Abstract

This study aims to analyze students' science process skills on motion material. The results of the pre-research indicate that students' KPS on each indicator is in the low category. In improving science process skills, it is necessary to be supported by an appropriate learning model, one of which is the structured inquiry model. The structured inquiry learning model can invite students to be active during the learning process. This type of research is applied with a pre-experimental method and applies a one-group pre-test and post-test design. The study was conducted in one of Surabaya's Public Junior High Schools with a sample of 31 students in class VII-G. Data on science process skills on motion material were obtained using pre-test and post-test question instruments. The results of the study that have been conducted show that students' science process skills experienced a significant increase after the implementation of the structured inquiry learning model, which is indicated by the average value of the pre-test post-test N-gain of 0.66 with a moderate category. Each indicator of science process skills also experienced an increase that can be seen from the average N-gain of all indicators of 0.67 with a moderate category. Therefore, the application of a structured inquiry learning model to motion material is effective in improving the science process skills of junior high school students.

Abstract

The science conceptual understanding of Indonesian students is still relatively low, partly due to learning practices that are less actively engaging and contextual. This study aims to analyze the effect of the Guided inquiry learning model with the Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) approach on students' conceptual understanding of Ecology and Biodiversity. This research is a quantitative study with a quasi-experimental design using a nonequivalent control group design. The sample consisted of two classes: VII-F as the experimental class (Guided inquiry learning with CTL) and VII-G as the control class (Guided inquiry only) at SMP Negeri 61 Surabaya. Data were collected through conceptual understanding tests (pretest-posttest), learning implementation observation sheets, and student response questionnaires. The results showed a significant difference in the improvement of conceptual understanding between the experimental class (N-gain 0.59) and the control class (N-gain 0.47), with a Sig. (2-tailed) value of 0.024 < 0.05. The effect size calculation yielded a Cohen's d value of 0.628, which falls into the large category, indicating high effectiveness. The implementation of learning in both classes was very well executed, and student responses to the learning in the experimental class were very positive (86.41%). It is concluded that the Guided inquiry learning model with the CTL approach is effective and significant in improving students' conceptual understanding compared to Guided inquiry learning alone.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the improvement in junior high school students' science literacy, the implementation of learning, and student responses after applying the guided inquiry learning model. The type of research used a pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The subjects in this study were 25 students in class VII-D at Bahrul Ulum Junior High School in Surabaya. The science literacy indicators used were competency indicators in the aspects of explaining phenomena scientifically, compiling and evaluating designs for scientific investigation, interpreting data and evidence critically, and researching and using scientific information for decision-making and action. The results of this study indicate that there is a significant difference between the students' pretest and posttest scores after the guided inquiry learning model was implemented, with a t-test significance value of Sig. < 0.05. The N-Gain analysis results show an increase in junior high school students' science literacy of 0.59, which is categorized as moderate. Based on these data, it can be concluded that the application of the guided inquiry learning model is effective in improving junior high school students' science literacy on the subject of water pollution.

Abstract

Student Worksheets (LKPD) are printed teaching materials in the form of sheets of paper containing tasks to be completed by students. This study aims to develop LKPD based on Problem Based Learning (PBL), determine the conceptual and procedural feasibility of LKPD, determine the assessment of chemistry teachers and student responses to the developed LKPD. The development was carried out using the Lee & Owens model. The instruments used were teacher interview sheets and student needs analysis questionnaires. The resulting product was then validated by a team of media experts and material experts, and assessed by teachers. Next, the LKPD product was tested with one-on-one trials and small group trials. The data analysis techniques used were qualitative data analysis and quantitative data analysis. The results of the study showed that the developed LKPD based on Problem Based Learning (PBL) was declared conceptually and procedurally feasible.  Media expert validation obtained a score of 4.57 (Very Appropriate) and material expert validation with a score of 4.4 (Very Appropriate) and teacher assessment with a score of 4.57 (Very Appropriate) and student responses with one-on-one trials and small group trials obtained a percentage of 84,9% and 84,8% with the criteria of "Very Good". Based on the development and research, it can be concluded that Problem Based Learning (PBL) Based Student Worksheets are valid and suitable for use in chemistry learning.

