Abstract

Grounded in Self-Determination Theory and Friedman’s Legal System Theory, this study examines the relationships between work recognition (WR), work motivation (WM), career development (CD), employee engagement (EE), and employee performance (EP) among judges in Indonesian District Courts. In addition, this study investigates the mediating role of employee engagement in the relationships between work recognition, work motivation, career development, and employee performance. A quantitative research approach was employed using a questionnaire survey method. Data were collected from 151 judges working in District Courts across Indonesia through online questionnaires distributed via Google Forms. The data were analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) with SmartPLS 4.0 software. The findings revealed that work motivation and career development positively and significantly affect employee performance, whereas work recognition does not have a significant direct effect on employee performance. However, work recognition positively and significantly influences employee engagement. Furthermore, work motivation and career development significantly affect employee engagement, while employee engagement positively and significantly influences employee performance. The mediation analysis also confirmed that employee engagement significantly mediates the relationships between work recognition, work motivation, career development, and employee performance. These findings indicate that organizational support, motivational factors, and career development opportunities are essential in strengthening judges’ engagement, professionalism, and performance within judicial institutions. Therefore, Indonesian District Courts are encouraged to strengthen organizational recognition systems, enhance motivational support, provide sustainable professional development programs, and implement transparent career advancement systems to improve judicial performance and institutional effectiveness.

Abstract

This study aims to assess the relationship between sustainability disclosure and firm performance among companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) ESG Leaders Index during the years 2020 to 2022. The study sample included 54 observations from 18 companies listed on the IDX ESG Leaders Index between 2020 and 2022. Data were gathered from sustainability reports, annual reports, and publicly accessible capital market data. Analysis was conducted using multiple linear regression in Stata IC 15. The link between sustainability disclosure and financial performance is as follows: social factors positively impact financial performance, measured by ROA, while environmental and economic factors have a negative influence. Governance factors, however, do not significantly impact firm performance. Additionally, the link between financial factors and financial performance is as follows: size negatively influence performance, while age and leverage positively impact it. The study's scope is limited to ESG Leaders, comprising only 18 companies, and investigates a three-year period from 2020 to 2022. Therefore, the observations are constrained by this limited sample size and timeframe. The significance of this research lies in its focus on IDX ESG Leaders Companies, and the nuanced examination of the relationships between sustainability factors and financial performance. By exploring these links in a distinctive setting and presenting findings that contrast with broader trends, the study contributes valuable insights for policymakers.

Abstract

Introduction/Objectives: Critical thinking skills are one of the essential competencies in 21st-century learning that need to be developed through active, reflective, and student-centered learning processes. However, classroom learning practices are still predominantly dominated by conventional learning, resulting in the suboptimal development of students' critical thinking skills. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the comparison between the implementation of the Deep Learning approach and conventional learning in improving students' critical thinking skills at SMAN 6 Balikpapan. Methods: This study employed a quantitative approach using a quasi-experimental method with a pretest-posttest control group design . The research sample consisted of Grade XI IPAS students divided into an experimental class and a control class. The experimental class received treatment using the Deep Learning approach, while the control class used conventional learning. Data collection techniques included critical thinking tests, observations, and documentation. Data analysis was conducted using descriptive statistics, Shapiro-Wilk normality test, Levene homogeneity test, N-Gain analysis, and Independent Sample T-Test with the assistance of IBM SPSS Statistics software. Results and Discussion: The results showed that students' critical thinking skills improved after the implementation of both Deep Learning and conventional learning. The N-Gain analysis indicated that the experimental class achieved higher improvement than the control class. However, the results of the Independent Sample T-Test revealed that there was no significant difference between students' critical thinking skills in the class implementing the Deep Learning approach and the class using conventional learning. The findings indicate that the implementation of the Deep Learning approach requires time, student readiness, consistency in learning implementation, and supportive learning environments to provide a more optimal impact on students' critical thinking skills. Conclusion: The Deep Learning approach has the potential to support the development of students' critical thinking skills through active, reflective, and investigative learning processes. Although it did not show a significant effect compared to conventional learning, the Deep Learning approach remains relevant for development in 21st-century learning as an effort to support the enhancement of Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) and the implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum.

