Abstract

This study aims to improve problem-solving skills and cognitive learning outcomes of students in mathematics and describe obstacles and solutions through the application of the Discovery Learning model with concrete media in class IIIA SDN 2 Dukuhwaluh. The background of this study is the low ability of students in solving problems and the achievement of cognitive learning outcomes in mathematics that are not optimal because learning is still conventional and does not involve students actively. The method used is Classroom Action Research (CAR) which is carried out in three cycles. Each cycle consists of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection stages. The subjects of this study were 26 students of class IIIA SDN 2 Dukuhwaluh. Data collection techniques used questionnaires and written tests. Data were analyzed descriptively quantitatively and qualitatively. The results of the study showed that the application of the Discovery Learning model with concrete media can improve problem-solving skills and cognitive learning outcomes in mathematics. The average problem-solving skills increased in cycle I = 83.24%, cycle II = 85.16%, and cycle III = 89.08%. The average percentage increase in cognitive learning outcomes in mathematics in cycle I = 76.92%, cycle II = 84.62%, and cycle III = 92.31%. This increase shows that the use of the Discovery Learning model with concrete media is effective in helping students understand the material in depth and actively solve problems. The obstacles found were the lack of initial understanding of students towards the problem and limited time in exploration. The solutions carried out include more intensive guidance for each group. The conclusion is that the application of the Discovery Learning Model with concrete media can improve Problem Solving Skills and Cognitive Learning Outcomes in Mathematics in Class IIIA Students of SDN 2 Dukuhwaluh.

Abstract

Interpersonal intelligence is fundamental for children. However, in a broken home, children are very likely to be distorted from the potential to get direction and assistance so that the development of their interpersonal intelligence is optimal. As a result, children's interpersonal intelligence in broken home families can become an anomaly, because children have the potential to become victims. Elementally, this research method uses interviews and in-depth observations, so that every aspect can be read comprehensively. Furthermore, it is also supported by trans-perspective analysis in order to analyze how the sublimation of interpersonal intelligence in broken home families, which is also the purpose of the research. The projection of the findings of this study is that if you surrender to the situation and are passive to reality, a broken family can affect children's interpersonal intelligence. The implication is that children become asocial individuals, moody, not enthusiastic about learning and avoid social interaction.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze the phonological adaptation patterns in the pronunciation of English brand names by native speakers of Indonesian, Japanese, and Korean. This study distinct from the phenomenon of globalization and the expantion of international brands, which provide phonological issues, Particulary when foreign words must be adapted to the phonological system of the mother tongue (L1). by Using a qualitative approach and descriptive phonological analysis, the data were collected from the pronunciation of famous brands by speakers from the three language groups. The findings indicate that segmental and suprasegmental adaptations are heavily influenced by the phonotactic structure of each L1. Japanese and Korean speakers typically use epenthesis and simplify segments to maintain the dominant CV syllable structure, whereas Indonesian speakers are more flexsible and frequently to keep the original sounds Furthermore, stress and intonation in speech show changes that match L1 prosody patterns. Sociolinguistic factors such as brand proximity also influence the level of adaption. This research increases the understanding of pronunciation variance in the context of World Englishes and gives implications for foreign language pronunciation education as well as interlingual phonology studies.

Abstract

In recent years, pop songs have become increasingly popular as a tool to motivate students in learning English, particularly among younger learners. This study explores how new students in the English Education Program at Universitas Kuningan perceive the use of pop songs in supporting their motivation and language development. Specifically, the research investigates how pop songs influence students’ enthusiasm, what language skills they believe are improved through music, and which types of songs are most effective in boosting motivation. Using a qualitative method, data were gathered through open-ended questionnaires completed by ten first-year students. Their responses were then analyzed thematically to identify common patterns and insights. The results show that most students responded positively, saying that pop songs made learning English more enjoyable, less boring, and emotionally engaging. Many reported noticeable progress in vocabulary, pronunciation, and listening skills, along with greater confidence in speaking English. Songs with slower tempos, clear pronunciation, and relatable themes particularly those by popular artists such as Taylor Swift, Coldplay, and BTS, were seen as especially motivating. Although some students mentioned challenges like slang or fast-paced lyrics, they generally viewed these as opportunities to improve rather than barriers. Overall, the study concludes that pop songs meet students’ psychological needs for autonomy, competence, and relatedness, aligning with the principles of Self-Determination Theory. As such, pop songs can be considered an effective and informal strategy to enhance both motivation and language skills in English learning.

Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to develop and examine the effectiveness of an educational game as a learning medium for mathematics, specifically on algebra material, in improving the mathematical problem-solving abilities of seventh-grade students. The research method used was Research and Development (R&D) with the ADDIE model, which includes the stages of Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. The research subjects consisted of two classes: the experimental class, which used the educational game, and the control class, which used conventional lecture methods. The validation results show that the developed educational game has a high level of validity. Validation by material experts obtained an average score of 80% (valid), while validation by media experts reached 88.5% (very valid). The attractiveness test involving teachers and students showed highly positive results, with an average score from mathematics teachers of 94.3%, a small group trial result of 90.2%, and a field trial result of 84.71% (all categorized as very attractive). The effectiveness of the game was analyzed using the N-Gain test. The results showed that the average N-Gain in the experimental class was 0.73 (high category), while the control class only reached 0.46 (medium category). This indicates that using educational games is more effective in improving students' mathematical problem-solving abilities than conventional lecture methods. Students who used the educational game demonstrated improvement in all indicators of problem-solving ability, such as understanding the problem, planning a solution, carrying out the plan, and reviewing the result. Therefore, the educational game developed in this study is proven to be valid and effective as a learning medium for mathematics, particularly in algebra. The use of educational games can serve as an innovative alternative to enhance students' mathematical problem-solving skills.
