The rise of negative discourse in the consequences of 9/11 put a strong pressure onMuslim-majority countries. The norm of terrorism or extremism is often attached to theidea of jihad which adhered to Islam. The implication of these diffusion is actually forcingmany actors to restore Islam ideas that are not related to terrorism or extremism. ModerateIslam as an alternative norm finally tried to restore the previously diffused norm of Islam.Moderate Islam is then widely echoed in many countries. One of them is Indonesia, whichhas a Muslim-majority population. In this study, the researchers took the related literaturesthat describe, firstly, how far the norm of moderate Islam were raised in internationaldiscourse and then how far Indonesia was able to emerge the norm. Therefore, theresearchers used a qualitative descriptive method. From the results of the study, theresearchers noted that there were dynamic results in emerging the norm of moderateIslam, Especially in Indonesia. The norm emergence of Wasathiyyah which contained inthe norm of moderate Islam is considered to have succeed involving many communitygroups and government institutions in solidarity to emerge Wasathiyyah. The dynamics ofemerging this norms in Indonesia cannot be separated from both domestic andinternational incentives. The researchers concluded that the norm of moderate Islam hasreached a tipping point in international discourse which of course cannot be shatteredfrom the influence of Muslim-majority countries such as Indonesia, despite the emergenceof this norms was contested by extremism norm in the restoration of Islam norms. Thus, the researchers advocated for urging more actors, motives, and mechanisms to carry outthe norm so that it can be absolutely legitimized in the international discourse.

Abstract

This paper aims to explain the role of Ulama and Umara as important actors in the formation of Islamic civilization in the Sultanate of Bima. The method used in tracking the supporting data is the historical writing method which consists of heuristics, source criticism, interpretation and historiography. The historical method is useful in reconstructing the past systematically in order to reach a complete conclusion. The results of the study show that the relationship between Ulama and Umara can be traced since the wave of Islamization in the Bima Sultanate. Ulama with religious authority confirmed Islam (as a new civilization) in a political institution (sultanate) controlled by Umara. While Umara in the context of the Sultanate of Bima is a Sultan as a figure holding the reins of power. Ulama with religious authority are eager to develop da'wah and fully support the Sultan's efforts in confirming Islam as the official religion in his territory. Thus, the role and position of the Ulama and Umara became very important actors for the formation of a new civilization with an Islamic spirit in the Sultanate of Bima.

Abstract

This paper examines Mattampung tradition in the Bugis community which is analyzed usingthe Living Qur'an lens. The Living Qur'an study is a study of the Qur'an but does not rely onits textual side, but on social phenomena that are born related to the presence of the Qur'an insociety. Meanwhile, Mattampung tradition is a tombstone planting ceremony as a substitutefor the tombstones that are planted when the body is buried. In this tradition, khatam al-Qur'an and tahlil are carried out. This tradition is carried out with the hope that all prayersfrom the community will reach the person who died so that he is given a quiet place by hisside. This study focuses on Barugae village community, Bone, South Sulawesi. The methodused is the ethnographic method, which is a qualitative design in which the researcherdescribes and interprets the same patterns of values, behavior, beliefs and language of a groupwith the same culture. The results of this study indicate that the implementation ofMattampung tradition is a form of local community reception of the glory of completing theQur'an and the suggestion to pray for the dead. Khatam al-Qur'an in this tradition occupies avery important position, especially as a complement to the implementation of Mattampungtradition. Thus, this tradition becomes a place for the local community to send prayers andcomplete the Qur'an with the aim that the reward of the prayer and completion can reach theperson who died and can make it easier for him in his next life.
