Abstract

This article examines a community service program aimed at fostering the mental and spiritual development of Muslim children living in the peripheral area of Bogor. The program was initiated in response to limited educational access, inadequate learning facilities, and the insufficient training and welfare of teachers in the area. This study employed a descriptive qualitative approach and was conducted at PAUD Nibrosu Lamhariyah (NILAM), located in Cibeuteung Muara Village, Ciseeng District, Bogor Regency. The program was carried out over a four-month period, involving four teachers and forty-two students divided into two age groups. The learning activities focused on religious education through the Tilawati method for Qur’anic reading and the talaqqi method for tahfidz or memorization. The findings indicate that the program contributed positively to the children’s religious learning outcomes. Around 90% of the students were able to follow the lessons and read qira’ati properly, while 85% were able to memorize up to four short surahs, short hadiths, and ablution prayers along with their practice. These results suggest that structured religious guidance can effectively support the spiritual development of early childhood learners in marginalized communities. However, the implementation of the program still faced several challenges, including limited infrastructure, insufficient financial support, and inadequate attention to teacher welfare in peripheral educational settings.

Abstract

Islamic Higher Education Institutions (PTKI) play a pivotal role not only as centers of academic excellence but also as cultural brokers responsible for maintaining Islamic moderation and ethical values in society. However, measuring the socio-religious impact of PTKI graduates in the public sphere remains a significant challenge; current data shows that only 16.6% of PTKI alumni are traceable. This gap is largely due to the absence of a comprehensive tracer study model tailored to the unique socio-religious mission of PTKI. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, this study analyzes tracer study documents and interviews key informants from career centers across Indonesian higher education institutions. The findings reveal that current tracer implementations are often heavily administrative and structurally constrained. Therefore, this study recommends a robust, integrated tracer study management model for PTKI—encompassing clear national policies, institutional support, and synergistic IT data systems. By establishing this infrastructure, PTKI can utilize the tracer study not merely as an administrative tool for accreditation or employment tracking, but as a strategic instrument to accurately measure the socio-religious impact, ethical contributions, and cultural relevance of its graduates in the wider community.

Abstract

Access to higher education for people with disabilities still faces structural and multidimensional barriers, as access does not stop at student admission but encompasses academic access, support services, information, and campus social participation. This study aims to map the main barriers and directions for improving higher education access policies for people with disabilities by referring to the non-discrimination and reasonable accommodation mandates in the CRPD. The method used is qualitative research based on document studies through thematic analysis of normative documents and authoritative reports (CRPD, OECD), as well as evidence of national and cross-country educational inequality (UNICEF Indonesia, World Bank). The results show that access to higher education is influenced by (1) uneven support and accommodation across institutions, which often makes meeting needs dependent on campus capacity; and (2) pipeline issues resulting from inequalities at previous levels, marked by low participation and graduation rates for groups with disabilities, thus narrowing opportunities to advance to higher education. These findings emphasize the need for an integrated access policy through minimum standardization of academic accommodations, strengthening disability service units, simplifying support procedures, and transition strategies from secondary education to higher education so that equal access can be achieved sustainably.

Abstract

This research aims to trace the ideas of iconoclasm that have grown within the Islamic tradition. It is motivated by the relationship between religion and icons, which has sparked considerable debate. On one hand, there are some religions that consider icons a legitimate element in their religious tradition, a practice known as iconodulism. On the other hand, there are religions that take the opposite stance, rejecting, prohibiting, or even condemning the use or production of icons within their religious tradition, a practice known as iconoclasm. In the context of Islam, some argue that iconoclastic movements are often directed at specific groups as a purification effort. However, upon closer examination, many dominant traditions within Islam have elements of iconoclasm: Allah is symbolized through the concept of Asma` al-Husna or depicted through calligraphic art; the visualization of Prophet Muhammad has been a controversial subject, leading to an evolution that is symbolized through light or calligraphy. There is also a stigma attached to painting and sculpture in this context. Why does Islamic tradition prefer symbols over icons?.

