Abstract

Depictions of people's lives not only occur in the real world, but are also found in literary works. One of the literary works that presents stories about life through writing is a novel, such as the novel entitled Malioboro at Midnight by Skysphire. In the novel Malioboro at Midnight by Skysphire, there are activities carried out by the characters, namely social actions. The main characteristics of social action are the target of sociological research. Therefore, this research aims to describe in depth and obtain an objective picture of the main characteristics of social action in the novel Malioboro at Midnight by Skysphire. The research method used is descriptive qualitative. The research approach is a combination of two fields of study, namely literary sociology. The research was carried out through several stages, including data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results obtained in this research are (1) actions that have subjective meaning, namely positive and negative assumptions, (2) actions that are mental and subjective, namely feelings of anger that dominate, (3) actions that have a positive influence, namely the application of social values. which is beneficial to other people and gives inner satisfaction to the perpetrator, (4) the action is directed at other people to get a response, namely rational, instrumental and affective action, and (5) the action is a response, namely affective action. So, it can be concluded that sociological aspects in the form of the main characteristics of social action can be described objectively in literary works.

Abstract

This research examines two Dayak Kanayatn folktales from Landak Regency, West Kalimantan, namely “Anak Sabalah” and “Arum Beristri Tuan Bungsu Anak Raja”. The purpose of this research is to find the storytelling environment, structure, and meaning of the story of "Anak Sabalah" and to find the storytelling environment, structure, and meaning of the story of "Arum Beristri Tuan Bungsu Anak Raja", the Dayak folklore of Kanayatn. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, the study focuses on the storytelling environment, structure, and meaning of the tales. Data were gathered through document analysis and interviews, then validated by prolonged observation, triangulation, and referential adequacy. The results show that the stories are conveyed through narrative and dialogue in a traditional community, highlighting changes in character functions due to broken promises and the predominance of goodness that ultimately prevails. The meanings of the two tales involve humans relationship with God (faith in Jubata and destiny), with others (mutual giving and deliberation), with oneself (determination, humility, courage), and with nature (mutual dependence). Based on these findings, it is recommended to preserve the folktales, utilize local wisdom in regional policy-making, and incorporate them as teaching material for fantasy (folktale) texts in seventh-grade junior high school classes.

Abstract

This study examines the issue of teacher professionalism in Indonesia’s border areas, which still face significant disparities compared to urban regions. Using a qualitative approach through library research, this article analyzes the current conditions, challenges, and strategies for strengthening teacher professionalism in 3T areas (frontier, outermost, disadvantaged regions). The findings indicate that teachers in border areas encounter structural, geographical, socio-cultural, and psychosocial barriers, ranging from unequal teacher distribution, limited incentives, inadequate school facilities, to weak community support. Government programs such as SM-3T, Frontline Teacher (GGD), and the National Teacher Distribution System (SPGN) have been implemented, yet their effectiveness remains limited. Non-governmental initiatives and educational technology innovations present opportunities, but digital infrastructure and literacy gaps remain major challenges. This study highlights the need to strengthen teacher professionalism through a holistic approach that integrates government policies, local community participation, philanthropic support, and contextualized digital innovations. Such an approach is essential not only for improving educational quality and equity but also for reinforcing national resilience in border regions.

Abstract

This study was designed to address the issue of low active participation and learning outcomes among sixth-grade students at MIN III Pontianak in the IPAS subject through the implementation of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model. The background for this research was the persistence of a teacher-centered learning process, which led to suboptimal student engagement. Applying the Classroom Action Research (CAR) methodology based on the Kemmis and McTaggart model, this study was carried out over two cycles involving 35 participants. Data collected through observations and tests indicated significant progress: student learning activity increased from 65% in the first cycle to 85% in the second cycle. Meanwhile, the rate of classical learning mastery also jumped from 45.71% to 82.86%. Consequently, it was concluded that the PBL model is an appropriate instructional solution for tackling the problem of low student involvement and for shifting the learning paradigm towards a more active and student-centered approach in elementary education. It is recommended that teachers, particularly at the elementary level, adopt the PBL model to create participatory learning while actively assuming the role of facilitators to ensure equitable engagement from all students. This implementation would be more effective with support from the school administration through facilitating training and providing relevant learning resources. Furthermore, for future researchers, there is an opportunity to develop this study by investigating the impact of PBL more deeply on higher-order thinking skills or by testing it in the contexts of different subjects and educational levels to broaden the validity of the findings.

