu berkondisi bisosiatif, dengan memakai secara bersama-sama unsur konvensional dan inkonvensional. Hanya onomatopelah yang tidak memakai keduanya, tetapi hanya memakai unsur inkonvensional. Struktur wacana cerita wayang Jawa Pos tidak secara teratur terbangun dari pengantar, pancingan, penyentil. Masih ada empat pola struktur wacana yang lain, yaitu pancingan—penyentil, pengantar—penyentil, penyentil—pemancing, dan penyentil saja.

Abstract

Focus of the research study is sentence form (active-passive, personal pronoun, propositional position, nominalization) on SBY speech as the research data. By linguistic approach of Fowler and van Dijk critics, the data analysis achieves the following findings: (1) Active sentence is chosen by SBY to tell a success, while passive sentence is used to express a failure. (2) Clausal proposition which tells a success is expressed by positioning at the front, and one which expresses a failure is faded at behind. (3) Pronoun kita is chosen to explain the negative and to avoid critics; the words saya and pemerintah are used to tell the positive, the pronouns mereka, siapa pun, or direct reference of collective one are applied to give warning or threat. (4) Nominalization is used by SBY to hide failure of conducting development program, so his image as the successful leader is spotless. Generally, it can be concluded that SBY makes use of sentence form as media of politic of self image as a successful leader and as a mask to cover failure and to avoid critics.

Abstract

This research is entitled Connotative meaning of verbal and visual sign in “What Can’t Milk Do?” Advertisement. This study is conducted with the aims to analysed the connotative meaning of verbal and visual signs contain in “What Can’t Milk Do?” advertisement. Verbal and visual communication tools that are used by human to interact, whether through messages, sounds, pictures, and gestures. The data were taken from the YouTube platform. The data were collected by observation method. The analysis was done by the descriptive qualitative method. The study started by analysing verbal and visual signs which is based on the theory of semiotic by Saussure (1893). Then, the analysis of the connotative meaning of the verbal and visual signs was done by using the theory of meaning proposed by Barthes (1977). In addition, the study of colors was done using the approach of color term submitted by Wierzbicka (1996). The connotative meaning from this advertisement want to remind the viewers that milk is not only just an ordinary beverage but it can turn you into a morning person and get you through tough tasks, while also forming the basis for everything from health-conscious food or to decadent desserts and from the advertisement we can found verbal and non-verbal sign and the meaning of an advertisement.

Abstract

Defense mechanism is a psychological occurrence in human mind to reduce excessive stress. The study analyses defense mechanism and the exposition of it in the characters of C.N. Adichie’s Americanah. The study is conducted to understand the process of defense mechanism through the related topics. This study uses descriptive qualitative research design to analyze the characters and explain the topics. The study uses psychoanalytical criticism approach which then combined with psychoanalysis and defense mechanism theory to analyze and understand defense mechanism. The researcher uses psychoanalysis and defense mechanism theory to analyze defense mechanism used and the process of it. The exposition of defense mechanism is then made according to the analysis. The study indicates the use of 5 defense mechanism in Ifemelu, which are Repression, Denial, Projection, Displacement, and Sublimation. It also indicates 2 defense mechanism Obinze has used, Displacement and Reaction Formation. This study also indicates that narrative are used to expose defense mechanism.

Abstract

This study of The Analysis of Motivation on Howl Jenkins Pendragon and Sophie Hatter in Diana Wynne Jones Howl’s Moving Castle discusses about Sophie Hatter and Howl Jenkins Pendragon’s characters and motivation. The aim of the study is to explain the characters and motivation to keep moving forward even though they have many problems in their life. The researcher uses a psychological approach of Maslow's hierarchy of needs, this is a motivational theory in psychology comprising a five-tier model of human needs, to analyze the motivation of Howl and Sophie. The researcher also applies qualitative descriptive analysis as the method to analyze the characters and motivation of Howl Jenkins Pendragon and Sophie Hatter. From this study, the researcher finds Howl and Sophie characters and their motivation in life. The motivation of Howl Jenkins Pendragon are breaking the curse, finding his true love, taking care of people that he must help, and learning how to be a better version of him. The motivation of Sophie are Finding a way how to be a better version of herself, breaking the curse, taking care of everyone who needs it and helping Howl to face his problem. All of them include the analysis how much their motivation relate to Maslow Hierarchy Theory.

Abstract

The research deals with the archetype of Amazing Man in Pararaton. The theory of archetype, Pararaton, amazing and a qualitative research design are applied in this research. It is found out that Ken Angrok is regarded as Amazing Man. The archetype of Amazing Man as seen in a Pararaton is that firstly, Ken Angrok is the son of god Brahma; secondly, Ken Angrok is the reincarnation of god Visnu; thirdly, Ken Angrok shines twice; fourthly, from his crown of Head, the bats can comes out; fifthly, he can kill the powerful Tunggul Ametung; sixthly, he marries Ken Dedes; seventhly, god Shiva chooses him as the king in Java, and finally, Ken Angrok becomes the king of Singasari entitled Sri Rajasa Batara Sang Amurwabumi.
