Abstract

The advent of online learning has made it necessary for educators to develop new teaching strategies, particularly in the area of questioning techniques. This study aimed to explore the types of questioning strategies employed by teachers during online reading classes and identify the factors that contribute to the frequent use of a specific approach. The study used observation checklists and interview guidelines based on Bloom's taxonomy and Wragg and Brown's questioning strategies to gather data from second-year English language students enrolled in an online reading class. The research findings revealed that to engage students, evaluate their comprehension, and ensure alignment with the textbook material the teacher primarily utilized "Understand" and "Analyze" questions, along with directed, distributed, responded, and sequenced strategies. The teacher also utilized Zoom's chat box feature to ask questions and enable students to provide direct answers. The results of this study demonstrate the importance of effective questioning techniques in online learning environments. The teacher's use of a variety of questioning strategies had a positive impact on the students' ability to acquire knowledge, demonstrating that a diverse range of strategies can help students achieve deeper levels of understanding. The research findings have important implications for the education sector as it provides insights into effective teaching strategies that can help promote student engagement and enhance their learning outcomes.

Abstract

ABSTRACT This research is aimed at developing printed teaching materials with a pragmatic perspective for college students. The design of this research is descriptive qualitative by sharing questionnaire made with google form through the WhatsApp group of two classes. The unit of analysis was the responses of 40 students from 2 classes. This research was based on a qualitative analysis of the students' responses. From the responses, it can be concluded that teaching materials have a very vital role and function in the learning process. Therefore, teaching materials should be designed and developed in such a way that they are adapted to the existing curriculum and also to the needs of students. In this research, researchers will develop an English teaching material with pragmatic perspective which are able to help English learners reach the expected communicative competence. In total, there are five sections that were asked to students. Those five sections are, 1) Textbook availability, 2) Textbook Visual, 3) Textbook Contents, 4) The Textbook Currently Being Used, and 5) Text Selections.

Abstract

The Ministry of Education and Culture's intervention in supporting the implementation of the independent curriculum, from policy to technical matters, is carried out because the experience of implementing a top-down curriculum experienced many obstacles. Among the five forms of technical intervention carried out by the Ministry of Education and Culture which are in direct contact with teachers, both teachers at driving schools and non-moving schools, are the independent teaching platform or “Platform Merdeka Mengajar” (PMM). The extent to which the effectiveness of the independent teaching platform (PMM) can increase teacher competence in achieving learning in the classroom is the aim of this research. The methods used are the critical method, dialectical method, and scholastic method. This research is included in library research. The author tries to find data, and theories related to the issues raised in various literature or references that the author finds and then compares them using the method mentioned above. The research results show that the content of the independent teaching platform meets the dimensions and indicators that can increase teacher competence. After learning by utilizing PMM, teacher competence increases according to the indicators that have been determined, so PMM has very high effectiveness in increasing teacher competence in their learning performance.

Abstract

This research conducted classroom action research in Grade 1 of a Mother Tongue-Based Multilingual Education (MTB-MLE) program, which aims to promote the use of local languages as mediums of instruction in the early years of education. The study found that Ilokano learners tended to use English more often than Ilokano, which highlighted the importance of supporting their cultural identity and heritage through the MTB-MLE program. The Ilokano-Based Translanguaging Approach to Mother Tongue-Based Multilingual Education (IBTA-MTB-MLE) was developed to support instruction, and a formative assessment strategy called Collaborative Translanguaging Formative Assessment (CTFA) was developed to align with the teaching approach. The study aimed to test the effectiveness of CTFA by preparing four lesson sessions where learners work together to think, talk, write, and give feedback using their full range of linguistic repertoire. After the implementation of CTFA, a pre-test and post-test were conducted to determine the achievement of the Ilokano learners in MTB-MLE. The results showed that the majority of the students moved to higher ranges of score after the intervention, with an increase in mean scores from 20.1 to 25.87. The study highlights the benefits of translanguaging in language education and collaboration in assessment.

Abstract

Learning design is the main thing that can support the learning outcomes of students. There needs to be effort in optimizing, especially on the implications of Self Regulated Learning. This effort is expected to be able to coordinate the various abilities of students by increasing learning characteristics. Self Regulated Learning is a learning characteristic that requires students to be responsible for themselves in active learning to improve their learning achievement. Based on the results of research conducted at various levels of education, it was found that the use of Self-regulated Learning has a significant contribution to learning and improves student learning achievement. Therefore it is necessary for us to have broad insight in understanding the psychology of learning and be able to condition it through constructive and meaningful learning designs. Educators are expected to be more observant in understanding the characteristics of students' abilities so that they are more flexible and open.

Abstract

This research aim at examining students’ perceptions regarding the use of tranlanguaging in language classroom. There were 29 students in a university level involved in this research. Mix methods was used to gain data in which observation, questionnaire, and interview were implemented. Observations analyzed qualitatively by using descriptive analysis in detail information. The questionnaire was further analyzed by calculating percentages in Likert scale questionnaire. For interview section, researchers developed the question based on students answers from google form and transcribed all information and responses into English language. The findings show that students assess translanguaging from 2 aspects, positive and negative. Although they have a positive view of translating in certain situations, they do not often use this pedagogy because it is considered less efficient. This research emphasized that students can gain the good impact of translanguaging if they have a deep understanding how to practice it correctly in language classroom.
