Indonesian Journal of Engagement, Community Services, Empowerment and Development is a peer-refereed open-access National journal which has been established for the dissemination of Community Services in the field of Engagement, Empowerment and Development in the City. Starting from 2021, IJECSED would be published Three times in a year. All submitted manuscripts will be initially reviewed by editors and are then evaluated by a minimum of Two Reviewers through the double-blind review process. This is to ensure the quality of the published manuscripts in the journal. Indonesian Journal of Engagement, Community Services, Empowerment and Development aims to disseminate the results of conceptual thinking and ideas, especially the results of educational research and technology to be realized in the community, including (1) Fields of science, applied, social, economic, cultural, health, ICT development, and administrative services, (2) Training and improvement in the results of educational, agricultural, information and communication, and religious technology (3) Teaching and empowering communities and communities of students, youth, youth and community organizations on an ongoing basis.

This community service project aims to analyze the strategic role of Village-Owned Enterprises (BUMDes) in addressing production and marketing challenges faced by micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) producing melinjo crackers, using a case study of Bu Hj Eha’s Melinjo Cracker Business in Taktakan Subdistrict. MSMEs producing melinjo crackers in this region face various challenges, including fluctuations in the supply and quality of raw materials, limited access to efficient production technology, suboptimal hygiene standards, as well as challenges related to market reach, branding, packaging, and the utilization of digital marketing. This community service project employed a qualitative approach using a case study design, involving in-depth interviews with MSME owners, BUMDes administrators, and workers, as well as field observations. The findings indicate that BUMDes has significant potential to play a role in facilitating collective raw material procurement, supporting the provision and management of shared production equipment, organizing training, and assisting in the development of collective village branding and packaging. Furthermore, BUMDes can serve as key facilitators in the adoption of digital marketing technologies and the opening of new market access. However, the role of BUMDes is currently still in the early stages of development, requiring capacity building for management, more structured programs, and more synergistic collaboration. Key recommendations include strengthening BUMDes capacity, developing well-planned support programs for MSMEs, establishing a collective village brand, and utilizing digital platforms. This community service project concludes that BUMDes is a crucial strategic instrument in empowering melinjo emping MSMEs and strengthening the village economic ecosystem in Taktakan Subdistrict

Waste management has become an environmental issue that continues to develop in urban areas, including Buaran Village, Serpong District, South Tangerang City. The high volume of household waste, low public awareness in sorting waste, and limited community-based waste management are the main obstacles in realizing a sustainable environment. This Community Service Program (PKM) aims to increase public awareness through social marketing strategies regarding sustainable waste management. The methods used include field observations, socialization, environmental education, waste sorting training, waste bank campaigns, and community assistance. The results of the activity showed an increase in public understanding of the importance of managing organic and inorganic waste, increased community participation in waste bank activities, and the emergence of collective awareness to maintain environmental cleanliness. Social marketing strategies through educational and participatory approaches are considered effective in changing community behavior towards sustainable waste management

This Community Service Program (PkM) aimed to enhance the capacity of the community in Mandalasari Village, Kaduhejo District, Pandeglang Regency, by promoting the creative economy through the utilization of plastic bottle waste as Hydrobokas planting media. The primary issues identified were the low utilization of plastic waste and the limited public knowledge regarding waste management with economic value. The program employed the Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) approach, consisting of socialization, observation, training, demonstrations, hands-on practice, mentoring, and evaluation. The activities actively involved lecturers, university students, village officials, farmers, and local community members throughout all stages of implementation. The results demonstrated significant improvements in community knowledge regarding waste management based on the 3R principles (reduce, reuse, and recycle), enhanced participants' skills in independently producing Hydrobokas planting media, and increased public awareness of transforming plastic bottle waste into products with practical and economic value. In addition to contributing to environmental conservation through plastic waste reduction, the program created opportunities for developing creative economy-based microenterprises, strengthened household food security through home gardening, and fostered collaboration among universities, village governments, and local communities. Therefore, the Hydrobokas-based community empowerment model has strong potential to be replicated in other regions as a sustainable strategy for plastic waste management while supporting the implementation of a circular economy and sustainable rural development.

