Abstract

Education on Clean and Healthy Living Behavior (PHBS) education is an important aspect of disease prevention, especially in early childhood. Getting used to clean living from an early age not only protects children from the risk of infection, but also forms the basis of sustainable health. PHBS education for PAUD children is a preventive step to increase awareness of hygiene and health from an early age. The “Clean and Healthy Living Behavior Education (PHBS) through Cartoon Films for PAUD Children” program initiated by this service team aims to introduce PHBS interactively. Learning methods include showing educational cartoon films, interactive discussions, direct demonstrations, and simple material delivery. The results of the program indicate an increase in understanding and a positive change in children's attitudes toward hygiene practices, particularly in handwashing and consuming nutritious food. Previously, only 2 out of 14 children understood the correct handwashing steps, but after the program, this number increased to 10 out of 14, demonstrating the effectiveness of animated educational films as a teaching tool. These findings suggest that animated films are an effective method for instilling PHBS in early childhood and have the potential for broader application as a preventive effort to improve public health quality.

Abstract

Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are the leading cause of death globally, with 41 million deaths each year. Non-communicable diseases are caused by a combination of modifiable and non- modifiable risk factors, including modern lifestyles that influence diet and smoking habits. In Kajor Kulon, Selopamioro, Imogiri, Bantul, D.I.Yogyakarta, people tend to practice unhealthy lifestyles such as consumption of foods high in sugar, salt and saturated fat, which contribute to the high prevalence of non-communicable diseases, including hypertension and diabetes. Therefore, this community service program aims to increase community awareness of NCDs through socialisation, screening, and health monitoring. The activity was conducted in February 2025, involving 75 high-risk and elderly participants. The method used in this approach was socialisation with material presentation on hypertension, followed by free health screening that included blood pressure, blood sugar, and cholesterol checks. Monitoring was conducted periodically for four families with NCDs. Monitoring results showed a decrease in blood pressure in participants, demonstrating the effectiveness of the programme in increasing awareness and adherence to a healthy lifestyle. Education on the dangers of NCDs and the importance of regular health check-ups proved to increase community awareness. Family support and a good understanding of health play an important role in controlling NCDs. This study emphasises the need for prevention programmes and continuous education to reduce the risk of NCDs in the community, as well as the importance of the government's role in providing affordable health services. Thus, collaborative efforts between the community, government and health institutions are needed to improve the quality of life and health of the community in Kajor Kulon. Through this approach, it is hoped that a healthier and more sustainable environment can be created for future generations.

Abstract

EDELWIS program (Early Detection and Healthy Lifestyle) program is an activity initiative carried out by Real Work Lecture (KKN) students at Sekolah Indonesia Mekkah (SIM) with the aim of raising awareness about diabetes and the importance of early detection of diabetes through blood sugar checking and a healthy lifestyle among students. Diabetes mellitus, especially type 2, is increasingly found at a young age due to unhealthy diet and lack of physical activity. Based on the need assessment, it was found that most students in SIM have limited knowledge about diabetes and its prevention. Therefore, the EDELWIS program was designed to provide direct education on the risks of diabetes, the importance of early detection, and how to maintain health through healthy eating and regular exercise. The implementation method of this program includes initial socialization, monitoring sugar consumption using paper templates, and checking students' blood sugar levels. The socialization was conducted in classes VII to XII with an interactive approach through lectures, questions and answers, and group discussions. The results of the program showed significant improvements in students' knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors related to healthy lifestyles. Students who participated in this program began to reduce the consumption of sweet foods and pay more attention to their nutritional intake. The high participation of students in each stage of the activity shows the effectiveness of the approach used. However, there were some challenges, such as students' difficulty in consistently recording sugar intake and anxiety related to blood sugar check results. Therefore, further education is needed on the practical steps to be taken if the test results indicate a risk of diabetes. Overall, the EDELWIS program has successfully increased health awareness among SIM students and has the potential to be implemented in other schools both in Indonesia and abroad. This program is also one of the implementations of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education in the field of community service, providing direct benefits for students and valuable experience for students.

