Abstract

Kalimantan Barat is characterized by peat and soft soils with low bearing capacity. Excessive loads on these soil types can cause significant soil subsidence, increasing the cracks risk in building structures. Alongside advancements in science and technology in the construction sector, sustainable building material innovations continue to be developed, one of which is using lightweight bricks as an alternative wall material. This study aims to evaluate the manufacturing method of lightweight bricks based on rice husk fibre and to analyze the effect of varying fly ash content on their physical and mechanical properties, referring to the SNI 8640:2018 standard. The fly ash compositions used were 0%, 35%, 40%, 45%, and 50%. Tests included visual inspection, bulk density, water absorption, sound and heat resistance, drying shrinkage, fire resistance, compressive strength, and tensile strength. The results show that adding fly ash significantly influences the brick"™s performance. The variation with 35% fly ash addition (Variation 2) demonstrated the most optimal performance, achieving the best balance between mechanical strength, thermal resistance, and physical characteristics by the SNI 8640:2018 standard. This study confirms that rice husk fibre lightweight bricks have the potential as an environmentally friendly alternative building material that meets technical standards.

Abstract

Vehicle queues at toll gates are a significant issue in Indonesia, causing traffic congestion, especially near the toll gates, due to high vehicle volumes. To address this, the Indonesian government plans to implement the Multi-Lane Free Flow (MLFF) system, which allows vehicles to pass without stopping, aiming to reduce congestion and improve traffic efficiency. This study evaluates the feasibility and effectiveness of implementing MLFF at the Keramasan Toll Gate on the Trans-Sumatera Toll Road. The methodology was used quantitatively with an M/M/s queuing model to analyze the current performance of the toll gate service system. Data were collected through field observations, interviews with road users, and secondary data from PT. Jasamarga and the Toll Road Regulatory Agency (BPJT). System performance analysis was conducted by calculating parameters such as average queue length, average time in the system, service rate, and arrival rate. The results show that implementing MLFF can eliminate vehicle transaction times, which previously averaged 8.381 seconds, thus reducing the waiting time in the system to zero seconds. The MLFF system development at the Keramasan Toll Gate is deemed technically and financially feasible, with successful implementation depending on adequate socialization and public support.

Abstract

The increasing number of traffic accidents due to rapid population growth, inadequate road infrastructure, and low driver awareness poses a significant threat to public safety. This study aims to analyze the characteristics of traffic accidents and identify accident-prone areas (black sites) and points (black spots) along the Tanjungpura"“Imam Bonjol road corridor in Pontianak City. The research utilizes traffic accident data from 2018 to 2023, obtained from the Traffic Unit of the Pontianak City Police, and applies both the Accident Equivalent Number (AEK) and Cumulative Sum (CUSUM) methods to identify high-risk segments. The analysis revealed four accident-prone segments"”Segments 6, 7, 8, and 10"”with Segments 6 and 7 demonstrating consistent increases in accident frequency. The majority of accident victims sustained minor injuries, with incidents most frequently occurring on Saturdays and during the afternoon hours. Hit-and-run incidents and motorcycles were the most prevalent type of collision and vehicle involved, respectively. Field surveys indicated high traffic volumes and low vehicle speeds in black spot areas, along with deficiencies in road safety infrastructure such as faded markings and missing signage. The study recommends targeted interventions including road surface repairs, improved signage, and the construction of pedestrian facilities to mitigate traffic accidents and enhance road safety in identified black spot areas

Abstract

The increasing traffic congestion in Pontianak City, primarily driven by population growth and rising mobility, poses a significant challenge for urban transportation management. One of the critical congestion points is the unsignalized triangular intersection at Jalan Sultan Abdurrahman and Jalan Sulawesi, located near public facilities. This study aims to evaluate the performance of this intersection under existing conditions and projected conditions for the year 2029, using the analytical approaches of MKJI 1997, PKJI 2023, and PTV VISSIM software. Primary data were collected through field surveys, while secondary data were obtained from technical documents and official sources, then processed using Microsoft Excel and presented in tables and graphs. The analysis results indicate that the PKJI 2023 method represents current traffic conditions more than MKJI 1997, as its outcomes align more closely with the PTV VISSIM simulation results. Furthermore, the 2029 projection analysis reveals a significant increase in traffic delays, with the Level of Service (LOS) declining from A to C. Among eight evaluated alternative treatments, widening the main road lanes to 5 meters in each direction proved to be the most effective solution, reducing delays to 12,13 seconds per vehicle and improving the LOS to category B.

Abstract

Earthquakes are among the natural disasters that pose significant risks to building structures, necessitating meticulous structural planning to minimize the potential for collapse and to safeguard occupant safety. This study examines the structural planning of a four-story office building in Tangerang, Indonesia, emphasizing aesthetics, functionality, and earthquake resistance. The Indonesian National Standards (SNI) conducted the planning process, utilizing SAP2000 software as the primary tool for structural analysis. The adopted methodology includes the application of SNI 1727:2020 for live Load calculations, SNI 1726:2019 for seismic analysis, the DeRuiter and Beringen method for the design of bored pile foundations, and comprehensive structural element modeling using SAP2000. The analysis results indicate that the structural system satisfies the safety requirements, with its capacity exceeding the maximum expected working loads. Although the design approach is conservative, this study recommends optimizing structural element dimensions to enhance cost efficiency. Identified challenges include limitations in SAP2000 modeling capabilities and technical assumptions related to reinforcement placement.