Abstract

This study aims to improve the learning outcomes of seventh-grade students at MTsN 3 Blitar through the application of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model in the Solar System subject. This study is a Classroom Action Research (CAR) conducted in two cycles. Each cycle consists of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection stages. The subjects of this study were 36 students. Data collection techniques were carried out through learning outcome tests and observation of student activities during the learning process. The results showed a significant increase in learning outcomes from cycle I to cycle II. In cycle I, the total score of the students was 2,970 with a class average score of 82.5. Learning completeness reached 78%, with 28 students declared complete and 8 students incomplete. In cycle II, there was an increase in the total score to 3,420 and the class average score increased to 95.0. Learning completeness reached 95%, with 34 students completing the learning and only 2 not completing it. In addition, student learning activities such as discussing, asking questions, and expressing opinions also showed an increase in cycle II. Thus, the application of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model has been proven to improve student learning outcomes in Solar System material. This model encourages students to think critically, work together in groups, and actively engage in the process of contextual problem solving.

Abstract

The process of making Penglatan Village's signature dodol has been widely understood from an economic and social perspective, while the scientific potential inherent in the manufacturing process has not been extensively studied. This study aims to explore the scientific concepts contained in the process of making Penglatan Village's signature dodol as a supporting context for science education. This research is a descriptive qualitative study through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing using an ethnoscience approach. The research subjects were producers of Penglatan dodol. Data collection was conducted using observation and interview techniques. Source triangulation, technique triangulation, and member checking were used to improve data credibility by testing data validity. The results showed that the stages of stirring dodol, melting brown sugar, using old coconut milk, additives, and the dodol cooking process represent scientific concepts, such as heat transfer, the role of fat in heat conduction and starch gelatinization, additives, motion systems, and exothermic reactions. These findings are relevant to junior high school science learning in the context of changes in substance properties, additives, heat and combustion reactions, motion and force, mixture separation, and environmental pollution. The results of this study contribute to strengthening the integration of local contexts through scientific exploration in the making of dodol, a specialty of Penglatan Village, as a support for learner development.

Abstract

Mathematics is one of the subjects that plays an important role in education. Math anxiety is a feeling of fear or anxiety that arises when individuals encounter mathematics. Learning outcomes are indicators of learning achievement that show students' ability to understand the material being studied. Digital learning utilizes technology as a means of supporting the delivery of material and assessment of learning outcomes. The Quizizz application is one example of learning implementation in line with developments in educational technology. This study was conducted to analyze the extent of the relationship between mathematics learning anxiety and student learning outcomes in digital-based learning. The method used was quantitative with a sample of students in class X-5 at SMA Negeri 1 Sukoharjo. The results showed a correlation coefficient of -0.623 with a strong relationship category and a significance value of 0.000 < 0.05. These results indicate a significant negative relationship between mathematics learning anxiety and Quizizz-based learning outcomes.