Abstract

The low awareness of the importance of a clean and healthy lifestyle in Ketandan Village can be seen from the large amount of organic waste around the RW 15-17 road due to the narrow space for movement due to the dense distance between houses, making people have to cook around the public road and from the results of the examination there were 45 elderly people and 20 of them had blood sugar levels above normal limits, making it the main reason for our community service program in Ketandan Village regarding providing education on a clean and healthy lifestyle. This Community Service Program aims to raise awareness and understanding among the residents of Kampung Ketandan about the importance of a healthy lifestyle while providing practical solutions for environmental conservation through the implementation of biopore technology. Health education serves as an initial step in fostering good habits that can prevent various diseases and improve the overall quality of life. The activities carried out include health counseling, medical check-ups, fitness exercises, and menopause awareness sessions. Additionally, this program contributes to religious knowledge enhancement through Quranic studies and Islamic teachings, as well as participation in the Chinese Cultural Week by offering free health screenings. In the environmental aspect, this program promotes the use of biopore technology as a solution for water management and organic waste processing. Through the provided education, the community is expected to become more aware of personal hygiene, proper sanitation, and the importance of consuming nutritious food as part of a sustainable healthy lifestyle. The activities were conducted in a participatory manner, actively involving the community in discussions, hands-on practice, and mentoring sessions for program implementation. The results indicate an increased awareness among residents regarding health and environmental conservation. The high level of enthusiasm was evident from the active participation in each activity, including attendance, engagement, and implementation of the delivered materials. Although there were challenges, such as time constraints and adjustments to residents' daily activities, the program successfully achieved its goals by enhancing the community’s understanding of a healthy lifestyle and encouraging concrete actions in maintaining hygiene and environmental sustainability. It is hoped that the provided education will continue and become an integral part of the community's daily life, promoting a healthier and more environmentally friendly lifestyle.

Abstract

The incidence of stunting is caused by various things, including maternal factors during pregnancy, nutritional intake during toddlerhood, infection, environmental factors and parenting. Prevention can be done early, namely when the baby is in the womb (when the mother is pregnant) must get balanced nutrition. In the Jlegongan Padukuhan area, there are several pregnant women experiencing high-risk pregnancies. In addition, pregnant women in the Jlegongan Padukuhan area are less familiar with the nutritional needs of pregnant women, as well as the consequences that occur if nutritional needs during pregnancy are not met properly. The purpose of this community service project is to increase the knowledge and regeneration of posyandu cadres about the importance of proper nutrition during pregnancy as an early effort to prevent stunting. The Real Work Lecture activity method uses a participatory approach with a qualitative descriptive technique that aims to understand the conditions and health problems of pregnant women in depth consisting of observation, planning, practice and counseling. The activities carried out are Counseling on Stunting Prevention, DASHAT (Healthy Kitchen to Overcome Stunting), Counseling on Reproductive Health, Family Planning, and Productive Age Women, and Anthropometric Measurements for Toddlers. The results of the Nyara Work Lecture obtained an increase in good knowledge about stunting and the importance of nutrition during pregnancy by 90% compared to the knowledge before the majority of activities carried out by 50%. Activities are expected to be carried out and evaluated regularly as an effort to prevent stunting.

Abstract

The Community Service Program implemented in Kapurancak Hamlet, Kopen Village, Teras Subdistrict, Boyolali Regency, focuses on efforts to prevent and control Dengue Fever (DHF) with the main objective of increasing public awareness and active participation in maintaining environmental hygiene. The main problem faced in this area is the high number of DHF cases caused by a lack of public awareness of the importance of maintaining environmental hygiene, as well as a lack of understanding of how to prevent the breeding of the Aedes aegypti mosquito, the main vector of DHF spread. The methods used in this program include direct observation in the field, interviews with local communities to find out their views, and documentation of activities. This program also applies facilitation techniques such as Focus Group Discussion (FGD), socialization, and direct assistance in the implementation of the 3M Plus movement (Draining, Covering, and Recycling) as well as education on the importance of maintaining environmental hygiene. One of the main programs implemented was the socialization of dengue fever, including how to prevent, treat, and the early symptoms of the disease. The results of the program showed a high level of community participation in this activity, as well as an increase in their understanding of the importance of maintaining environmental hygiene and preventing DHF. The socialization, which involved expert speakers, contributed to providing practical insights on how to prevent the breeding of Aedes aegypti mosquitoes. As a follow-up, the community service group provided mosquito larvae repellent (abate) to the community during the socialization as part of efforts to prevent the spread of DHF. The conclusion from this activity is that the community service program succeeded in raising community awareness about dengue prevention and control.

Abstract

Hypertension and diabetes mellitus are chronic diseases that continue to increase in prevalence and contribute significantly to morbidity and mortality rates. One of the main challenges in the management of these two diseases is the low compliance of patients in undergoing treatment, which is often caused by lack of knowledge and lack of health education. This community service program aims to increase awareness and compliance of Kauman Village residents, Ngupasan Village, Yogyakarta City, towards drug consumption and management of hypertension and diabetes through education and family assistance approaches. The methods used included socialization activities in community meeting forums and intensive mentoring to four selected foster families. Interventions were carried out through physical examinations, regular monitoring of blood pressure and blood sugar levels, as well as education on the importance of a healthy lifestyle and adherence to medication schedules. The results showed an increase in participants' knowledge about chronic diseases and an improvement in the health condition of most participants, indicated by a decrease in blood pressure and blood sugar levels after the intervention. However, fluctuations in some participants indicate the need for a sustainable and personalized approach, as well as active involvement of families and health workers. In conclusion, this family-based educational program is effective in increasing awareness and management of chronic diseases at the community level, and has the potential to be replicated on a wider scale.