Abstract

This study evaluates the hydraulic performance of Palembang"™s drainage system under passive and pump-assisted conditions using EPA SWMM 5.1 modeling. The passive scenario (pump inactive) revealed critical vulnerabilities, particularly at Junction 19, where water levels rose 1.8 meters, causing overtopping and backwater effects extending 285 meters upstream. This confirms the system"™s inability to handle extreme rainfall (>50 mm/hr) without mechanical intervention. In contrast, activating the 650 LPS pump system reduced flood volumes by 89% and maintained water levels 0.6 meters below channel banks, eliminating overflows. The simulations demonstrate that Palembang"™s flat topography (0.2% slope) necessitates hybrid drainage solutions combining gravity flow and targeted pumping. Key findings include: (1) Junction 19 requires prioritized upgrades due to persistent bottlenecks, (2) pump activation thresholds must be optimized to 0.85-meter water levels for timely response, and (3) system-wide flood duration can be reduced by 78% with mechanical assistance. These results provide a blueprint for climate-resilient urban drainage in low-gradient delta cities, though long-term success depends on regular maintenance, sediment control, and adaptive pump operations tied to real-time weather forecasts.

Abstract

Reinforced Concrete (RC) beams are primary structural elements that often suffer damage due to repeated loading, particularly in flexural cracks that propagate and reduce structural integrity and load-carrying capacity. Conventional repair methods are considered inefficient due to their high cost, complexity, and time-consuming procedures. As a viable alternative, composite materials like Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer (CFRP) have gained attention due to their superior tensile strength, lightweight properties, Corrosion resistance, and Straightforward application. This research highlights evaluating the performance of the Near-Surface Mounted (NSM) technique with CFRP in improving the bending strength of reinforced concrete beams. Two specimens were experimentally tested, each incorporating concrete with compressive capacities of 32 MPa and 35 MPa, using configurations of one and two CFRP strips. The experimental results indicated that the use of two CFRP strips led to an enhancement in load-carrying capacity by as much as 35,67%. Additionally, improvements in ductility and more controlled failure modes were observed. This study confirms that the NSM-CFRP system is highly effective as a structural strengthening solution, particularly for elements requiring high flexural performance.

Abstract

The rapid population growth in Pontianak has contributed to an increase in private vehicle usage, leading to increased traffic congestion, particularly at signalized intersections. One such problematic intersection is located at the intersection of Veteran Street, Gajahmada Street, Pahlawan Street, and Budi Karya Street, which serves as a central access point in and out of the city. This study aims to evaluate the performance of the intersection using the Indonesian road capacity analysis methods, MKJI 1997 and PKJI 2023, as well as the microscopic simulation software PTV VISSIM. Primary data, such as geometric design, traffic signal timing, traffic volume, and vehicle speed, were collected through field surveys and CCTV analysis. The results showed that the degree of saturation (DS) exceeded 0.85, indicating a need for immediate improvement. Several alternative solutions were proposed and analyzed, with the most effective being the combination of road widening on Veteran Street and conversion of Budi Karya Street into a one-way road with a three-phase signal cycle. This scenario successfully reduced DS below the critical threshold, improving overall intersection performance. The study demonstrates the importance of integrating analytical and simulation approaches for effective traffic management in urban areas.

Abstract

The rapid growth of the population has led to an increase in motor vehicle volume, which contributes to a higher risk of traffic accidents and results in significant social and economic impacts. Therefore, a comprehensive analysis is required to identify accident-prone areas and formulate effective mitigation strategies. This study was conducted along the Jalan Lonjengan"“Tanjam, a national road with a total length of 13 km located in Menjalin Subdistrict, Landak Regency. The methods used include the Accident Equivalent Number (AEK) and the Upper Control Limit (BKA) to identify road segments categorized as accident-prone areas (black sites). Data were obtained through field surveys and traffic accident records from 2021 to 2023 provided by the Menjalin Police Sector Traffic Unit (Satlantas Polsek Menjalin). The road was divided into 13 segments, each 1 km in length. The analysis revealed that Segments 7 to 10 had AEK values exceeding the BKA threshold. The dominant accident characteristics included minor injuries, riders aged 31"“45, and side-impact collisions, which mostly occurred during the afternoon and on Fridays. Recommended measures include the installation of warning signs and delineators and regular maintenance of road markings to enhance traffic safety.

Abstract

This study presents an integrated approach to optimizing urban drainage infrastructure in Gg. Smile, West Pontianak"”a flood-prone area facing increased hydraulic and environmental stress due to urbanization. Field observations revealed significant degradation in earthen drainage channels, prompting the development of a hybrid system that combines reinforced concrete with ecological features. The proposed design, implemented over six weeks, utilized concrete sheet piles, crossbeams, and biofiltration zones, resulting in a 300% increase in hydraulic capacity while maintaining 40% of the original infiltration potential. IoT-based monitoring systems were embedded for real-time flow surveillance and predictive maintenance. Cost analysis revealed financial feasibility, with material efficiency and safety compliance maintained throughout the project. Post-construction evaluation confirmed a 40"“60% reduction in pollutant loads and a 25% increase in groundwater recharge. The successful use of the S-curve for progress monitoring and resource allocation validated the project"™s management strategy. This study advocates for the replication of hybrid grey-green drainage systems across tropical urban centers, integrating structural resilience with environmental sustainability and intelligent monitoring.
