Abstract

Forensic stylistics, a crucial tool in crime-solving, analyzes linguistic features to reveal authorship, truthfulness, and narrative structure. This study applied forensic stylistic analysis to a Jakarta man's suicide note, employing Prokofyeva's theory. The analysis revealed insights into the author's psychological state and motivations, echoing findings by Maulida et al. Key elements examined include clear reasoning, emotional expressions, and the presence of positive, negative, and cognitive emotions. The note's structure, grammar, punctuation, cultural context, and vocabulary choices offer a comprehensive view of the author's mental turmoil. By extending Prokofyeva's framework to a different cultural context, this research demonstrates the versatility and applicability of forensic stylistics in deciphering suicide notes across diverse populations. The study underscored the importance of linguistic analysis in understanding the complex emotions and cognitive processes behind suicide, providing valuable information for criminal investigations and psychological assessments. Through this meticulous examination, the research contributes to the broader understanding of forensic stylistics and its role in uncovering the deeper layers of meaning within final messages, offering a poignant glimpse into the author's state of mind before their tragic decision. Abstract

This study aimed to examine the effect of personality traits, extroversion and introversion, on students' speaking skills. This study used a correlational method with a quantitative design with 64 sample students of semester four, English Education Program of Universitas Islam Riau. Utilizing the Eysenck Personality Questionnaire (EPQ), students were classified into extroverted and introverted groups, and their speaking skills were evaluated based on pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary, fluency, and understanding. The results indicated that 71.88% of students were extroverted and 28.12% were introverted. Introverted students got a higher average speaking score (56.67) compared to extroverted students (51.41), statistical analysis showed that neither personality trait significantly affected speaking skills. The distribution of speaking skills affected personality traits for only 1% of extroverted and 0.9% of introverted, with both results statistically insignificant. The study concluded that educational strategies should not focus solely on personality traits but consider other factors such as motivation, learning strategies, and instructional quality. Abstract

The purpose of this paper was to analyze William Henry Davies’ poems “The Rain”, “Money” and “The Fog” from the lens of Stylistic analysis. This analysis was done at the level of graphological, Lexico-syntactical, morphological, and phonological patterns. Stylistic analysis is used in linguistics to discover the various language features that are in the poems and create the meaning that can be found from the language features. This piece of the paper helps in understanding the stylistics according to different scholars, the basic concept of these poems that are related to life’s problems, and the stylistic techniques used in them. This comprehensive examination highlights the simplicity and accessibility of Davies’ poetry, making it relatable and profound. The findings underscore the distinction between poetic and non-poetic language, showcasing the effectiveness of stylistic analysis in literary studies. The study also underscored Davies' mastery of a straightforward yet profound poetic style, reflecting his experiences and philosophical reflections on nature and humanity. This analysis highlighted the distinct characteristics of Davies' poetic language and his unique contribution to early 20th-century poetry. Abstract

Concepts including communication patterns in public institutions, media discourse (reports, commercials, television broadcasts, etc.), and the construction of individual and group identities that communicate ideological views, authority, and status are all of importance to critical discourse analysis (CDA). Ad discourse is one of the media discourses that this study uses. The three most well-known and valuable brands that the researcher selected were Toyota, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Land Rover, and BMW. This study's objective is to use semiotic analysis and CDA to analyze the data. Within the technique, the researcher employed a qualitative approach. The findings revealed that each brand crafts a unique narrative, leveraging advanced technology, aesthetic appeal, and emotional resonance to maintain a strong market presence. These advertisements are more than just promotional tools; they are meticulously designed works of art that reflect the evolving consumer preferences and competitive dynamics of the automotive industry. The study underscored the importance of strategic messaging in automotive advertising, demonstrating how these brands effectively capture and retain consumer interest through diverse and dynamic marketing approaches. Abstract

This study explored the applications of forensic linguistics concerning two of Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes stories, and the detailed linguistic analysis of Edgar Allan Poe’s ‘The Murders in the Rue Morgue.’ The key to the analysis of the two Sherlock Holmes stories involved the examination of how language was used to construct narratives of crimes and detection, the areas of discourse, narrative structure, and character development. The linguistic analysis of  Poe’s text involves discourse analysis, and pragmatic, and forensic linguistics revealing how language builds up mystery, tension, and resolutions as well as how character’s speech signals their aspirations and interactions. Additionally, it was shown not only how to engage the formalist principles in the interpretation of those texts directly connected with this movement but also, how linguistic methodology can be useful in the analysis of other works and in general, in the literary investigation. The study also highlighted the canonical significance and diversity of cases in the selected stories, demonstrating the varied methods through which language shapes the detective genre. By integrating secondary literature and employing rigorous analytical methods, the research contributes to a deeper understanding of forensic linguistics and its applications in both literary and legal contexts. The findings underscored the importance of linguistic analysis in enhancing the narrative structure and aiding in the detection of crime within detective fiction. Abstract

This study investigated the use of mind mapping as a strategy for improving the writing skills of eleventh-grade students at MAS YasPen Nurul Huda Serapu. This study focused on 24 students who struggled to organize their ideas and effectively communicate them in written English. To measure the impact of mind mapping on students' writing abilities, the study used a combination of observation, instructor interviews, and several exams across three cycles. The first data in Cycle I revealed that students had a low average GPA of 57.66, indicating a substantial need for intervention. Students' average scores rose gradually as they used mind mapping, reaching 65.50 in Cycle II and 80.50 in Cycle III, surpassing the KKM standard of 72. The findings demonstrated that mind mapping effectively helps students organize their thoughts and improve their writing skills. This research highlights the potential of innovative teaching methods like mind mapping in enhancing educational outcomes and suggests further integration of such techniques in the curriculum to support student learning. Abstract

The fundamental of human development, including the advancement of science, is philosophy. It is impossible to divorce the philosophical underpinnings of science's advancement from their integration into curricula. The purpose of this study is to look into how the philosophy of science is used in the curriculum development of English language instruction at Bengkulu City's Sint Carolus High School. This study used instruments of questionnaires and interviews, and a qualitative-descriptive methodology was employed, with Four internal school stakeholders serving as research subjects. The study's findings demonstrated the importance of a philosophical basis for curriculum building by fusing the Tarakanita Character Education formulation, the Pancasila philosophy, and the national curriculum. This curriculum's philosophical underpinnings have beneficial effects on educational institutions, particularly for those involved in creating and developing their curricula and making sure that the materials used are grounded in scientific theory.