Abstract

Indonesia's substantial geothermal potential, particularly at the Ulubelu Geothermal Working Area, offers a strategic opportunity for green hydrogen production by utilizing brine energy that is currently reinjected into wells. This study aims to analyze the techno-economic feasibility of an integrated hydrogen production system at Ulubelu Geothermal Power Plant Units 3 and 4, utilizing Thermoelectric Generator (TEG), Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC), and a combined TEG+ORC configuration to convert brine thermal energy into electricity for powering a Proton Exchange Membrane Electrolyzer (PEME) with a capacity of 1000 kg/day. The methodology includes thermodynamic modeling based on mass, energy, and exergy balance under steady-state conditions, as well as economic investment analysis encompassing Net Present Value (NPV), Internal Rate of Return (IRR), Payback Period (PP), and Levelized Cost of Hydrogen (LCoH) under two electricity price scenarios (0.075 USD/kWh and 0.126 USD/kWh). The results show that cooling tower and PACWP modifications successfully provide 102.94 kg/s of cooling water per unit with an additional power consumption of 88 kW, reducing cooling water temperature from 38.8°C to 28°C and increasing cooling tower exergy efficiency from 94.92% to 98.22%. The PEM electrolyzer system achieves an energy efficiency of 86.6% and an exergy efficiency of 3.4%, producing 1079 kg H₂/day and 8628 kg O₂/day. Economically, the ORC configuration consistently delivers the best performance, with the lowest LCoH of 4.16 USD/kg (at 0.126 USD/kWh) and 5.06 USD/kg (at 0.075 USD/kWh), the highest IRR of 15.51% – 20.31%, and the fastest payback period of 6 – 7 years. In contrast, the TEG+ORC combination yields the highest LCoH (6.9 – 7.73 USD/kg) and the longest payback period (9 – 11 years). It is concluded that the ORC-based brine-to-hydrogen system is the most techno-economically viable option for hydrogen production at the Ulubelu Geothermal Power Plant.

Abstract

This study aims to utilize oil palm sap as a fermentation medium for bacterial cellulose production using Acetobacter xylinum bacteria. The study used a non-factorial Completely Randomized Design (CRD) consisting of two treatments, namely sap tapping from the apical meristem and sap tapping 50 cm from the apical meristem. Parameters observed included membrane thickness, dry weight, weight after distilled water immersion, absorption capacity, and tensile strength of bacterial cellulose membranes. The results showed that sap tapped from the apical meristem produced the highest membrane thickness of 15.8 mm compared to 11.7 mm for sap tapped 50 cm from the apical meristem. ANOVA analysis showed that the tapping treatment significantly affected membrane thickness and weight after distilled water immersion, but had no significant effect on dry weight and absorption capacity of bacterial cellulose. The highest absorption capacity was obtained in the apical meristem treatment at 3.68 g/g, while the 50 cm treatment showed 3.58 g/g. Tensile strength analysis showed that the 50 cm treatment had a higher max stress value of 17.138 MPa compared to 15.919 MPa in the apical meristem treatment, while the apical meristem treatment showed a higher elongation value of 4.110 mm. Based on the results, differences in oil palm sap tapping locations affected the physical and mechanical characteristics of the bacterial cellulose produced.

Abstract

The escalating global environmental crisis reflects not only ecological degradation but also a moral and spiritual decline, making the integration of environmental values into education an essential field of study. Previous studies have widely discussed environmental education and religious-based learning; however, limited research has specifically examined the integration of environmental theology within the framework of spiritual ecology through a love-based curriculum at the elementary education level, particularly in Islamic primary schools. This study seeks to address how environmental theology can be integrated into a love-based curriculum to foster ecological awareness and spiritual responsibility among students. Employing a qualitative approach with a case study design, this research was conducted at MI Arrosidiyah Rejotangan Tulungagung as the locus of study. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and documentation involving the school principal, teachers, students, and curriculum developers selected through purposive sampling. Data analysis followed the Miles and Huberman interactive model, including data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal a novel model of spiritually grounded ecological education that integrates compassion, responsibility, and environmental stewardship into daily learning practices. This study recommends the development of policy frameworks and curriculum guidelines that strengthen the integration of environmental theology and character education, while future research should explore broader implementation contexts and longitudinal impacts.