Abstract

The application of a healthy and clean lifestyle in daily life can determine the sustainability of a community’s well-being. A clean and healthy lifestyle can begin with the cleanliness and health of the household kitchen in each family. However, many people still do not pay attention to this lifestyle. For example, some people in Sarwodadi, Pejawaran, Banjarnegara, still neglect the cleanliness and health of their household kitchens. The kitchen is a place for preparing and serving food to the family. The cleanliness and health of the kitchen and food processing directly affect the family members' health. This community service program aims to raise awareness and understanding among PKK (Family Welfare Program) mothers regarding Clean and Healthy Living Behavior (PHBS) through education on healthy consumption patterns of side dishes to improve family health quality. The methods used include interactive counseling, distribution of educational posters, and a follow-up program called "Healthy Kitchen," which involves home visits to PKK mothers for further education on balanced nutrition. The results of this program show an increase in understanding and awareness among PKK mothers about the importance of personal hygiene, environmental cleanliness, and healthy eating habits. Most PKK mothers reduced their consumption of instant food and began paying more attention to the cleanliness of their home environment. Success indicators were measured through direct observations, interviews, and evaluations, which showed active community participation in applying PHBS. The main challenge in this program was changing old habits and limited access to nutritious food. Therefore, the proposed follow-up actions include providing digital educational modules, regular monitoring, and collaboration with health centers to strengthen the continuous implementation of PHBS. With a consistent and structured approach, it is hoped that this program will have a positive impact on creating healthier and empowered families.

Abstract

Sawahan Hamlet, located in Banaran Village, Galur District, Kulon Progo, is an area located in a coastal area with gentle and flat topography. However, this geographical condition also places the hamlet at high risk of emergencies, such as natural disasters, accidents, or medical emergencies that can happen anytime and affect anyone. Limited access to health services in the area, coupled with the long distance to the nearest medical facility, exacerbates the threat of death or complications due to slow treatment. In this context, Basic Life Support (BLS) training for Sawahan Hamlet youth is a strategic and potential solution to increase community responsiveness. The young generation, who have high mobility and response speed, are able to be the front line in saving lives before professional help arrives. The purpose of this community service is to improve the knowledge and skills of Karang Taruna youth in handling emergencies through BLS training. This community service activity includes counseling on emergency handling and BLS first aid training. BLS training successfully improved the knowledge and skills of adolescents in emergency management (significant increase, p<0.05, and average practice score 92.8), so it is necessary to strengthen this program to expand the scope of training and make it part of the health risk mitigation system in the region. Thus, collaboration between parties is needed to disseminate BLS to other adolescents and include it as a regular program at the village level, in order to maximize the role of the younger generation as the vanguard of emergency management.

Abstract

Public health issues, especially non-communicable diseases (NCDs), are the main focus of community service in Jelapan , Seloharjo Village, Pundong District, Bantul Regency. Based on data from the Pundong Community Health Center, around 30% of the population in Seloharjo Village suffers from hypertension and diabetes mellitus. The aim of this community service is to increase public awareness, knowledge, and skills in detecting and managing NCDs. The methods used include training in the use of medical devices (tensiometers and GCUs) for 15 health cadres and youth organization members, health counseling and screening for 40 residents, and family health care assistance for 6 families with members suffering from NCDs. The program was implemented through three main stages: initial observation to identify health problems in the community, program implementation which includes training, counseling, screening, and mentoring, and evaluation to measure the effectiveness of the program. The results of the service show a significant improvement in the knowledge and skills of the community. Before the training, all participants were able to use a blood pressure monitor, but only 3 (20%) were able to use a glucose meter. After the training, 100% of the participants were able to operate both devices properly. Basic knowledge about NCDs increased from 50% to 70% after the counseling. The family health care assistance program succeeded in increasing compliance in monitoring blood pressure, blood sugar levels, cholesterol, and uric acid, as well as encouraging the adoption of a healthy lifestyle such as diet regulation and physical activity. Cooperation with the Pundong Community Health Center and active community participation are important factors in the program's success. The program's sustainability can be seen from the ability of health workers to use medical devices independently and the increased community awareness of the importance of routine health checks. The success of this program is expected to be the first step in the ongoing prevention and control of NCDs in Jelapan.
