Abstract

Stunting is a chronic nutritional problem influenced by various factors, including maternal behavior before and during pregnancy. Social environment, lifestyle, nutritional status, and maternal health history play significant roles in the incidence of stunting. This study aims to describe the behaviors of mothers during the preconception period and pregnancy who have children with stunting conditions. This research is a descriptive quantitative study with a retrospective approach. A total of 17 mothers with stunted toddlers in Monggonao Subdistrict, Bima City, in 2024 were selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected through questionnaires and interviews, then analyzed univariately and presented in frequency distribution tables. Most mothers did not smoke but were exposed to cigarette smoke as passive smokers both during preconception and pregnancy. As many as 58.8% regularly attended antenatal care, yet still had children with stunting. The majority (64.7%) consumed nutritious food during pregnancy, but not consistently and were limited by economic factors. A total of 47% of mothers had a history of comorbidities such as diabetes, asthma, heart disease, anemia, and chronic energy deficiency (CED). Exposure to cigarette smoke, inconsistent nutritional intake, and maternal health conditions are risk factors contributing to stunting, even among mothers who received antenatal care. A more holistic intervention approach is needed to prevent stunting starting before pregnancy.

Abstract

Postpartum anemia often occurs due to blood loss during labor, lack of iron intake, as well as increased nutritional needs during the breastfeeding period. Recent data from the Indonesian Ministry of Health (2023) shows that 38.5% of postpartum women experience mild to moderate anemia. One of the non-pharmacological efforts to overcome anemia in nursing mothers is katuk leaves (Sauropus androgynus) as a breast milk facilitating plant, but also contains iron, vitamin C, and other active compounds that are beneficial for increasing hemoglobin levels (Widowati et al., 2021).The purpose of the study was to be able to carry out midwifery care in nursing mothers with consumption of katuk leaf extract (sauropus androgynus) to increase hemoglobin in nursing mothers at the Rianti Amd.Keb Tanjung Beringin Clinic in 2025 using the Varney 7-step midwifery approach. The research method is descriptive method. From the case study of Mrs. S evaluation by giving consumption of katuk leaf tea extract (sauropus androgynus) to increase hemoglobin in nursing mothers can be concluded with treatment for 2 weeks with 3 visits obtained HB 12 gr / dL and conjunctiva is no longer pale.

Abstract

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is an irreversible condition characterized by shortness of breath during activities and disruption of air flow in and out of the lungs. COPD has the main symptoms, namely shortness of breath, coughing, increased sputum production. One of the non-pharmacological measures for patients with COPD to maintain comfort and facilitate respiratory function is the semi-Fowler position and providing physiotherapy using the clapping technique. The aim of this research is to determine the relationship between giving the semi-Fowler position and the clapping technique to increasing oxygenation. This research method uses a case study of an 85 year old woman, with a diagnosis of COPD who was treated in the ICU, on the 8th day of treatment with a general condition of looking seriously ill, experiencing shortness of breath with RR 30x/minute and Spo2 80%. The semi-Fowler position intervention was carried out at an angle of 30 - 45 degrees for + - 6 hours and the clapping technique was carried out for + - 10 minutes, the clapping technique was carried out in the morning and evening after the nebulizer was applied. There was an effect of increasing oxygen saturation before being given the semi-fowler intervention and giving physiotherapy using the clapping technique, where Spo2 was only 90% but after being given the intervention Spo2 reached 94% - 95%. Thus, giving COPD patients the semi-Fowler position and clapping technique should be given to improve the patient's oxygenation requirements during the treatment period.

Abstract

Oral and dental health is an essential aspect of overall health, particularly in elementary school-aged children who are in their developmental stages. Gingivitis, or gum inflammation, is a common oral disease among children and can be prevented through proper knowledge and positive attitudes toward oral hygiene. This study aims to examine the relationship between knowledge and attitudes about oral health and hygiene with the incidence of gingivitis among fifth-grade students at SDN Dukuh Kupang V Surabaya. This analytic quantitative research used a cross-sectional approach and involved 63 respondents. Data were collected through questionnaires and analyzed using the Chi-Square test. The results showed a significant relationship between students' knowledge and attitudes toward oral health and the incidence of gingivitis (p < 0.001). Students with better knowledge and attitudes were less likely to suffer from gingivitis. These findings highlight the importance of early education and the development of healthy habits to prevent periodontal diseases.

