Abstract

This This study investigates the effectiveness of Gimkit, a game-based learning tool, in improving the reading skills of ninth-grade students at SMP Negeri Karya Sakti. The main objective of this research is to explore how using Gimkit, an interactive learning tool, can enhance students' reading skill.  The research used a quantitative experimental design with two groups: one experimental class used Gimkit during reading lessons, while the control class followed traditional textbook-based instruction. Both groups took a pre-test before the lessons and a post-test after the lessons to measure improvement. The tests assessed vocabulary, comprehension, and reading fluency. The results showed a significant improvement in the experimental group’s scores, with an average increase of 16.80 points. A paired sample t-test confirmed the improvement was statistically significant (t = -10.602, p < .001). These findings suggest that Gimkit helps enhance reading skills by making learning more interactive and engaging. Features like instant feedback, rewards, and customisable quizzes also increased students’ motivation. It is recommended that educators integrate interactive digital tools like Gimkit into their teaching strategies to boost student participation and reading performance. Future research may explore the long-term impact of using such platforms and their application across different subjects and grade levels.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the factors contributing to the low motivation and organizational climate of the Subject Teacher Consultation Forum (MGMP) for Handicrafts and Entrepreneurship (PKWu) regarding teacher participation in activities within the DKI Jakarta area. Using a descriptive qualitative method, data were collected through both in-person and online interviews. The primary respondents consisted of five teachers from five regions in DKI Jakarta, whose motivation levels were assessed. The selection of these teachers as respondents was based on their teaching experience and their role as core administrators of the MGMP. Research result, showed that teachers' motivation to participate in MGMP activities was largely influenced by the achievement motive and the expectation of recognition. Most teachers were willing to forgo incentives but expected acknowledgment for their contributions. On the other hand, the organizational climate was assessed as relatively positive, as the management was willing to take risks regarding work programs without significant conflicts, although differences of opinion could be effectively resolved. However, several weaknesses were identified, particularly within the structural elements of the organization. The MGMP lacked formal statutes and bylaws, the administrators demonstrated limited accountability, there was no incentive system in place, and only one region had a work program serving as the organization's standard operating procedure. These factors served as major obstacles to develop a more effective organizational climate. The need for policy involvement from stakeholders to establish regulations requiring teachers to be assigned to the PKWu subject for a minimum of two years. This aligned with the study's findings that external factors, particularly from superiors, influenced individuals' willingness to engage in self-development, especially in MGMP activities.

Abstract

Autistic children often face challenges in various aspects of social skills, particularly in demonstrating responsibility including difficulties in understanding emotional expressions, building relationships, and adapting to social norms. Inclusive education plays a crucial role in fostering their social skills, with teachers serving as primary facilitators. This study aims to explore the strategies teachers employ in guiding autistic children and identify the challenges encountered in inclusive kindergarten settings. A descriptive qualitative research method was utilized, incorporating observation, interviews, and document analysis. The data analysis process consists of three main stages, namely data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that teachers implement various strategies, such as role-playing, social storytelling, and positive reinforcement, to enhance the social skills of autistic children. However, several challenges persist, including limited specialized training, difficulties in balancing attention between regular and special needs students, and classroom management complexities. Therefore, greater support from schools and parents is essential to establishing a more inclusive and conducive learning environment that promotes the social development of autistic children.

Abstract

Teachers’ experience and autonomy in designing evaluations often overlook the needs of students with special needs, a key component of inclusive education in vocational high schools. The integration of the Design for Change (DfC) approach, a component of design thinking, is regarded as a relevant approach to bridge mathematics learning with both inclusivity and industry relevance. This study explores the impact of integrating the DfC approach supported by teachers’ understanding of evaluation on the autonomy of inclusive vocational school teachers in developing problem-based mathematics learning evaluations. Using a mixed-methods approach with an explanatory sequential design, data collection began with a quantitative phase involving 114 mathematics teachers from inclusive SMK Pusat Keunggulan in Bali, selected through cluster random sampling. Data were analyzed using multiple linear regression and t-tests. The qualitative phase involved two purposively selected teacher informants, with data gathered via semi-structured interviews and analyzed descriptively. Findings reveal that teachers with a strong understanding of the DfC tend to show greater autonomy in designing problem-based mathematics learning evaluations aligned with both student needs and vocational demands. The DfC approach is shown to support mathematics teachers in creating innovative, inclusive, and industry-relevant evaluations.
