The main purpose of education, according to Madjid as written in his fundamental political agenda about education, is increasing the value of the purity of human being given from God. This is related to the concept of tarbiyah and fitrah as keywords of Islamic education with the goal of fostering the whole person development through character building as well as the development of piety to Allah. This paper employs the semiotic research method and interpretive paradigm and qualitative methodology. This research was based on text analysis by reading text books as sign system. In Indonesian history, education has also raised the idea and the movement of modern nationalism. Therefore, education should be a form of the foremost strategic and productive inventory that should be put on one of the highest levels in the national development priority of Indonesia.

Abstract

Applying appropriate teaching strategy can give huge contribution to students’ achievement. This study investigated the effects of Read, Encode, Annotate, Ponder (REAP) strategy and reading interest on reading comprehension achievement (RCA) of the third semester students of English study program at IAIN Kerinci by applying experimental research method with factorial design. A questionnaire was distributed to the population to find out their reading interest level. Forty students were divided into Experimental and Control groups equally; they were given reading comprehension test as the pre-test and post-test to measure their RCA. The results indicated that REAP strategy significantly improved students’ RCA. Moreover, although the interaction effect between REAP strategy and reading interest on students’ RCA was not found, the mean difference of the post-test scores from the whole sample indicated that the achievement of High reading interest students were significantly better than Low reading interest students. These results suggest that English teachers should apply various appropriate teaching strategies and monitor students’ reading interest while teaching reading.

Abstract

There are many differences among second language learners. In first language acquisition by children, individual differences (e.g. across genders or the language being learned) are largely overshadowed by striking similarities in terms of natural stages and ultimate attainment. However, in second language acquisition, individual differences have more of an impact on the second language learning process, and their role has thus received considerable attention in recent years. Learners beliefs and affective factors are likely to have a direct effect on second language learning, but they themselves may be influenced by a number of general factors relating to learners ability and desire to learn and the way they choose to go about learning. One of those important areas of difference among second language learners is age. We now turn to a discussion of four main effects of age on second language acquisition.

Abstract

In an effort to produce a quality lesson that is run by teachers, the steps taken in the education system is an intense and continuous coaching in the form of academic supervision given to teachers to improve their ability to run a quality learning process. Guidance to the teacher's essence is an act of giving assistance to improve his ability in running the learning process. The reason for coaching is given to the teacher is that the ability of the teacher must always be improved especially in the techniques related to the learning process that must be executed. The failure of teachers in the learning process is more due to the ability of teachers who are still low in the science of teaching. It may be that the teacher has had enough qualifications or even master's degrees, but is still weak in his teaching. So the ability of teachers in running a quality learning process is still low. Suharsimi Arikunto asserted that the main activity of supervision is to provide guidance to the school/madrasah in general and especially to the teachers for better learning quality, which in turn improves students' learning achievement. in the Government Regulation Number 19 Year 2005 on Education Standards specially contained in Chapter IV Article 19 paragraph (3) states that every year education performs planning of learning process, implementation of learning process, assessment of learning activity, and supervision of learning process for the implementation of effective learning process and efficient.

Abstract

One important theme in Arabic science is al-hazfu. This term in Indonesian is called Ellipsis. In our daily reality, there are often people who see that something that is not written or not mentioned in the text means that it is understood as something that does not exist and therefore is also not important. Though it is very possible that it has a very important meaning, even because it is very important, the Mutakallim (speaker) deliberately does not express it explicitly or explicitly with certain purposes. Such expression is one style of language which is considered by one linguist as one of the models of language beauty. Al-Quran as a divine greeting which has the beauty of a very high language is certainly not silent from the language style, meaning that the Qur'an also uses language style in the form of al-hazfu, where many lafaz that even though it is not mentioned, must be understood there, so that understanding of a verse will be more perfect. The style of language in the form of al-hazfu contains secrets that are very urgent to be revealed, so that various forms, places, causes and purposes or their benefits are clearly known. This very simple article is strived to uncover these things although it is also realized that what is described is not silent from various weaknesses and limitations.