Abstract

Baroreceptor-mediated blood pressure regulation is a vital autonomic mechanism influenced by various physiological factors, including physical activity and sleep quality. However, few studies have explored these relationships specifically in healthy adult women. This study aimed to examine the association between physical activity levels and sleep quality with baroreceptor function, measured through blood pressure changes from supine to standing positions. A cross-sectional analytical study was conducted involving 55 healthy adult women selected by purposive sampling from participants of community exercise programs at Klinik Pratama Unimus and Yayasan Al-Muqorrobin, Semarang. Participants completed the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), followed by measurement of systolic, diastolic, and pulse pressure differences during the Schellong test. Baroreceptor response was operationalized as the difference in blood pressure and pulse rate from supine to erect positions. Data were analyzed using Spearman's rank correlation in SPSS version 25. A significant correlation was observed between physical activity levels and systolic blood pressure changes (r = 0.272, p = 0.045), as well as between sleep quality and diastolic blood pressure changes (r = -0.336, p = 0.012), indicating that higher physical activity and better sleep quality are associated with more stable baroreceptor responses. In conclusion, physical activity and sleep quality are significantly associated with baroreceptor-mediated blood pressure regulation in healthy adult women. Our findings suggest that lifestyle factors may play a role in maintaining autonomic cardiovascular function.

Abstract

The growth and development of Indonesian children still requires serious attention because the rate of growth and developmental delays remains high. About 5-10% of children experience common developmental delays. Two out of 1,000 babies experience motor delays; three to six babies experience developmental delays and hearing problems; and one in 100 children experience intellectual and language delays. This study aimed to determine the effect of the PrimaKu educational application on parents' knowledge of monitoring their children's growth and development. The study employed a quasi-experimental pre-test post-test design with a control group. The study sample consisted of 160 respondents. The results revealed that the average pre-test knowledge score was 2.73, with a standard deviation of 0.571. The average post-test knowledge score was 1.34, with a standard deviation of 0.635. The mean difference between the pre-test and post-test was 1.381, with a standard deviation of 0.734. The statistical test results yielded a p-value of 0.000, indicating a significant difference in respondents' knowledge before and after receiving education. Therefore, it can be concluded that the PrimaKu application education significantly improves mothers' knowledge of monitoring their children's growth and development.

Abstract

Body mass index (BMI) is an indicator of nutritional status that affects health and muscle strength. Obesity inhibits AMPK, which can reduce endurance and decrease muscle function, increasing the risk of disease. This study aims to determine the relationship between BMI and muscle strength in students at the Faculty of Medicine, Jenderal Achmad Yani University. This research used a cross-sectional analytical observational study method on pre-clinical students at the Faculty of Medicine, Jenderal Achmad Yani University Class of 2023. Samples were taken using inclusion and exclusion criteria, involving measurements of body mass index, grip strength, and jumps. Data analysis uses SPSS and complies with research ethics. The research results show that the majority of FK Unjani Class of 2023 students have a normal body mass index (BMI) (50%), which indicates good nutritional status. All respondents with overweight and obese BMI classes I and II showed standing long jump results below average (100%); only 7.1% of respondents with normal BMI reached the average category. Most respondents with normal BMI had normal hand strength (57.1%), as did those with class II obesity (83.3%). There was no significant relationship between BMI and muscle strength after being tested using the chi-square statistical test, with p-values of 0.629 and 0.792, respectively. This research is in line with previous studies that showed insignificance in the relationship between BMI and muscle strength. The majority of FK Unjani Class of 2023 students have normal BMI, normal muscle strength in handgrip strength, and low in standing long jump. There is no significant relationship between BMI and muscle strength.