Abstract

This research aims to describe students' creative thinking processes in solving controversial mathematical problems. The research approach used is a qualitative approach. The research subjects were 25 students taken from class X TKJ and TG SMK PU Malang. The instruments used were tests, interviews and documentation. The research instrument consisted of 1 controversial mathematical problem on geometry material prepared by the researcher. The results of this research show that the 4 stages of students' creative thinking process when solving controversial mathematical problems include: preparation stage, illumination stage, incubation stage and verification stage. In the preparation stage the subject is able to solve problems by discussing with his classmates, then in the incubation stage the subject involves considering and developing a project by letting creative ideas flow and exchanging ideas about the various directions the project will take. And at the illumination stage the subject also begins to emerge new inspirations/ideas for solving the problem. Next, at this Verification stage, the subject checks again, which can be done by interpreting the answers obtained. Overall, this research shows that class X students at SMK PU Malang have great potential in thinking creatively when solving controversial mathematical geometry problems. To optimize this potential, a supportive learning approach is needed, including providing space for students to develop their creative ideas, facilitating collaboration and discussion between students, as well as paying attention to factors that can hinder students' creative thinking processes. ABSTRAK Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan proses berpikir kreatif siswa dalam menyelesaikan permasalahan kontroversial matematis. Pendekatan penelitian yang digunakan adalah pendekatan kualitatif. Subjek penelitian berjumlah 25 siswa yang terambil dari kelas X TKJ dan TG SMK PU Malang. Instrumen yang digunakan adalah tes, wawancara dan dokumentasi, instrumen penelitian terdiri dari 1 permasalahan kontroversial matematis pada materi geometri yang disusun peneliti. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa 4 tahapan proses berpikir kreatif siswa ketika menyelesaikan permasalahan kontroversial matematis meliputi : tahap persiapan, tahap iluminasi, tahap inkubasi dan tahap verifikasi. Pada tahap persiapan subjek mampu memecahkan masalah dengan berdiskusi teman sebangkunya, kemudian pada tahap inkubasi subjek melibatkan pertimbangan dan pengembangan sebuah proyek dengan membiarkan ide-ide kreatif mengalir dan bertukar pikiran tentang berbagai arah yang akan diambil oleh proyek tersebut. Dan pada tahap  iluminasi subjek juga mulai muncul inspirasi/gagasan baru dalam menyelesaikan masalah tersebut. Kemudian pada tahap iluminasi ini subjek juga mulai muncul inspirasi/gagasan baru dalam menyelesaikan masalah tersebut. Selanjutnya pada tahap Verifikasi ini, subjek memeriksa kembali di antaranya dapat dilakukan dengan cara menginterpretasikan jawaban yang diperoleh. Secara keseluruhan, penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa siswa kelas X SMK PU Malang memiliki potensi besar dalam berpikir kreatif saat memecahkan masalah kontroversial matematis geometri. Untuk mengoptimalkan potensi ini, diperlukan pendekatan pembelajaran yang mendukung, termasuk pemberian ruang bagi siswa untuk mengembangkan ide-ide kreatif mereka, fasilitasi kolaborasi dan diskusi antar siswa, serta perhatian terhadap faktor-faktor yang dapat menghambat proses berpikir kreatif siswa.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Mathematical problem-solving ability in Two-Variable Linear Equation System (TVLES) word problems remains a major challenge for many students because it requires both Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) and the resilience to cope with learning difficulties. This study aimed to describe students' mathematical problem-solving ability in solving TVLES word problems from the perspective of mathematical resilience. The study employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive-exploratory design. The participants consisted of three ninth-grade students from SMP Negeri 3 Bolo, who were purposively selected to represent high, moderate, and low levels of mathematical resilience. Data were collected through a mathematical problem-solving test, a mathematical resilience questionnaire, semi-structured interviews, and documentation. The data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model, which includes data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing, supported by source and technique triangulation. The findings revealed that students with high mathematical resilience were able to complete problem-solving stages more comprehensively than those with moderate and low resilience. The primary difficulties were found in Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS), particularly at the analyzing, evaluating, and creating levels of the revised Bloom's Taxonomy. This study concludes that mathematical resilience contributes positively to students' mathematical problem-solving ability. Furthermore, the study provides empirical evidence regarding the relationship between mathematical resilience and problem-solving stages based on the revised Bloom's Taxonomy, which may serve as a foundation for designing more adaptive and meaningful mathematics learning strategies. ABSTRAK Kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematika pada soal cerita Sistem Persamaan Linear Dua Variabel (SPLDV) masih menjadi tantangan bagi banyak siswa karena menuntut penguasaan kemampuan berpikir tingkat tinggi serta ketahanan dalam menghadapi kesulitan belajar. