Abstract

The use of digital technology in education has driven a shift from traditional paper-based portfolios to electronic portfolios (E-portfolios) that are more efficient, flexible, and have a wider reach. This study aims to explore students' perceptions of the use of E-portfolios in Language Material Development (LMD) learning. This research was conducted qualitatively by involving five eighth-semester students from the English Education Department at Universitas Muhammadiyah Makassar, using a descriptive qualitative method Data were obtained through semi-structured interviews, employing purposive sampling techniques. The results of the study indicate that there is a positive perception of the use of E-portfolios, including ease of access, organization of materials and tasks, and the ability to store large amounts of data. Additionally, the available features help students create a more attractive, easy-to-understand E-portfolio display that is also secure and protects privacy. The electronic devices owned by the student further support and facilitate the process of uploading assignments into E-portfolios. This research is expected to provide a deeper understanding of the effectiveness and impact of using E-portfolios at Universitas Muhammadiyah Makassar.

Abstract

This research focuses on efforts to improve students' listening skills through the application of note-taking practice strategies. The focus of this study is to explore how note-taking strategies can help students in understanding and organizing information from listening material delivered orally. The purpose of this study is to find out how effective the note-taking strategy is in improving students' listening skills. This research was carried out using the Classroom Action Research (PTK) approach which was carried out in two cycles. The instrument used in this study is a listening test designed to measure students' listening ability before and after the implementation of note-taking strategies. The results showed a significant improvement in students' listening skills after the implementation of the note-taking strategy. In the first cycle, the average listening score of students increased from 45.00% to 56.00%, while in the second cycle the average score increased further to 66.97%. These findings indicate that note-taking strategies are effective in improving students' ability to absorb and understand information conveyed orally. Thus, this study concludes that note-taking strategies are an effective method to improve students' listening skills and can be implemented in United Kingdom language learning to help students develop better listening skills.

Abstract

Chemistry learning is learning that is closely related to practicum activities, so that in chemistry learning is very capable of facilitating the development of student knowledge and skills. Students' skills in collaborating in practicum activities, creativity and critical thinking skills in solving problems that are still relatively low must get serious attention in improving student skills in facing the challenges of the 21st century. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the efficacy of using the discovery learning paradigm in practicum learning to enhance 4C abilities. A total of 26 students from the Jambi University Chemistry Education Study Program who enrolled in the R-002 class inorganic chemistry practicum during the 2022–2023 academic year served as the sample for this study. This study employs an experimental design using a pretest-posttest model for a single group. A questionnaire was utilized in this study to gather information on the 4C competencies of the students. The paired samples t test was then used to evaluate the collected data. According to the study's findings, practical learning significantly improves 4C skills using a discovery learning paradigm.

Abstract

The primary objective of this study is to find out the Interlingual and Intralingual Problems faced by students in translating Short Fiction. Content analysis was used for both data collection. This study used tests and interviews to determine what errors and problems during the translation process which were then adjusted for applying relevant learning methods. The research sample consisted of 30 students majoring in English Literature. The analysis showed that most of the students needed further understanding of the use of grammar and the meaning of English words. This is due to the influence of their first language and lack of competence in the rules or structures of English. This research highlights the importance of more effective educational strategies and in-depth approaches to improve students' translation skills in English. The implications of these findings for learning methodologies are comprehensively discussed, along with suggestions for future research.

Abstract

This study aimed to find out (1) How the teacher perceives the scaffolding strategy. (2) how the teacher applies scaffolding in teaching English. This study used a qualitative descriptive method and collected data through observation and interviews. The observation process was carried out in two meetings in class VIII.6 SMPN 7 Makassar and the interview process was conducted with a teacher. The findings showed that (1) In the interview process, the teacher argues that scaffolding strategies are beneficial in the learning process, namely to build confidence, identify student knowledge, and create student independence. This is very important to achieve learning goals and increase the best potential of each student. (2) The English teacher in class VIII.6 SMPN 7 Makassar uses scaffolding strategy methods in teaching. Researchers found six types of scaffolding strategies used by the teacher in teaching, namely modeling, questioning, giving feedback, breaking down tasks, direct assistance, and providing learning resources. Teacher explain the material to be learned in a structured and systematic manner that can be easily understood by students.

Abstract

This study sought to ascertain how well students' 4C skills were improved by utilizing gamification-based interactive evaluation materials in conjunction with a flipped classroom and project-based learning approach. Pre-experimental research with a quantitative approach and one sample class was the methodology employed in this study. Students enrolled in the Jambi University Chemistry Education Study Program's course on chemistry learning curriculum creation served as the study's samples. A questionnaire was used to collect data on the 4C competencies of the pupils. The normalcy of the variation in the students' 4C skills outcomes was examined. The data from the sample class is normally distributed and parametric tests can be performed if the significance value is higher than 0.05. In this study, one sample t-test was employed for hypothesis testing. To find out how well gamification-based interactive evaluation materials combined with a flipped classroom and project-based learning approach improve 4C abilities, hypothesis testing was done. The study's conclusion is that students' 4C skills can be effectively improved by implementing gamification-based interactive evaluation materials in conjunction with a flipped classroom and project-based learning approach.

Abstract

This study explored the relationship between self-efficacy and academic performance on gender and academic program differences among 204 undergraduate students at a university in Misamis Occidental. This study employed a descriptive-correlational method. The respondents were predominantly female with the majority enrolled in Social Work and Psychology. While they showed a strong belief in their academic abilities, this inconsistently translate into higher academic performance. Significant differences in self-efficacy were observed across academic programs, with Social Work students reporting the highest levels and Psychology students the lowest. However, gender insignificantly impact either self-efficacy or academic performance. This study suggests that self-efficacy must interact with other factors, such as motivation, learning strategies, and program-specific influences, instead of making it a direct predictor of academic success. Investigating the long-term impact of self-efficacy on academic outcomes, the role of external factors and their interaction with self-efficacy, and their contribution to a deeper understanding of its influence on academic outcomes must also be considered for further studies. Institutions should implement targeted interventions to enhance student self-efficacy and academic resilience as additional support for lower-performing programs for a more holistic approach to student development in higher education.
