Abstract

Attitude toward science is believed as one of the factors that can influence student learning outcomes. Therefore, information related to students attitudes towards science is important. This study aims to determine the effect of different levels of education and gender on students attitudes towards science. Student attitudes toward science were measured using a questionnaire instrument with a Likert scale that was adapted to the My Attitude Toward Science (MATS) instrument. Data were analyzed by descriptive analysis and Mann-Whitney test. In general, the results of the study indicated students showed positive attitudes towards science. Mann-Whitney test results also showed that the level of education has a significant effect on students' attitudes towards science statistically [U=4259.5; p<0.05]. Meanwhile, statistically, gender differences significantly influence students' attitudes towards science [U=4384.0; p<0.05]. The implication of this study is teachers could consider these results when they want to design instruction. In addition, this result is also important to preservice science teachers at the level of junior high school and senior high school to know the characteristics of the students attitude.AbstrakSikap terhadap pelajaran sains dipahami sebagai salah satu faktor yang dapat memengaruhi hasil belajar siswa. Oleh karena itu, informasi terkait sikap siswa terhadap sains menjadi penting. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh perbedaan level pendidikan dan gender terhadap sikap siswa terhadap sain. Sikap siswa terhadap sains diukur dengan menggunakan instrumen kuesioner dengan skala likert. Sikap siswa terhadap sains diukur dengan menggunakan instrumen My Attitude Toward Science (MATS). Data dianalisis dengan analisis deskriptif dan uji Mann-Whitney. Secara umum, hasil penelitian menunjukkan persepsi sikap siswa yang positif terhadap sains. Hasil Mann-Whitney test menunjukkan bahwa secara statistik, level pendidikan berpengaruh signifikan terhadap sikap siswa terhadap sains [U=4259,5; p<0,05]. Sementara itu, secara statistik, perbedaan jenis kelamin berpengaruh signifikan terhadap sikap siswa terhadap sains [U = 4384,0; p<0,05]. Guru dapat menjadikan hasil ini sebagai pertimbangan dalam merancang pembelajaran. Selain itu, hasil ini juga penting diketahui bagi calon guru sains pada tingkatan Sekolah Menengah Pertama (SMP) maupun Sekolah Menengah Atas (SMA) sebagai salah satu poin yang perlu diperhatikan dalam mengajar.Kata Kunci: Gender, Level Pendidikan, Sains, Sikap

Abstract

Perkembangan biomolekuler yang cepat menyebabkan pemahaman mengenai konsep DNA perlu ditanamkan sejak awal, terutama pada siswa sekolah menengah. Konsep DNA dapat diajarkan melalui teknik isolasi DNA secara tradisional. Teknik ini dapat dilakukan dengan menggunakan peralatan dan bahan sederhana dan tanpa protokol yang rumit. Tujuan praktek ini adalah menggunakan teknik isolasi DNA secara tradisional dengan menggunakan bahan isolasi DNA berupa hati ayam yang mudah diperoleh, dan enzim protease yang diperoleh dari ektraksi mandiri sel daun pepaya. Pada akhir proses isolasi diperoleh DNA, namun DNA yang didapatkan merupakan gabungan antara DNA hati ayam dan DNA sel daun pepaya. Kesimpulan dari praktek ini adalah teknik isolasi DNA tradisional dapat dilakukan untuk mengisolasi DNA dari sel hati ayam meskipun tidak dapat dibuktikan secara meyakinkan bahwa DNA yang diisolasi itu murni hanya berasal dari DNA inti sel hati ayam. Abstract

 Teaching materials are an important factor in the success of the learning process. This study aims to develop interactive electronic teaching materials for Calculus courses, especially the area of the region bounded above by function f,   below by function g, on the left by the line x = a, and the right by the line x = b, it is based on the needs of students and lecturers related to interactive materials. The method used is Research and Development methods with ADDIE procedures, that is, Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. In this paper, just until the implementation stage. The developed teaching materials consist of fully developed text, audio, and video media. Supporting software used are 3D Flipbook, Video Scribe, and Geogebra. Base on data analyss, the interactive electronic teaching materials can improve student skill to find the area of the region bounded by two functions.

