Abstract

This study analyzes the concept of justice from the perspective of the Social Contract Theory according to Thomas Hobbes, John Locke, and Jean-Jacques Rousseau. These three philosophers have different views on social contracts and justice. Hobbes emphasized the importance of the state in protecting individuals from brutal natural conditions; Locke emphasized the importance of individual natural rights and the role of the state in protecting those rights; while Rousseau emphasized the importance of the general will of society and the role of the state in upholding that general will. By using juridical-philosophical and comparative analysis methods, this study shows that justice from the perspective of the Social Contract Theory is the highest value for the state to uphold. Therefore, the state has an important role in realizing justice for citizens in Indonesia by increasing political awareness and active participation of citizens, ensuring transparency and accountability in government and political parties, protecting citizens' rights, and promoting popular sovereignty. Thus, justice can be realized for all citizens.

Abstract

This research explores the complex relationship between God's sovereignty and man's free will in the context of Christian salvation, focusing on biblical verses that address divine predestination and human responsibility. The central research problem examined is the apparent theological tension between passages affirming God's absolute sovereignty in salvation (Romans 8:29–30, Ephesians 1:4–5, 2 Timothy 1:9) and those emphasizing human responsibility and free choice. The objective of this study is to provide a comprehensive exegetical analysis of key biblical texts to determine how divine sovereignty and human free will be harmonized in Reformed theology, while exploring various alternative theological frameworks. Through rigorous grammatical-historical exegesis, discourse analysis, and comparative theological methodology, this research analyzes the original Greek texts, examines their historical-cultural contexts, and evaluates different interpretative traditions. The results demonstrate that God's sovereignty and human free will are not mutually exclusive concepts, but rather theological realities that operate within a divine mystery transcending human comprehension. Exegetical findings reveal that biblical texts consistently affirm both God's absolute sovereignty over salvation and genuine human responsibility to respond in faith. The grammatical analysis shows consistent use of aorist tenses, indicating God's decisive action while maintaining parallel affirmations of human agency and accountability. The practical implications include a deeper understanding of grace as the foundation of salvation, motivation for evangelism grounded in divine election rather than human manipulation, and a basis for the certainty of salvation that does not depend on human performance.

Abstract

The central research problem addresses how literature functions as both a medium for character education and social criticism, specifically investigating what moral education values are embedded in the novel and how various forms of social injustice are portrayed through character interactions and social contexts. This study aims to analyze the moral education values and forms of social injustice depicted in Tere Liye’s novel Teruslah Bodoh Jangan Pintar through a literary sociology approach. This research employs qualitative descriptive methods with reading and note-taking techniques for data collection. The results show that the novel contains various moral education values, including creativity, justice, hard work, responsibility, honesty, and empathy with social care. Additionally, the novel depicts eight forms of social injustice: economic inequality, gender discrimination, social class oppression, educational injustice, racial-ethnic-religious discrimination, legal injustice, labor exploitation, and structural-cultural violence. Through Faruk’s sociology of literature theory, this novel serves not only as fiction but also as a medium for social criticism and character education that reflects Indonesian social reality. The implications demonstrate that literature serves as an effective medium for moral education and social awareness, with this novel functioning not only as entertainment but also as a catalyst for critical consciousness about systemic social problems. The balanced distribution of both moral values and forms of social injustice indicates the author’s intentional effort to provide comprehensive social commentary while promoting character development, making this work valuable for educational purposes and social transformation.

Abstract

An essential principle of international law, Pacta Sunt Servanda asserts that all treaties are to be faithfully upheld by all governments. This research addresses the critical problem of how this fundamental principle can be effectively implemented in international criminal law enforcement, particularly given the persistent challenges of state compliance, jurisdictional limitations, and barriers to international cooperation. The research objectives are twofold: (1) to analyze the fundamental position of Pacta Sunt Servanda principles within the framework of international agreements, and (2) to examine the relationship between Pacta Sunt Servanda principles and the application of international criminal law. This study employs a qualitative normative juridical approach with comprehensive document analysis, examining landmark treaties including the 1948 Genocide Convention, the 1949 Geneva Conventions, and the 1998 Rome Statute. The results demonstrate that while Pacta Sunt Servanda serves as the cornerstone of international legal stability, its implementation faces significant obstacles, including state non-compliance, jurisdictional disputes, and political interference. The analysis reveals that successful enforcement requires robust institutional frameworks, as evidenced by cases from the International Criminal Court (ICC) and the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia (ICTY). The principle's effectiveness varies considerably across different international criminal law contexts, with compliance rates influenced by political, economic, and sovereignty considerations. The implications of this research emphasize that addressing implementation challenges requires enhanced multilateral commitment and strengthened international cooperation mechanisms. The study concludes that while Pacta Sunt Servanda remains fundamental to international justice, ensuring justice for victims of international crimes demands systematic reforms in state compliance monitoring.

