Abstract

Christian teenagers Jabodetabek, like teenagers in general, are vulnerable to internet addiction. The type of parenting style from parents plays an important role in determining the level of internet addiction of adolescents. This study aims to identify differences in the level of internet addiction based on the type of parenting style among Christian adolescents in Greater Jakarta. A total of 291 adolescents participated in this study. This study uses two instruments, namely the Internet Addiction Test (IAT) to measure the level of internet addiction and the Parenting Style Inventory-II (PSI-II) to identify the type of parenting style of parents. The results showed that neglectful parenting was associated with higher rates of internet addiction in adolescents. In contrast, authoritative and permissive parenting, which has a higher level of responsiveness, tends to be associated with lower rates of internet addiction. These findings show the importance of responsive parenting in preventing internet addiction in adolescents.

Abstract

Films featuring scenes of the expulsion of evil powers have been widely published to provide entertainment to the public, while also showcasing certain values within the narrative they visualize. One horror genre film that has garnered considerable interest is "The Nun I and II." These films depict the struggle of several priests attempting to expel the evil spirit named Valak. There are several scenes showing how the characters in the film beseech God for strength to defeat the dark power of Valak. The exorcism narrative depicted in these films offers several points of interest to be examined from a biblical perspective. Speaking of exorcism, the Gospel of Mark also presents several stories of exorcism performed by Jesus against evil spirits. This paper compares the exorcism narrative portrayed in "The Nun I and II" with the exorcism narrative performed by Jesus in the Gospel of Mark, as recounted in Mark 1:21-28. The purpose of the comparison presented in this paper is to demonstrate the relevance (similarities) and irrelevance (differences) of the concept of exorcism as portrayed in both "The Nun I and II" and Mark 1:21-28, enabling one to identify which points align and which do not align with the latter as one of the texts describing exorcism performed by Jesus.

Abstract

This study addresses the challenges faced by adolescents aged 9-14 during puberty, including physical, emotional, and psychological changes. Many adolescents struggle to maintain morality in accordance with their faith-based values. Psalm 119:9 poses the question of how a young person can keep their way pure, providing a foundation for a biblical approach to help adolescents navigate the turbulence of puberty. The purpose of this study is to explore the application of a biblical approach based on Psalm 119:9 in addressing the issues of puberty. The study offers theological and practical perspectives for parents, teachers, and church leaders in guiding adolescents. The research method used is a literature review with a qualitative approach and biblical text analysis, specifically of Psalm 119:9. Surveys and interviews with parents, religious teachers, and adolescents were conducted to gather empirical data on the application of biblical principles. The findings indicate that a deep understanding of Psalm 119:9 helps adolescents align their behavior with biblical teachings. This approach can serve as an effective tool in helping adolescents maintain moral integrity amidst modern challenges. In conclusion, the biblical approach based on Psalm 119:9 is relevant in guiding adolescents through puberty and reinforcing their morality according to Christian faith teachings.

Abstract

One of the most controversial texts in the history of biblical interpretation relating to women's participation in church teaching and leadership is 1 Timothy 2:11-12. This text is seen as completely inconsistent with the total testimony of the NT. The Complementarian group used this text as the basis for prohibiting women from teaching and leading in the church. Meanwhile, the Egalitarian group believes that Paul's statement in 1 Timothy 2:11-12 is not a manual for church order that must be applied universally to limit women's ministry in all times and places. This research analyzes the text of 1 Timothy 2:11-12 regarding the debate on women's leadership in the church. The method used is exegesis, with the aim of finding meaning according to the original author's intentions when the text was written. The results of this research found that there are certain women who have exercised authority with dominance that demeans men. For that reason, Paul instructed certain women not to teach and command men.

Abstract

The characteristics of effective pastoral service, as outlined in 1 Peter 5:1-4, entail that pastors are expected to serve as role models for the congregation. Peter expresses hope that these shepherds will be good leaders for the existing flock. Rather than following behind their sheep, pastors are to lead them. The objective of this research is to enable congregation leaders at the Pentecostal Church in Indonesia Zion Altar Malang (hereafter referred to as GPdI Zion Altar Malang) to implement the service characteristics of pastoral care according to 1 Peter 5:1-4. This is prompted by the suboptimal nature of the service characteristics of pastors in their oversight of local churches. The research, conducted using qualitative methods, involved data collection from several participants, including pastors and supporting servants involved in pastoral care at GPdI Zion Altar Malang. The findings of the research revealed issues such as poorly organized financial management, suboptimal implementation of teaching programs, and exacerbated by the absence of counselling services for congregation members grappling with issues in their faith journey. Pastors acknowledge the necessity of enhancing competency to realize the characteristics of pastoral care in accordance with God’s Word, particularly as outlined in 1 Peter 5:1-4, for the spiritual growth of congregation members.

Abstract

Matthew 28:18-20 is unique material from Matthew that is not found in other synoptic gospels. Considering the political situation under Roman imperialism and the initial recipients' Jewish background, it is worth asking how Matthew structured his unique material so that it was relevant to the conditions prevailing at that time. The purpose of this article is to prove that there are allusions to the Old Testament in Matthew 28:18-20 so that the intended use can be understood and fits the context. The methods used are structural analysis, style analysis, and allusion analysis. The results of the discussion prove that Matthew 28:18-20 contains allusions to Daniel 7:13-14 and Isaiah 7:14; 8:8,10 which is anti-imperial in nature so that recipients of Matthew's Gospel are given the basis and encouragement for courage in carrying out the Great Commission even in a situation of Roman imperialism.

Abstract

The doctrine of God's choice of believers is a concept that is difficult to explain and has become a theological polemic to this day. This concept polemic occurs in groups that emphasize works as the basis of salvation and groups that emphasize grace as the basis of salvation. The Bible explains that the doctrine of choice of believers (predestination) is a very important part, and this doctrine is closely related to the teaching of salvation. Specifically, the Bible explains the doctrine of God's choice of believers in the letter Romans 9. Therefore, the author uses the exegetical method to find the meaning of God's choice of believers as an effort to strengthen the congregation's faith. God chooses His chosen people based on God's covenant, God's purposes, God's generosity, and God's sovereignty. And Allah chooses His chosen people through faith, and not because of good deeds. Faith here is faith in the Lord Jesus who is the center and target of faith.

Abstract

This research presents a combination of two approaches, historical criticism and narrative criticism, in analyzing the motifs of the author of the book of Judges through the narrative of Israel's deliverance by Gideon. The debate among Old Testament scholars regarding historicity and theological historiography has divided opinions into two camps that are difficult to reconcile. Although each approach has its own strengths and weaknesses, the combination of both can enrich an approach to the analysis of a narrative text. Judges 6-8 are rarely interpreted using both of these approaches. For historical critical interpreters, emphasis on historicity and the documentary sources forming the narrative is crucial. However, they often overlook the literary devices that bind these historical fragments. On the other hand, narrative criticism, which focuses on literary devices, tends to trap interpreters in the subjectivity of interpretation. Some interpretations with ethical, moral, and practical theological nuances have also made leaps too far without considering the author's motifs. Through the combination of historical criticism and narrative criticism, this research has identified the author's motifs as fundamental theological values that can serve as a foundation for developing theology. This research has found that the author of the book encourages the generations of Israel to maintain their identity through theological messages about God's interaction in Israel's history during the era of Gideon.
