Abstract

Abstract

One of the causes of environmental disasters that have occurred lately is the conversion of forest areas that occur in upstream areas of the river flow. Like in the protected forest area of Darajat, Garut Regency, the conversion of functions of the forest area into horticultural land is rapid and massive. This causes environmental damage, environmental pollution and prone to natural disasters such as landslides and forest fires. With the decreasing capacity of forest resources, a comprehensive, participatory and sustainable forest area management system is needed with a partnership approach, economic development, environmental sustainability and involving stakeholders. Multistakeholder Collaborative Forest Management through the development of Agroforestry Organic coffee is one alternative in reducing forest area conversion, enhancing environmental conservation and reducing the risk of natural disasters. The integrated and integrated program starts from an inventory of natural & forest resources, mapping the socio-economic conditions of forest village communities, joint planning of forest area management by involving the Forest Village Community Institute (LMDH) and stakeholders, implementing community-based environmental management awareness programs, implementing rehabilitation and conservation on critical land through commodity transfer location and transfer of profession. Technical and social assistance, Monitoring and evaluation together and periodically as well as securing forest areas together. All of that was done to restore the function of the forest area to sustainable forests and disaster preparedness.

Abstract

Palembang is one of the areas in Indonesia that is known to have culinary tastes that are distinctive and delicious. The capital city of South Sumatra Province has a very diverse culinary wealth. Kemplang Palembang Fish Crackers is one of the traditional Palembang food with fish and tapioca flour as its ingredients. At this time many fish kemplang makers still use traditional methods using brass pirikan, with a large variety of holes at the bottom. This phenomenon is also carried out by DPTM program partners, namely Partners (1) Kemplang cracker business "Lebak keranji; Partners (2) Kemplang Crackers Business "Matahari 222" on the Lunjuk Jaya Bukit Besar street in Palembang. Some of the obstacles faced by the kemplang cracker business to 2 (two) partners were a problem when the process of making pieces of several types of crackers was still using traditional and still very simple printing tools made from hand knives. The absence of an automatic cutting machine that can calculate the amount of production and can be monitored online for cutting logs of kemplang fish crackers so that it requires a large number of craftsmen and takes a long time. To overcome this problem it is deemed necessary for machines to print and cut kemplang crackers using automatic machines using an Internet of Things based microcontroller.

Abstract

Citrus X sinensis plants are one of the main products of Petungsewu Village, Malang Regency. So far, partners (citrus farmers) have relied on rainwater by using rainfed systems to irrigate their crops. Problems arise during dry season because limited water making watering or spraying become difficult. As a result plants are only able to produce fruits once a year while the same plants in other lands with good irrigation can produce fruits twice. To overcome the problem of limited water, it is determined to have a 4x6x2 m3 water reservoir as an water storage area for rainfed systems. While to control water usage when watering uses a cliff system using the Internet of Things (IoT) technology. In addition, to provide water storage, this activity also built a shelter on the reservoir and toilets. Because of the unavailability of electrical energy sources, this activity also provides renewable energy sources that contain solar panel energy. The watering system is carried out automatically using a soil moisture sensor if the humidity is less than 70%, so that the valve will open and the water flows. On the other hand, if the humidity is greater or equal to 70%, the valve will be closed. With the existence of this activity, partners can do automatic watering of plants during dry season, and citrus plants can produce fruits twice in a year

Abstract

During the past decade there has emerged, in North America and Western Europe in particular, a fairly powerful movement to improve the social and environmental performance of large corporations and their affiliates and suppliers in developing countries. By examining the case of Indonesia, this paper looks at how effective this approach has been. Two central questions are addressed. First, do corporate social responsibility (CSR) and accompanying voluntary initiatives have the capacity to change the day-to-day behaviour of TNCs? Second, at this stage of its development, and in the context of crisis, is corporate social responsibility relevant to Indonesia? The discussion on codes of conduct presents both civil society and TNC perspectives on the implementation, achievements and limitations of such initiatives, codes are fundamentally flawed for several reasons: they may serve to place corporations outside of the national regulatory system and bypass the tripartite negotiation system that was one of the major labour reforms of recent years; the process and outcomes of monitoring are usually confidential; monitors usually only see one or two plants chosen by the client; monitoring is often done by accounting firms that have insufficient technical knowledge to deal with the often complex health and safety problems in production plants; sanctions for non-compliance are weak or non-existent; codes are usually designed in the head office, and rarely in consultation with trade unions or others; codes with lower technical specificity are often found in enterprises that are female dominated; codes only apply to a small proportion of a nation’s workers; and corporations often insist that affiliates and sub-contractors improve conditions but provide limited if any resources to support such change. When viewed in the context of culture, economic and political development, and turmoil in Indonesia, the author concludes that CSR remains an ideal. The current transformation is bringing instability, fear and violence. In such a context, it is hard to consider something as abstract as CSR. It is timely, however, to begin to put into place the institutions, educational foundations and management training which are needed for business and political reform, and from which CSR may be a spin-off. Any broader application of CSR needs to stem from an indigenous belief in the necessity of such an institution and not represent a mere shrug to another Western fashion. There is clearly a tension between those in the developing countries who see this as yet another imposition of Western values, no matter how attractive, and those in the developed nations who, put cynically perhaps, wish to consume with a conscience. While it is fair to say that CSR makes a positive contribution to the human rights of those working in TNCs, it is also fair to say that it only makes a difference to those few corporations targeted by consumers or who are already thinking ethically and responsibly. Other industries are not so well inclined. Such anomalies, and the somewhat piecemeal approach of the CSR movement, should alert global citizens to the need for a more systematic approach. That being said, the after-shock of the Indonesian economic crisis has required a re-evaluation of both economic and investment policy, and the way business is run in Indonesia. The previous short-term thinking may have to make way for the type of longer-term pragmatic and visionary thinking required by genuine CSR and supported by Islamic business principles. A lot will depend on how deep the reform process goes. There is a danger, however, that CSR and voluntary initiatives may be a diversion from the real issues of law reform and multilevel political and social development. While CSR may benefit a small minority of Indonesia's workers and those whose lives intersect with TNCs, the development of and adherence to a fair system of law and institutional reform would benefit all. Without such changes, CSR is likely to remain cosmetic.
