Abstract

Numerous studies have consistently demonstrated the association between stress, depression, and heightened anxiety during pregnancy, which can lead to adverse outcomes such as low birth weight (LBW), preterm birth, and developmental issues in infants. Recent data from the Buleleng District Health Office in December 2021 revealed that approximately 3.1% of infants in the region had low birth weights. Notably, the prevalence of LBW in the catchment area of the Busungbiu I Public Health Center in Buleleng exceeds the district average of 5.6%. Against this backdrop, the present study conducted at the Busungbiu I Public Health Center aims to explore the concerns of pregnant women regarding childbirth amidst the ongoing COVID-19 epidemic. Employing a descriptive-quantitative research design, the study focused on pregnant women who had attended prenatal check-ups at the Busungbiu I Public Health Center within the previous month. The sample comprised 80 respondents selected through probability random sampling. Among the respondents, the highest proportion, accounting for 35%, reported experiencing moderate levels of anxiety. Furthermore, analysis based on the respondents' age groups revealed that the youngest participants exhibited the highest levels of moderate anxiety. Additionally, respondents who had completed elementary school or an equivalent level of education, as well as those with junior high school education or its equivalent, comprised the groups with the highest prevalence of moderate anxiety. Based on the findings, it is recommended to implement targeted initiatives aimed at enhancing pregnant women's understanding of the significance of pregnancy education. Furthermore, it is encouraged to intensify efforts in providing comprehensive support to pregnant mothers, ensuring they are equipped with the necessary knowledge and resources to navigate the challenges associated with pregnancy and childbirth effectively.

Abstract

The immune system reaction against infections and other foreign substances is known as the immune response. Nutrition is a critical component in the modulation of the immune system, hence the importance of a balanced diet. Better nutrition improves health, reinforces the immune system, contributes to longevity, and decreases the chance of non-communicable diseases. Thus, nutrition, health, and immune system are strongly connected. The aim of the present study is to evaluate current knowledge on the role of nutrition on the immune response. The article was conducted of two databases and were limited to the period from January 2018 to April 2023 with a combination of the following keywords: “role" and "nutrition" and "immune response. The results obtained were 17 articles found at the beginning of the search in both databases, and the 10 full text articles were selected for further review and discussion. The results of this study shows that immunonutrition plays a role in immune function. Nutrition such as vitamins A, B6, B12, C, D, E, and folate; and trace elements (zinc, iron, selenium, magnesium, and copper) play important and complementary roles in supporting both the innate and adaptive immune systems. The development and maintenance of our immune system are very intricately tied to our dietary pattern. Therefore, working on our food habits and improving our nutrition seem to be a pragmatic approach to strengthen our immune response. Multiple micronutrients play vital roles in supporting the immune response.

Abstract

Psidium guava is known as a fruit that contains many bioactive compounds such as polyphenols, flavonoids, and heteropolysaccharides. This review presents the results of the latest research on the effect of guava fruit on type 2 diabetes mellitus. It is proven that guava fruit can act as an antihyperglycemic therapy through mechanisms that include repairing pancreatic cells, increasing insulin sensitivity, inhibiting α-glucosidase, and inhibiting SGLT1 and GLUT2 transporters. These results prove the potential of guava fruit as a functional food for glycemic control in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus.

Abstract

Stunting is a condition where a child's height is not appropriate for their age. In 2022, an estimated 21.6% of children under the age of 5 in Indonesia were affected by stunting. Stunting is a complex nutritional problem influenced by various factors, including the environment. Several studies have examined the relationship between household hygiene and sanitation factors and growth retardation in young children. The aim of this research is to analyze the risk factors associated with personal hygiene and sanitation practices of parents or guardians within households in Indonesia. The research methodology employed in this study is a literature review. A total of 20 selected articles from the Garuda Jurnal and Sinta databases between 2019 and 2022 were evaluated based on publication criteria, namely freely available original research articles where at least one variable analyzed hygiene and sanitation in relation to child growth. The findings of this research were synthesized using the PRISMA method. The articles were grouped based on similar findings to address the research question. This study found that handwashing, access to clean water, toilet sanitation, and the occurrence of diarrhea were associated with the risk of stunting. The conclusion drawn from this research is that most studies indicate a relationship between personal hygiene and sanitation facilities and the occurrence of stunting. For future research, the use of systematic reviews and meta-analyses is recommended.

Abstract

Generation Z is a transitional generation from the previous generation and is also known as iGeneration, the net generation or internet generation. The age group of 18 – 24 years is the highest group in the use of online services with a minimum access of 1 time per month compared to other age groups. Research on adolescent sexual behavior (JHCCO-UGM in 2017) states that adolescents aged 15-19 years seek information about health from peers and the internet. The purpose of this study is to determine the factors that influence Generation Z in seeking health information through the internet. This study used a cross sectional study design with a total sample of 84 people and taken by accidental sampling. Data was collected by distributing questionnaires, the data were analyzed descriptively and used chi-square test. The results of the bivariate study showed that there was no relationship between gender (p=0.463), age (p=1,000) with searching health information via the internet, but there was a relationship between internet use (p=0.000), attitude (p=0.030) and knowledge (p= 0.000). The results of the multivariate test showed that knowledge had the most significant relationship with searching health information via the internet. There is a need for socialization to generation Z regarding health information and internet safety so that they can be more precise in using the internet as a medium for health information