Abstract

Indonesia's creative industries, particularly the culinary and fashion sectors, are significant contributors to the national economy. However, many micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) face a persistent innovation gap that limits their competitiveness in the digital era. This study addresses the critical need to understand digital innovation adoption patterns and their impact on business performance within Indonesia's creative economy. The research objectives are threefold: to identify the types of digital innovation being adopted by MSMEs, analyze the key dimensions influencing innovation performance, and propose evidence-based strategies to enhance their competitiveness. Using a quantitative approach, primary data were collected from 384 MSME respondents across various regions in Indonesia through structured questionnaires. The data were analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) to examine the relationships between variables. The findings confirm that human capital capacity, resource capacity, and strategic environment significantly drive both innovation and operational[A1] performance, which in turn enhance overall business performance. Notably, innovation performance emerged as the strongest predictor of business success, demonstrating its critical role in MSME sustainability. The study provides practical, actionable strategies for policymakers and MSMEs to foster digital transformation, including targeted improvements in digital skills development, enhanced access to funding mechanisms, and sector-specific innovation support programs. These insights contribute to bridging the innovation gap and strengthening Indonesia's positioning in the global creative economy.

Abstract

The offshore oil and gas drilling industry is a high-risk sector where effective Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) management is critical. This study examines the implementation of leading and lagging safety indicators and their impact on safety and drilling performance aboard Jack-Up Rig XYZ, operating under Saudi Aramco. Using a quantitative approach, the study analyzed 12 months of operational data through Pearson correlation and multiple linear regression. Findings revealed a significant negative correlation between leading indicators (e.g., Safe Observation Cards, audit compliance) and Non-Productive Time (NPT), with higher proactive safety measures corresponding to reduced downtime. However, lagging indicators (e.g., incident rates) showed no significant impact on drilling performance. The regression model explained 91.4% of NPT variation, underscoring the value of leading indicators in predictive safety management. Implications suggest that rig operators should prioritize leading indicators to enhance operational safety and efficiency, though technical drilling metrics like Rate of Penetration (ROP) remain influenced more by geological and engineering factors. This research provides empirical support for integrating proactive OHS measures into daily rig management practices.

Abstract

This research examines interpersonal communication based on intuition, bypassing institutional formalities, yet effectively fostering motivation and self-development in children from complex social backgrounds at the S3 Lintau Foster Home. Children with challenging backgrounds need supportive care and effective communication from family figures to build self-confidence, motivation, and growth. This study reveals that volunteers, through adaptive communication and intuition, successfully fulfill this needs. The research aims to analyze how volunteers' interpersonal communication processes contribute to motivating and developing foster children at the S3 Lintau Orphanage. Utilizing a qualitative case study approach, researchers apply Joseph DeVito’s interpersonal communication concepts alongside the Theory of Coordinated Management of Meaning (CMM) to deeply investigate communication flows. Findings highlight the significance of verbal and nonverbal communication that is personalized for each foster child. The process begins by building closeness, followed by supportive and empathetic message delivery, internalization of rules and values, encouragement of competent behavior, and ultimately fostering motivation and self-development. This progression relies heavily on reconstructing and coordinating meanings to establish shared understanding of the values, rules, and motivations imparted. The study demonstrates how volunteers, without formal authority, use intuitive and adaptive interpersonal communication to meet the emotional and developmental needs of foster children in a complex social context, effectively promoting their growth and motivation.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the alleged obstruction of justice communicated through conversations on the WhatsApp messaging application. The subject of this research is the alleged criminal act of obstruction of justice committed by the Secretary General of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P), Hasto Kristiyanto (HK), who is suspected of attempting to hinder the investigation conducted by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) in relation to a bribery case involving the interim replacement (PAW) of a member of the Indonesian House of Representatives, identified by the initials HM. The alleged obstruction of justice was conveyed via WhatsApp messages, which reportedly contained instructions from the accused (HK) to one of his staff members, identified as witness K, to dispose of the mobile phone used during the relevant period to prevent it from being seized[A1] by KPK investigators. This research adopts a juridical analysis method using a descriptive qualitative approach, combined with forensic linguistics through pragmatic analysis, specifically speech act theory and conversational implicature. This framework is employed to analyze digital conversations as evidence in proving the criminal act of obstruction of justice. The findings indicate the use of directive illocutionary acts in the phrases "just use this phone" and "just sink that one," which imply an intention to eliminate evidence—an act constituting obstruction of justice committed by the accused. The forensic linguistic approach is expected to assist investigators, public prosecutors, and judges in examining digital communication as legal evidence, particularly in supporting the evidentiary process in criminal proceedings in the pursuit of truth and justice.

Abstract

Islamophobia has grown significantly in France since President Emmanuel Macron permitted caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad, which outraged Muslim communities. These events have contributed to the perception that Islam threatens French secular values (Laïcité). While France upholds a secular system where state affairs must remain separate from religion, the presence of Muslim immigrants has become a major concern for the French government, which worries about threats to the principle of secularity, as Islam is often viewed as incompatible with liberal French culture[A1]. This research examines the impact of Islamophobia on Muslim communities in France during President Emmanuel Macron's administration, using Constructivism and National Interest theories to analyze how Islamophobia influences Muslim society under Macron's leadership. The study employs qualitative methods and descriptive analysis, with data collected from secondary sources, including news outlets, official websites, and prior research related to Islamophobia in France. The findings indicate that Macron's statements and policies have significantly affected Muslim communities in France, leading to social discrimination, racism, violence, and international boycotts, though the long-term effects of international boycotts require further investigation. The research concludes that the reinforcement of laïcité has been instrumentalized in ways that disproportionately target Muslims, undermining social cohesion and human rights. The findings highlight the need for policy reforms that balance secular principles with religious freedom and inclusion, as well as greater international awareness of systemic Islamophobia in France.
