Abstract

This study was to find out how much students' reading comprehension improved after the application of Keyword Method, as well as how involved the eleventh grade students at SMK Madyatama Palembang were in the learning process. Three cycles of classroom action research, or CAR, are used in the research procedure. This study is focused on improving the real condition of the English teaching and learning process to teach the improvement of the students’ reading comprehension. The findings showed that there is a significant improvement of students’ reading comprehension by using the application of keyword method. The students’ improvement in reading skill as shown in cycle 1 was 23%, cycle 2 was 65%, and cycle 3 was 88%. It is concluded that the use of Keyword Method effectively improves the Eleventh Grade Student’s Reading Comprehension at SMK Madyatama Palembang.

Abstract

This study aims to  describe how social networking site could improve students’ reading achievement of State Junior High School 3 of Rambang Niru. This research used the Classroom Action Research (CAR) which consists of four steps, namely planning, action, observation and reflection. Success Criteria of the Reasearch is the school minimal passing grade, which was 60. The result of this study is Social Networking Site can improve the students’ reading achievement of the eight gare students as Junior High School 3 of Rambang Niru. It could be seen in the result of cycle III. There were 28 students who had met English standard score was 60, it was around 87.5% and the mean students was 75.62. It is possible to draw the conclusion that social networking sites are highly beneficial and have a significant impact on raising students' reading achievement based on the findings in the previous chapter. Students can use social networking sites (SNS) to learn English outside of the classroom at any time and from any location, regardless of time or space constraints. Students utilized social networking sites (SNS) for studying, particularly English, as it was effective and adaptable.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the process and results of developing a picture series to teach English reading skills for explanatory text material. The sample of this research is the XI grade students of MA Bustanul Mutaalimin which amounted to 19 people. Students learn many things at school, including learning languages.  This type of research is Research and Development (R&D) using the ADDIE model. The data in this study were collected through observation, unstructured interviews, and questionnaires. The data were analyzed using a manual percentage formula. The results were obtained from the validation of instruments, media, and materials. The percentage of media expert validation gets a value of 83% which means "very valid", and material expert validation gets a value of 72.5% which means "valid". In addition, the results of student responses about the media get a score of 81,57% which means "very satisfied". In conclusion, the picture series learning media is ready to be used by teachers as a learning media.

Abstract

Writing is a skill that is needed by the students nowadays, which is the capacity of an English teacher to become a significant element to improve students’ understanding in writing, especially in the use of Merdeka curriculum. But the phenomenon of teacher is still unfamiliar with the Merdeka curriculum and its content knowledge, Technological, Pedagogical, and Content Knowledge (TPACK) is still infrequently applied, while the use of technology should be implemented in learning process of Merdeka curriculum. To face this phenomenon, this study focused on the integration, implementation, and result of TPACK itself in writing skill. This study was a case study where a qualitative descriptive method to assess the result. There was an English teacher who became the main participant to be observed, which she taught class X Akuntansi Keuangan Lembaga (AKL) whom the researcher observed. The data was conducted by using observation, interview, questionnaire, and documentation. The result showed that TPACK was implemented by teachers and had a positive impact on students’ writing.  In addition, the integration of technology, pedagogy, and content of teaching constructed the implementation of TPACK. It affected the students’ skills to get good writing that was assessed by the teacher’s writing rubric.

Abstract

The research's objective is to describe the process of developing contextual-based student worksheets while at the same time knowing the results of developing contextual-based student worksheets for students. To achieve this goal, the type of research used is Research and Development (R&D). Data collection techniques in this study were validation questionnaires and student responses. Data were analyzed through the level of validity and practicality of student worksheets (LKS) using a predetermined formula. The results of this development have resulted in student worksheets being declared very valid by students’ worksheet and material design experts with an average value of 92%. Student satisfaction response questionnaire obtained by 90% can be said to be very practical. The conclusion of the study is that the use of student worksheets (LKS) can improve the vocabulary mastery of MI Al - Usman class VI Kedungkandang Malang students, especially in the ability to understand concrete learning

