Abstract

Nurses are one of the most vital frontlines in combating and alleviating the spread of the novel coronavirus, commonly known as COVID–19. The study aimed to describe the lived experiences of overseas Filipino nurses working in Western and Middle Eastern countries amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. This study utilized a descriptive-phenomenological method research design and was conducted online in the City of Tacurong, Sultan Kudarat, Philippines. The respondents of this study were the selected five (5) Overseas Filipino Nurses in Western countries and five (5) Overseas Filipino Nurses in Middle–Eastern countries. Colaizzi's Thematic Analysis was used to analyze the data. This study presented emergent themes of stressors, coping mechanisms, short/long-term effects, and participants' responses based on their lived experiences. Overseas Filipino nurses are not just "modern-day heroes" but also "modern-day shepherds" who constantly look for greener pastures for their families in the Philippines. With family and friends as shoelaces that strengthen the difficult journey, overseas Filipino nurses put their "Leg – On," a term derived from the Ilonggo term "Malig- on," which means strong in facing the difficulties and realities of working in another country.

Abstract

An adaptive e-learning system is a system that caters to the needs of learners such as their learning style and knowledge. The adaptive e-learning system has been proven to improve the outcomes of learners and increase their motivation to learn. Several techniques could be used to create an adaptive e-learning system, one of them is adjusting the materials according to learners’ learning style. VARK Learning style is one of the learning styles that is fitted to be applied to adaptive e-learning systems and help learners understand how they learn better. To make an adaptive e-learning system based on VARK learning styles, there are several things to be noted. An adaptive e-learning system has three main components consisting of learner model, domain model, and adaptation model. Since the VARK learning style is flexible, it could be adjusted according to the study materials when needed by combining one style with another to create a combined style suited to the study materials. A multimodal mode is also needed to fully cater to the needs of learners who have more than one learning style. This can be done by providing them with features representing each of the main four VARK learning styles and letting the learners choose the needed features. This paper emphasizes the main foundation of an adaptive e-learning system and the needs of multimodal features in it, including a design framework to help get a better understanding of designing an adaptive e-learning system for learning applications.

Abstract

Community-based Tourism (CBT) provides sustainability principles, local community participation, and benefits for local communities. The research aims to present the strengthening of the role of the local community in developing countries through CBT and find research gaps related to factors to strengthen the role of the local community in developing countries through CBT. The methodology was a narrative review. Papers were collected from ScienceDirect and Google Scholar links in 1999-2023, using the keyword "community-based-tourism," and applied inclusion/ exclusion criteria. Eighty-two papers were processed using a VOS viewer. The results reveal that strengthening the role of the local community through CBT still faces internal and external challenges. However, there are some opportunities to strengthen the role of the local community in the themes of power and empowerment. Since most of the CBT research was in the context of uptown, future research should be conducted in downtown.

Abstract

This study showed epistemological renewal that integrates the values of the Qur'an and As-Sunnah as the main foundation. The Epistemology of Islamic education pays attention to cognition as well as the development of spirituality and the character of students. This is very important because the goal of Islamic education is to produce students who not only have cognitive intelligence but also have high moral and social awareness. The spread of a more materialistic and secular Western educational paradigm is a major problem. Therefore, this study investigated new methods in the epistemology of Islamic education, including empirical, scientific, philosophical, and religious methods. This method created a broader and integrative education system that can produce the ideal human being (insān Kamil), which is in line with the goals of Islamic education.

Abstract

Indigenous languages in Bangladesh are rapidly declining because they are excluded from formal education and public domains, threatening cultural identity and social cohesion. This study aims to examine how educational and institutional barriers contribute to indigenous language loss among ethnic communities. A mixed-methods approach, including surveys, interviews, and focus group discussions with ethnic minorities, teachers, and community leaders, was employed to collect both qualitative and quantitative data. The results reveal that indigenous languages lack representation in schools because of the absence of textbooks, trained teachers, and government support. Communities face cultural and educational exclusion because children are forced to learn in Bengali, leading to high dropout rates and loss of native languages. The study highlights the urgent need for bilingual education and policy reforms. Its impact lies in offering practical recommendations to policymakers and educators for preserving linguistic diversity and promoting inclusive education that supports ethnic communities in Bangladesh.