Abstract

This research has the objective of knowing the application of light concept as a sensor in the moment of projectile motion using the aplication of light sensor interfacing in stopwatch. The making of light sensor device is with electronic circuits method, while the defeniting the time uses digital stopwatch. Both devices are combined to be instrument of projectile motion experiment. The result of data analysis from the graphic, the distance of the time line the curve, that it is achieved a relationship between the variable and gradient or the degree of the graphic slope of the line is 4,875. From the calculation the gradient got gravitational acceleration (g) that is 9,75 m/s2. Gravitational acceleration that is almost reading the standard  gravitational acceleration, that is 9,8 m/s2 and it has only 0,05 m/s2 in difference from the research. It proves that this device can work well and stopwatch can automatically work. Keywords:  Interfacing  light sensor, motion projectile.

Abstract

This research was conducted to reveal the science process skills of pre-service physics teacher. There were 241 students (64 men and 177 women) were given the science process skills test. Overall average science process skills score of students at 48.88 with a low category. There are seven aspects of the science process skills were revealed. The average score of predicting 41.55; classifying 41.76; interpreting data 49.37; hypothesize 49.48; plan experiments 50.26; observing 50.34 and apply concepts 59.43. Science process skills of male did not differ significantly with female (sig. 0.717> 0.05). The physic education courses need to improve science process skills of students. Abstract

Abstract This research had been conducted in the use of avocado seed powder (Persea americana Mill) as an adsorbent to reduce peroxide and free fatty acids of the used cooking oil. The aim of  this research was to determine the best activator of avocado seed powder as an adsorbent to reduce peroxide and free fatty acids of the used cooking oil. This research used the variation of activators, consist of  hydrochloric acid (HCl), citric acid (C6H8O7), sodium chloride (NaCl) and sodium hydrogen phosphate (Na2HPO4) solutions. The result showed that the best activator of avocado seed powder by HCl which gave the highest free fatty acid reduction was 0,26%. Meanwhile, the best activator of avocado seed powder by C6H8O7 which gave the highest peroxide value reduction was 1,8 Meq/Kg . These results had qualified as the maximum limits of SNI cooking oil were 0.3% for the concentration of free fatty acids and 2 Meg/kg for the peroxide value of cooking oil. Keywords: adsorbent, avocado seed powder, used cooking oil

Abstract

The aim of this research is to increase the concepts understanding and the student's competences to measure through the application of contextual teaching and learning models. The subject of this research was abut 40 the first level student's of SLTPN 1 Pontianak. The typed of this research was Classrom Action Research (CAR) by two cycles. The aim of the cycle was Contextual Teaching and Learning that focused about base units and derived' units. Through this research, it will found the information about comprehension profile and student's competences related to the measurement. The achievement of the claasroom action research's cycles was the mastery learning of 70% student that can be done the test minimal 65%. In collecting data the measurement test is done writtenly and performance test. The instruments that used in this research are the concepts understanding and performance test, observation guidance and also the field notes. From the research result, it shown that the qualities of students' concept understanding and competences about measurement are increases. The students' concepts understanding can increase from the average 49,25% to 78,75%, and the students' competence about measurement increase too from the average 42,19% to 77,81%. The result study that analyzed by Mc'Nemar test is showing the differences significantly between the result of pretest and posttest to conceptual understanding. Therefore, in general, the application of contextual teaching and learning multimodel can increase the the students' result study significantly.Key word : Multimodel Teaching, Competences, The Contextual Aproach.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the increase in the mathematical representation ability by students with the application of contextual approach assisted by Students"™ Worksheet (Lembar Kerja Siswa) on the topic of Relation and Function for the eighth grade students of Junior High School 3 in Batu Ampar (SMP Negeri 3). The method used is descriptive method with classroom action research (Penelitian Tindakan Kelas). The subjects were mathematics teachers and students of class VIII. Data collection techniques used are direct observation techniques with a data collection tool is the observation sheet teachers' ability to implementing the learning and observation sheet student"™s abilities of mathematical representation. This research was conducted in 3 cycles, in which the results showed: (1) Increasing the capability of visual representation of the first cycle to the third cycle was 27.5%, (2) Increasing the ability of symbolic representation of the first cycle to the third cycle of 5%, and (3) Improving the ability of verbal representations from the first cycle to the third cycle of 37.5%.

Abstract

This research was aimed to improve students' learning activities through cooperative learning model with outdoor learning method at viability organisms on IX A Junior Secondary School 01 Samalantan. Subjects in this study 33 students. The research instrument used is the observation sheet and field notes. Results showed that an increase in activity after the students are given cooperative learning model with outdoor learning method. Based on the analysis of data obtained the increased activity of the students at 72,73% after implementation cooperative learning model with outdoor learning method in two cycles of action.