Abstract

The research focuses on the development of "Eng-Lab", an application designed to improve professional English skills in Metro Cities. This research aims to enrich educational technology literature and contribute practical solutions to English language learning challenges. Funded by LITABDIMAS, Director General of Education at the Ministry of Religion, this research identifies English as an important communication tool in the global work environment. The methodology used is a needs-based approach, combining expert insights and participant feedback through interviews and surveys. The result is an innovative, adaptive and interactive learning tool tailored to the user's needs. The app, assessed for its effectiveness, promises to overcome language barriers in the job market and increase economic growth. The study concludes that Eng-Lab, developed through extensive analysis and user feedback, offers a valuable and responsive educational tool for improving professional English proficiency in a diverse and developing economy

Abstract

This study aimed to find moral values in the novel entitled “It Ends with Us” by Colleen Hoover. This study was used qualitative method where researcher conduct analysis of the intrinsic elements and moral values. Researcher used triangulation to enhance the accuracy of the study which focused on focus group discussion (FGD) and interviews. Based on the findings, and the results of FGD and interviews, it can be stated that solid intrinsic elements help construct the story very well, therefore it becomes interesting story for its readers in many countries. There are several moral values obtained from the novel, they are modesty, honesty, love and affection, bravery, sympathetic to others, kind-hearted, and sincerity. These moral values will be very important for students as the next generations of Indonesia. If these moral values are instilled into students, it is hoped that their morals will be improved gradually. Therefore, the target of the Mandate of the National Education System Law No. 20 of 2003 to develop students' potentials to become men of faith and fear of God Almighty, noble, capable, creative, independent, and democratic and accountable citizens can be obtained.

Abstract

One of the ways to avoid miscommunication is to pronounce the words correctly. Unfortunately, pronunciation is one of the English aspects that are difficult to learn and teach. The research’s objectives are to know and analyze how the YouTube Music application could improve the eighth grade students’ pronunciation mastery at SMP Negeri 56 Palembang and to find out the causes of the students’ pronunciation problems. It was Classroom Action Research (CAR) with 3 ways of collecting data i.e. test, observation, and questionnaire. It was conducted for class 8.5 at SMP Negeri 56 Palembang. The research reached the successful criteria in the third cycle i.e. 80% of the students reached the KKM. The results showed that by doing the drilling technique, asking the students to sing the song together in some groups, and choosing the appropriate songs e.g. the songs that are viral or happening in the pronunciation classroom activities, the student’s enthusiasm and pronunciation mastery got higher. The lack of exposure to English, the lack of motivation to study English pronunciation, and some English sounds that are hard to pronounce because students do not find them in their native, are the three causes of the students’ pronunciation problems.

Abstract

This study aimed at determining:(1) strategies in teaching Critical Listening; (2) implementation of strategies in teaching Critical Listening; (3) challenges in teaching Critical Listening; (4) solutions for teaching Critical Listening. This study was a qualitative using case study method. The respondent was the lecturer of Critical Listening. Data collection technique were observation, interview, questionnaire and documentation. Data analyses technique were data collection, data display, conclusion and review. The findings showed that (1) strategies used were Bottom-Up and Top-Down, and Direct Strategy. (2) this strategies used to guide students comprehend meanings from audio, understand vocabularies, know the outline of conversation from audio, build students’ confidence in sharing their critical thoughts about topics. (3) challenges were time allocation, unsupported media, lack of understanding vocabularies, students’ low motivation in improving listening skill. (4) solutions were manage time allocation, improving learning environment of listening skill, adapting, improving students’ vocabularies and using various strategies.

Abstract

study aims to investigate students' perceptions of YouTube on their speaking performance. The survey was used as a r This esearch methodology and qualitative approach to conduct a comprehensive and detailed investigation regarding the use of social media in students' speaking processes. This research involved 20 students registered in the English education study program at Muhammadiyah University, North Sumatra. The survey was designed using Google forms and then distributed via WhatsApp groups. Observable behavior and written or verbal statements from individuals provide descriptive data (Moleong, 2004). The themes raised are how speaking skills improve after using social media, preferences for social media for learning to speak, advantages and disadvantages of using social media for learning to speak. Research findings can be concluded from research findings on how students view the use of YouTube in speaking sessions. In the opinion of some students, networking is the main issue in using YouTube for academic purposes. Students can improve their speaking skills, especially those related to vocabulary and pronunciation, by watching YouTube.
