Abstract

The issuance of the Regulation of the Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Number 12 of 2024 officially establishes the Merdeka Curriculum as the national curriculum, effective from the 2024/2025 academic year. A notable innovation of this curriculum is the integration of Natural Sciences (IPA) and Social Sciences (IPS) into a single subject called Integrated Natural and Social Sciences (IPAS), distinguishing it from previous curricular frameworks. Despite this advancement, the implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum, particularly in the context of IPAS instruction, has not yet fully achieved its intended objectives. This study aims to examine the implementation process, challenges encountered, and educational impacts of the Merdeka Curriculum in IPAS learning, grounded in its core principles. Utilizing a qualitative descriptive methodology, the research was conducted with Grade III teachers and students at SDN 2 Lemahabang. Data collection methods included observation, interviews, and document analysis, with data processed through reduction, display, and conclusion drawing techniques. Triangulation of sources and methods was employed to ensure data validity. Findings reveal that the implementation of IPAS within the Merdeka Curriculum framework is still partially misaligned with its foundational principles. Primary challenges involve time limitations during instruction and assessment phases, compounded by large class sizes. Nevertheless, the adoption of this curriculum has produced positive outcomes for both educators and learners.

Abstract

This study aims to improve the mathematical problem-solving ability of third-grade elementary school students through the implementation of the Teaching at the Right Level (TaRL) approach. This research was conducted as Classroom Action Research (CAR) over two cycles during the second semester of the 2024/2025 academic year. The study was carried out collaboratively between a classroom teacher and university supervisor to design, implement, and evaluate the learning process. The subjects were third-grade elementary students with varying levels of understanding in basic mathematical concepts, particularly in arithmetic and simple problem solving. Instruments used in the study included teacher and student observation sheets, student worksheets (LKPD), lesson plans (RPP), and pre- and post-tests to measure student abilities. The TaRL approach was implemented by grouping students according to their level of understanding and providing appropriate materials and activities for each level. This strategy ensured that students were not forced to follow lessons that were too difficult or too easy for them. Data analysis was conducted using narrative description for qualitative data and descriptive statistics for quantitative data. The results showed a significant increase in students' ability to solve mathematical problems. The average score in the pre-test was 28.56, which increased to 81.80 by the end of cycle II. This indicates that the TaRL approach is highly effective in helping third-grade students better understand and confidently engage with mathematical material. It can be concluded that the Teaching at the Right Level (TaRL) approach is a suitable solution for addressing learning gaps in lower grades and can create a more enjoyable and ability-appropriate learning environment for each child.

Abstract

Indonesia as a multicultural country consisting of various ethnicities, religions, races and cultures faces great challenges in building social harmony amidst inherent differences. Multicultural education exists as a strategic approach in responding to this challenge by instilling the values of tolerance, respect for differences and social justice from an early age. This article examines the role of multicultural education in the Indonesian national context, by highlighting inclusive educational policies, curricula and pedagogical practices in the school environment. The method used is a literature review with a descriptive qualitative approach. The results of the study show that the consistent implementation of multicultural education can strengthen national identity, reduce the potential for horizontal conflict, and create space for healthy dialogue between communities. However, challenges still arise in the form of cultural resistance, minimal teacher training, and limited adaptive curriculum. Therefore, synergy is needed between the government, educators and society in creating harmony in diversity through a humanist and transformative education system.

Abstract

English proficiency plays a critical role in global communication, especially in education and entertainment. One effective method to enhance speaking and pragmatic competence is through the use of English movies. This study aims to analyze speech acts in The Hunger Games movie using the theories of J.L. Austin and John Searle. A qualitative approach was employed to identify and categorize various types of speech acts such as assertive, directive, commissive, expressive, and declarative acts. In addition to these classifications, the analysis also considers Austin’s tripartite framework of speech acts: locutionary acts (the literal meaning of utterances), illocutionary acts (the speaker’s intention), and perlocutionary acts (the effect on the listener). The findings revealed that assertive and directive acts were most dominant. This research contributes to a deeper understanding of pragmatics in cinematic dialogue and highlights how language use in movies can aid learners in developing both linguistic and sociocultural competence.