Abstract

Local wisdom constitutes a mandatory content component within the arts and culture curriculum at every level of the educational system. This study aims to describe the implementation of local wisdom within the Merdeka Curriculum at elementary schools in Kubu Raya Regency. Local wisdom, as a source of cultural values, serves as a foundation for character formation and as a contextual learning resource. The Merdeka Curriculum, with its flexible framework, provides opportunities for schools to integrate local wisdom values into the learning process. This research employed a qualitative method with a descriptive-interpretative approach. Data were analyzed using an interactive analysis model involving data reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that the potential for applying local wisdom in local elementary schools remains abundant. However, the limited competence of classroom teachers in understanding local wisdom has become a major obstacle in its implementation. The integration of local wisdom is influenced by teachers’ competence, school support, and community involvement. Among the three research subjects, one teacher implemented local wisdom in a planned manner, one did so unintentionally, and one did not apply it at all. It can be concluded that the application of local wisdom in cultural arts learning at the elementary level has not been fully optimized. Therefore, stronger educational policy support is required, particularly through teacher training and collaboration with local communities, to ensure that regional cultural values continue to be instilled as part of character education for students.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the formation and manifestation of habitus within the Qadiriyah wa Naqsyabandiyah (TQN) community in Sambas, emphasizing three main dimensions: education, ethics, and locality. This study uses Pierre Bourdieu's Habitus Theory as the primary analytical framework to understand the dialectical relationship between the social structure of the order and the religious actions of its members. The approach used is qualitative with an ethnographic case study design. Data were collected through participant observation during dhikr (remembrance) and religious study activities, in-depth interviews with mursyid (spiritual guides) and active TQN members, and documentation of teaching texts and socio-religious activities. Data analysis was conducted using the Miles and Huberman interactive model, which includes data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results show that the habitus of TQN members is formed through an educational process that instills the values of adab (adab), spiritual discipline, and emotional closeness to the mursyid. Ethics such as tawadhu' (religious tolerance), ikhlas (sincerity), and patience become moral dispositions internalized in the religious practices and social lives of the members. On the other hand, Sambas Malay cultural values provide a local context that reinforces religious symbols, language, and meaning within the community. This study fills a gap in previous research, which rarely integrates Bourdieu's concept of habitus with the dynamics of local Islamic traditions, providing a theoretical contribution to understanding how spiritual education interacts with the cultural context in shaping religious identity. Thus, the habitus of the Sambas TQN is a synthesis of the tarekat's spiritual structure, Islamic ethical values, and local cultural wisdom, forming a model of religious education and a distinctive social character of Malay Islam.

Abstract

Brain rot refers to the habitual consumption of short, fast, and repetitive digital content that prioritizes entertainment over meaningful cognitive engagement. This pattern is widely found on platforms such as TikTok, YouTube Shorts, and Instagram Reels, particularly among vocational high school students. This study examines the relationship between brain rot content consumption and learning concentration at SMKN 1 Belimbing. Using a quantitative correlational design, data were collected from 150 students through validated questionnaires. Statistical analysis using the Pearson Product-Moment test showed a moderate and significant correlation between brain rot consumption and decreased learning concentration (r = 0.464, p < 0.01). The coefficient of determination (R² = 0.215) indicates that 21.5% of the variation in learning concentration is explained by students’ consumption of brain rot content. These findings demonstrate that excessive exposure to short-form entertainment content plays a meaningful role in reducing students’ ability to sustain focus. The study contributes to the growing understanding of digital behavior’s cognitive impact in vocational education and highlights the importance of digital literacy and regulated social media use. Future research should consider additional variables such as motivation, mental health, and family support to provide a more comprehensive explanation of factors influencing learning concentration.

Abstract

This study aims to find out the ability to think critically, descriptive writing skills, and the relationship between the two in grade V students of SD Negeri 12 Sungai Kunyit. The type of research used is quantitative research with a correlational method. The research sample amounted to 30 students who were selected in total sampling. The research instruments are in the form of a critical thinking test and a descriptive writing test. Data analysis was carried out by descriptive test and Pearson correlation test with the help of SPSS. The results showed that the average score of students' critical thinking ability was 72.40 with a standard deviation of 13,372, while the average score of descriptive writing skills was 68.90 with a standard deviation of 13,762. The normality test showed a significance value of > 0.05, so that the data of the two variables were distributed normally. Pearson's correlation analysis showed a coefficient value of 0.983 with a significance of 0.000, which means that there is a very strong and significant positive relationship between critical thinking skills and descriptive writing skills. Thus, it can be concluded that the higher the student's critical thinking ability, the higher descriptive writing skills they have. This research provides the implication that the development of writing skills needs to be integrated with learning strategies that foster students' critical thinking skills.
