Abstract

Mathematics plays an important role in training critical and logical thinking skills. One topic that is often applied in everyday life is the circumference and area of a circle. However, many students have difficulty understanding and solving word problems related to this topic. This research aims to identify the types of errors made by students in solving circumference and area of circle problems and analyze the causal factors. This research uses a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. The research subjects were 16 class IX students at MTs Al-Habibi who were selected using a purposive sampling technique. Data was collected through a test containing five story questions with varying levels of difficulty and analyzed based on four categories of errors, namely concepts, facts, principles, and procedural. The research results showed that the majority of students had difficulty understanding the questions, identifying problems, and applying concepts correctly. As many as 68.75% of students scored below the KKM, indicating low understanding. Factors that cause errors include limited understanding of basic concepts, low learning motivation, and less interactive teaching methods. More effective learning strategies are needed, such as interactive methods, gradual practice, and strengthening concepts before complex questions. With the right strategy, students' understanding of the circumference and area of circles can increase, so they are better prepared to solve story problems.

Abstract

Indonesia is a country with a high level of vulnerability to geological disasters such as earthquakes, landslides, and volcanic eruptions due to its position in the meeting zone of three active tectonic plates. This study aims to map the spatial pattern of geological disasters Local Indicators of Spatial Association (LISA) and analyze the effect of spatial variables on the number of victims using a spatial regression analysis approach. Data were obtained from BNPB and analyzed using the OLS method and three spatial regression models, namely the Spatial Autoregressive Model (SAR), Spatial Error Model (SEM), and General Spatial Model (GSM). The LISA results show that several provinces are included in the high-high and spatial outlier categories that are prone to disasters. Regression analysis shows that for earthquakes, the SEM model is the best model with a pseudo-R² of 0.888 and the lowest AIC. For landslides, the GSM model gives the best results (pseudo-R² = 0.7860 and AIC = 78.389), while for volcanic eruptions, the spatial model does not show significant spatial effects, so the OLS model is sufficient to represent the relationship between variables. The variable number of events proved to have the most significant influence on the number of victims across all types of disasters. This finding emphasizes the importance of a spatial approach in risk mapping and geological disaster mitigation planning in Indonesia.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the level of understanding of the concept of conservation of numbers in students of PAUD age (six years) and 2nd grade elementary school (nine years) based on Jean Piaget's cognitive development theory. A descriptive qualitative approach was used with direct observation techniques and semi-structured interviews, as well as a number conservation test using marbles, coins, and round paper of different sizes. The subjects of the study consisted of four children: two six-year-old children at RA Salafiyah and two nine year-old children at SDN 5 Nagrikaler, Purwakarta Regency. The results showed that six-year-old children had understood the principle of conservation of numbers and realized that the number of objects remained the same even though the arrangement and size changed according to Piaget's concrete operational stages. In contrast, nine-year-old students had not fully mastered the concept, they were still influenced by the visual perception of size and arrangement. Factors of learning motivation, additional experiences (tutoring and family support), and individual interests played an important role in this difference in understanding. The findings confirm that chronological age is not the only determinant of cognitive development, so that mathematics learning strategies need to be adjusted to the characteristics of students' motivation and learning experiences.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the low value of students in Mathematics, especially addition and subtraction materials. The monotonous learning process, such as lecture methods, repeated practice questions, and the use of simple media such as stones and sticks, are some of the causes. This study aims to describe the media design and produce valid, practical and effective learning media. educational games are used as learning media. This type of research is Research and Development (RnD) with the ADDIE model which includes five stages: Analyze, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. The first stage of this model is analysis, at this stage the needs of educators and students are analyzed, the characteristics of students are analyzed, and the material is analyzed. The second stage is design, at this stage the CP, teaching modules, instruments and products are designed. Next is the development stage, at this stage it produces a product. Then the implementation stage is product testing, finally the evaluation stage, at this stage it analyzes the research data. The validation results by 3 validators obtained results with Aiken's V criteria, namely the average Valid category. The practicality of the media is high, with a percentage of positive responses from educators of 92% and students of 93% with the Practical category. The effectiveness of the media can be seen from the increase in student learning outcomes through pre-tests and post-tests, with an average N-Gain score of 81.4% with the Effective category. Thus, this learning media is categorized as valid, practical, and effective in improving the understanding of numeracy of grade I students of UPT SDN 07 Sitiung.

Abstract

This study aims to compare the effectiveness of the Discovery Learning (DL) and Problem-Based Learning (PBL) models on the mathematics learning outcomes of seventh-grade junior high school students, as measured by midterm exam scores. The background of this study is based on the low international achievement of Indonesian students in mathematics and the dominance of conventional approaches in the learning process. The method used is a quantitative comparative approach with a quasi-experimental design. The sample consists of two classes, each receiving either the DL or PBL model. Data were collected through documentation of MTE scores and analyzed using normality, homogeneity, and independent two-sample t-tests. The analysis results showed that both data sets were normally distributed and homogeneous. The t-test yielded a significance value of 0.823 (p > 0.05), indicating no significant difference in mathematics learning outcomes between students taught using the DL model and those taught using the PBL model. The effect size calculation (Cohen’s d = 0.18) indicated a very small effect. These findings indicate that the effectiveness of the two models is relatively balanced, and learning success is more influenced by non-instructional factors such as learning style and student motivation. Therefore, teachers are advised to choose a learning model that suits the characteristics of their students. This study suggests further research with a broader scope and a mixed-methods approach to gain a more comprehensive understanding. These results are important as a reference for selecting contextual learning strategies.

Abstract

Purchasing power parity, as measured by adjusted real per capita expenditure, is one of the essential indicators for evaluating the level of welfare within a community in a region. Several economic factors can influence the increase in purchasing power parity in an area, including local government spending, investment, and economic growth. By considering the current achievement of purchasing power parity and the relationship between the three economic factors with purchasing power parity, this study aims to determine the effect of local government spending, investment, and economic growth on the purchasing power parity in North Halmahera Regency for the period 2011-2024. To analyze these relationships, we used Multiple Linear Regression along with the Cochrane-Orcutt method to overcome the problem of autocorrelation assumption in the residuals. After conducting two iterations of the Cochrane-Orcutt method to develop a model with non-autocorrelation, the results show that the investment variable has a positive and significant effect on purchasing power parity. In contrast, local government spending and economic growth exhibit a negative and significant effect on purchasing power parity in North Halmahera Regency.

Abstract

The purpose of this preliminary study is to analyze the mathematical critical thinking abilities of seventh-grade students at SMP Negeri 1 Sukadiri. This study uses descriptive qualitative research. The analysis techniques used are interviews, observation, and documentation. The subjects in this preliminary study are mathematics teachers and seventh-grade students at SMP Negeri 1 Sukadiri. The results of the observation show that mathematics learning at SMP Negeri 1 Sukadiri is student-centered, where students tend to be active but hesitant in answering questions given by the teacher. The results of the interviews indicate that students struggle to understand and solve problems related to the material and basic concepts they have not mastered, which is compounded by a lack of HOTS practice questions and low interest in learning.  The results of documentation show that students' test scores on statistics material are below the KKTP and have the lowest average score compared to other materials in the second semester. . Additionally, students in class VII.7 have the lowest average score among other seventh-grade classes on this material. The conclusion of this preliminary study is that students' mathematical critical thinking skills on statistics material do not meet expectations.