This Community Service Program (PkM) aimed to implement the development of contextual-based Nahwu teaching materials to improve Arabic syntax comprehension among students at MA Firdaus Pangalengan. The program was conducted over one month, from January 2026, involving Arabic language teachers and students as the primary participants. The implementation adopted a participatory mentoring approach consisting of needs assessment, development of contextual teaching materials, teacher training, classroom implementation, monitoring, and evaluation. The contextual teaching materials were designed by integrating Nahwu concepts with authentic examples and daily-life situations familiar to students, enabling them to understand grammatical concepts more meaningfully. The results demonstrated that the program successfully enhanced teachers' competencies in developing and utilizing innovative teaching materials while improving students' understanding of Arabic syntactic structures. Classroom observations indicated increased student participation, more active discussions, and better analytical skills in identifying sentence components and grammatical functions. Teachers also expressed positive responses toward the practicality and effectiveness of the developed materials in facilitating student-centered learning. Overall, the program strengthened collaboration between higher education institutions and Islamic schools in improving Arabic language instruction through contextual learning innovation. The developed teaching materials are expected to become sustainable learning resources and serve as a model for implementing contextual Arabic grammar instruction in other Islamic secondary schools.

This community service program aimed to enhance positive student behavior through a seminar on drug abuse prevention, bullying prevention, and juvenile delinquency awareness at SMP Negeri 6 Cilegon. The activity was conducted at the school mosque and involved eighth-grade students using a participatory educational approach. The implementation consisted of preparation, interactive lectures, discussions, question-and-answer sessions, and reflections delivered collaboratively by a lecturer and the Community Development Unit (Binmas) Officer of Pulomerak Police Sector. The seminar focused on increasing students’ understanding of the dangers of drug abuse, the negative impacts of bullying, legal and social consequences of juvenile delinquency, and the importance of developing responsible behavior. The results indicated that students actively participated throughout the program and demonstrated improved knowledge, awareness, and commitment to maintaining positive behavior in both school and social environments. Participants showed greater confidence in identifying risky behaviors, preventing bullying, and rejecting negative peer influences. The collaboration between higher education institutions, schools, and law enforcement contributed significantly to the effectiveness of the educational intervention by integrating academic perspectives with practical legal knowledge. Overall, the program successfully fostered students’ character development and promoted a safer, more inclusive, and supportive school environment. This activity may serve as a sustainable model for preventive character education programs in secondary schools through collaborative partnerships among educational institutions and community stakeholders.

This Community Service Program (CSP) aimed to implement a refugia system to support the conservation of natural enemies and the biological control of plant pests in soybean, peanut, and lettuce cultivation at the Experimental Farm of the Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Wijaya Kusuma Surabaya (FP-UWKS), Banjarbendo, Sidoarjo. The program was conducted for one month in January 2026 using a participatory approach that integrated socialization, field demonstrations, hands-on practice, mentoring, monitoring, and evaluation. The activities focused on introducing the ecological functions of refugia plants as habitats and food sources for predators and parasitoids, thereby strengthening Integrated Pest Management (IPM) practices. The implementation involved planting flowering refugia species around crop plots, identifying natural enemies, and observing changes in pest populations and ecosystem conditions. The results indicated increased participant knowledge and practical skills regarding environmentally friendly pest management strategies. The refugia plants established successfully and attracted beneficial insects, including lady beetles, spiders, praying mantises, dragonflies, and parasitoids, which contributed to the natural suppression of plant pests. Participants demonstrated greater awareness of biodiversity conservation and reduced dependence on synthetic pesticides. Furthermore, the Experimental Farm has become a demonstration site for sustainable agricultural practices, supporting education, research, and community outreach. The program highlights that habitat management through refugia is a practical, low-cost, and environmentally sustainable innovation that can be replicated in other agricultural areas.