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematika siswa dalam menyelesaikan soal cerita SPLDV ditinjau dari resiliensi matematis. Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan desain deskriptif-eksploratif. Subjek penelitian terdiri atas tiga siswa kelas IX SMP Negeri 3 Bolo yang dipilih secara purposive untuk mewakili kategori resiliensi matematis tinggi, sedang, dan rendah. Data dikumpulkan melalui tes pemecahan masalah, angket resiliensi matematis, wawancara semi-structured, dan dokumentasi, kemudian dianalisis menggunakan model Miles dan Huberman yang meliputi reduksi data, penyajian data, serta penarikan kesimpulan melalui triangulasi sumber dan teknik. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa siswa dengan resiliensi matematis tinggi mampu menyelesaikan tahapan pemecahan masalah secara lebih lengkap dibandingkan siswa dengan resiliensi sedang dan rendah. Hambatan utama ditemukan pada kemampuan berpikir tingkat tinggi, terutama pada aspek menganalisis, mengevaluasi, dan mencipta sesuai Taksonomi Bloom revisi. Penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa resiliensi matematis berperan dalam mendukung kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematika, sehingga penguatan aspek afektif dan kognitif perlu diintegrasikan dalam pembelajaran matematika untuk meningkatkan kemampuan siswa dalam menyelesaikan soal cerita SPLDV secara lebih efektif dan bermakna.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Local culture embodies various mathematical representations that emerge from community practices; however, its potential as a learning context remains underutilized, particularly within Minangkabau culture. This study explores the mathematical concepts embedded in Lemang, a traditional food, and Saluang, a traditional musical instrument, through the perspective of ethnomathematics, while examining the relationships among the concepts represented by these two cultural artifacts. A qualitative approach employing an ethnographic method was adopted, with data collected through observation, documentation, and literature review. The collected data were analyzed inductively through data reduction, data display, identification of mathematical concepts, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that both Lemang and Saluang embody mathematical concepts related to geometry, measurement, and proportional reasoning, each reflecting distinctive characteristics according to its cultural function. A comparative analysis demonstrates that mathematical representations are manifested not only in the physical forms of these cultural objects but also in the cultural practices associated with them, providing a more comprehensive understanding of the relationship between local culture and mathematical concepts. This study broadens the perspective of ethnomathematics by offering an integrated analysis of two different cultural representations and provides a conceptual foundation for developing culturally responsive mathematics learning while supporting the preservation of local cultural heritage through education. ABSTRAK Budaya lokal menyimpan berbagai representasi matematika yang lahir dari praktik kehidupan masyarakat, namun potensi tersebut masih relatif jarang dimanfaatkan sebagai konteks pembelajaran, terutama pada budaya Minangkabau. Kajian ini mengeksplorasi konsep-konsep matematika yang terdapat pada Lemang sebagai makanan tradisional dan Saluang sebagai alat musik tradisional melalui perspektif ethnomathematics sekaligus menelaah keterhubungan konsep yang muncul pada kedua objek budaya tersebut. Penelitian dilaksanakan menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode etnografi melalui observasi, dokumentasi, dan studi literatur. Data yang diperoleh dianalisis secara induktif melalui proses reduksi, penyajian, identifikasi konsep matematika, serta penarikan kesimpulan. Hasil penelitian memperlihatkan bahwa Lemang dan Saluang merepresentasikan konsep geometri, pengukuran, dan perbandingan dengan karakteristik yang berbeda sesuai fungsi budaya masing-masing. Analisis komparatif terhadap kedua objek menunjukkan bahwa representasi matematika tidak hanya tampak pada bentuk fisik, tetapi juga pada aktivitas budaya yang melatarbelakanginya sehingga memberikan gambaran yang lebih utuh mengenai hubungan antara budaya lokal dan konsep matematika. Kajian ini memperluas perspektif ethnomathematics melalui analisis terpadu terhadap dua representasi budaya yang berbeda serta menyediakan dasar konseptual bagi pengembangan pembelajaran matematika berbasis budaya lokal yang lebih kontekstual, sekaligus mendukung pelestarian warisan budaya melalui proses pendidikan.