Abstract

Gereja Hati Kudus Tuhan Yesus (GHKTY) provides a resource for intercultural learning, particularly in the teaching of Indonesian as a Foreign Language (BIPA). In this paper, we have examined the culture and practices of Javanese Catholics in Ganjuran and what it means for BIPA teachers to teach them in this context. The study was conducted with a qualitative approach based on ethnography and participant observation, in-depth interviews, and documents from liturgical archives. The results show that Javanese Catholicism in Ganjuran is a kind of living folklore that combines faith and culture in the form of performative acts, architectural symbols, and oral tradition. Theoretically, this study extends the notion of folklore performance as an inculturative process that involves theology, culture, and pedagogy. Methodologically, it highlights the importance of focused ethnography for the study of religious folklore. Practically, Ganjuran is a cultural learning site where faith, language, and identity come together in a culture-shaping, theo-cultural environment.

Abstract

This study examines the claim burial sites of Sheikh Siti Jenar, a mysterious figure in Javanese history, analyzed from the perspective of social structure and collective memory from Javanese. The importance of this research is the fact from the narrative of Sheikh Siti Jenar continues to shape religious authority, pilgrimage patterns, and understandings of Islamic history. Using a qualitative, this study combines analysis of historical documents, ethnographic observation, and semi-structured interviews with local communities, custodians of sites, and religious leaders about the burial sites of Sheikh Siti Jenar. The results demonstrate that the distribution of Siti Jenar's burial sites is not simply a historically contested phenomenon, but rather a socially constructed reality that emerges from tensions related to religious authority, local cultural traditions, politics, and economics within the pilgrimage tradition. The tombs function simultaneously as centers of spiritual power and sites where historical meanings are continually forged and contested. The study finds that sacred spaces in Java are subject to change, social (not historical) productions, and calls for more critical and inclusive methods in the preservation and interpretation of Islamic sites, particularly sacred tombs, to allow for the coexistence of different narratives.

Abstract

This research diverges from the phenomenon that occurs in the community of Muara Karang Village, which is undoubtedly influenced by the religious beliefs they hold. These beliefs are derived from the Qur'an and the Hadith of the Prophet, which form the interaction of society with the Qur'an. The text of the Qur'an is used as a practice in the execution of traditions. The purpose of this investigation is to portray the tradition of the Lintang community of Muara Karang Village, Pendopo District, Empat Lawang Regency, which utilizes the Qur'an as its foundation for the traditional procession of "Numpang Sedekah" in the Lintang Community of Muara Karang Village, Empat Lawang Regency. This investigation is a field study that employs a phenomenological approach and a living Al-Qur'an. The data were collected through direct observation (participatory observation), literature studies, and documentation. Qualitative analysis techniques were employed to analyze the data, both inductively and deductively. The findings of this investigation indicate that the "Numpang Sedekah" tradition in the Muara Karang Village Community is a reception of the first and second verses of Surah al-Kautsar in the Qur'an. This tradition was established in the community as a gesture of gratitude for the favors that have been bestowed, including sustenance and success in achieving desired objectives. As a result, the local community conducts a thanksgiving or almsgiving ceremony at the family home.

Partnerships between educational institutions and parents are crucial in building a supportive environment for the academic and non-academic successes of students. This study aims to describe the organization and development of school-parent collaborations by SD Muhammadiyah 4 Surabaya (Mudipat), one of the prominent Islamic elementary schools, to improve student achievement. The research employed a qualitative methodology and a case study framework to gather data through in-depth interviews, document analysis, and observations. Data analysis was performed using the following methods: data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings present that strategic school-parent partnerships at Mudipat are based on well-articulated principles like internal solidarity, prioritization of systems over individuals, commitment and consistency, contribution, satisfaction, social responsibility, responsiveness to the needs of the school, and utilization of networks. The principles are operationalized through practices such as the Muhammadiyah Parents Association (IKWAM), which involves parents at the personal and institutional levels in the school's decision-making process, ensuring transparency in management, and providing the best services to students and parents. The study concludes that well-managed strategic school-parent partnerships significantly enhance support for students' academic and non-academic success.