The learning assistance program is a form of community service aimed at improving the quality of learning while fostering students' creativity and meaningful learning experiences in elementary schools. This program was implemented at SD Negeri Pabuaran 04, Serang Regency, Indonesia, involving fifth-grade students in learning assistance and ecoprint activities, as well as fourth-, fifth-, and sixth-grade students in an anti-bullying awareness program. The program employed a structured learning assistance approach through interactive lectures, demonstrations, discussions, question-and-answer sessions, hands-on practice, and the implementation of Problem-Based Learning (PBL), Project-Based Learning (PjBL), and Teams Games Tournament (TGT) learning models. The activities included learning assistance in Physical Education, Natural and Social Sciences, Pancasila Education, Mathematics, ecoprint practice, and anti-bullying socialization. The results showed that students actively participated and demonstrated high enthusiasm throughout the activities. The application of innovative learning models successfully enhanced students' learning motivation, creativity, critical thinking skills, collaboration skills, and meaningful learning experiences. Furthermore, the anti-bullying program strengthened students' character by increasing their awareness of the importance of creating a safe, comfortable, and respectful school environment. Overall, the collaboration between Universitas Bina Bangsa students through the Community Service Program (Kuliah Kerja Mahasiswa KKM) and the school made a positive contribution to improving the quality of classroom learning and supporting the holistic development of elementary school students.

This community service activity aimed to strengthen writing skills through book-writing training for the community in Serang City as an effort to develop a sustainable literacy culture. The activity was motivated by the need to improve the community’s ability to transform experiences, knowledge, and ideas into structured written works. The program was conducted in January 2026 for one day using a participatory training approach consisting of material presentation, discussion, writing practice, mentoring, and evaluation. The training covered idea development, topic and title selection, book outlining, chapter development, writing techniques, and initial manuscript editing. The activity was supported by CV. AA. Rizky, a book publisher and IKAPI member, which contributed practical perspectives on manuscript preparation and book development. The results indicated that participants demonstrated improved understanding of the stages of book writing and greater ability to develop ideas into themes, titles, outlines, and initial manuscript drafts. The activity also increased participants’ motivation to write and document their knowledge and experiences. Thus, book-writing training can serve as a practical strategy for strengthening writing competence and fostering a productive literacy culture among communities in Serang City

Adolescent development is strongly influenced by peer relationships, school environments, and social interactions that may encourage either positive or negative behavior. This community service activity aimed to strengthen students’ character and courage to reject negative environmental influences through an educational seminar entitled “Dare to Be Different in the Current” at SMPN 02 Pontang Serang. The activity was conducted on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, involving ninth-grade students. The implementation method included preparation, coordination with the school, educational material delivery, interactive discussions, question-and-answer sessions, character reinforcement, and evaluation of participant responses. Two speakers, Jagat Satria Abdurohkhman and Andriyan Syah, S.Pd., delivered materials focusing on character development, responsible decision-making, self-confidence, positive peer relationships, and strategies for responding to negative invitations. The activity received positive support from the school principal and active participation from students. The results indicated that the seminar provided students with additional understanding regarding the importance of maintaining positive behavior, selecting supportive social environments, and having the courage to make responsible decisions. The activity is expected to serve as an initial effort to strengthen character education and prevent negative adolescent behavior through continuous collaboration between schools, teachers, students, and community partners. Health awareness is an important component in encouraging communities to conduct early detection and adopt preventive health behaviors. This community service activity aimed to increase public awareness of the importance of basic health checks and health education in Kampung Alun-Alun RT 06/RW 02, Warunggunung Village, Warunggunung District, Lebak Regency. The activity used a participatory and educational approach involving community members in registration, basic health examinations, health education, consultation, and follow-up recommendations. The examinations included blood pressure, body weight, height, body mass index, and blood glucose when available. The results showed that direct health services at the community level provided residents with opportunities to recognize their health conditions and understand the importance of regular monitoring. Health education strengthened participants’ understanding of healthy lifestyles, balanced nutrition, physical activity, risk-factor control, and the importance of further examination when necessary. The integration of health checks and education also encouraged more active community participation in preventive health efforts. The activity demonstrates that community-based health services can serve as an effective medium for promoting early detection, increasing health awareness, and encouraging preventive behaviors. Sustainable implementation through periodic health checks, continuous education, and collaboration with local health facilities is expected to strengthen community participation in maintaining health.
