Abstract

Abstract: The Ngengkleng dance work is a dramatic dance workinspired by the phenomenon of the postponement of the earth almstradition in Kesiman Village, Pandaan District, Pasuruan Regency. Thepostponement of the ritual gave rise to anxiety and a sense ofcollective guilt in the community which was linked to the Ngengklengphenomenon, a mental disorder experienced by a number of youngwomen. This work depicts the disruption of the balance of humanrelations, nature, and spirituality due to the neglect of ancestraltraditions. The creation of the work uses Jacqueline Smith'sConstruction Method I through the stages of initial stimulation, determining the type of dance, presentation mode, improvisation, evaluation, selection, refinement, and motif development. The form ofthe work is a dramatic dance with a symbolic presentation mode thatcombines elements of dance and theater. The performance structureconsists of an introduction and five scenes that represent theemotional journey of the main character, starting from regret, anger, loss, to the process of recovery through the earth alms ritual. The workwas performed on the proscenium stage of the Cak Durasim Buildingin Surabaya with five female dancers as representatives of theNgengkleng characters. Performance accessories include naturalmakeup, Javanese lurik clothing, miniature tumpeng props, dramaticlighting, and traditional and midi music accompaniment. Throughmovement, expression, and visual elements, this work emphasizes theimportance of tradition as a link between humans and nature, ancestors, and spirituality. Ngengkleng is expected to become amedium for cultural education and social reflection for the community,as well as a creative contribution to the development of dramaticdance in Indonesia. Keywords: Ngengkleng, almsgiving to the earth, dramatic dance.

Abstract

Fallen Rose is a local band from Surabaya with an alternative rock subgenre and stands independently without being under the auspices of a record label. One of the works produced by the band is the song "Divert", which was produced independently using a home recording concept to maintain its existence. This study aims to describe the production process of the song "Divert" as well as the publication and marketing efforts carried out by Fallen Rose in the independent music industry. The study uses a qualitative descriptive method. Data were obtained through observation, interviews, documentation, and literature studies. The research sources consisted of Dirham Satia as the songwriter and leader of Fallen Rose, Hayyan Sabitah as a sound engineer, Akmal as a creative idea provider, and Harlan as an indie music lover. The results of the study show that the production process of the song "Divert" went through three main stages, namely pre-production, production, and post-production. The pre-production stage includes song creation, musical concept development, and technical preparation of production. The production stage was carried out through the processes of tracking, recording, editing, and the use of the Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) Studio One. The post-production phase includes mixing, mastering, digital distribution, and publication through various social media platforms and music streaming services. Fallen Rose's marketing strategy leverages digital media, the music community, and live performances at various independent music events. Research findings indicate that independent music production allows musicians to have full control over their work and is an effective alternative to the evolving digital music industry.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the creativity of eighth-grade students of SMP Negeri 52 Surabaya in art learning through batik jumputan activities. Creativity is examined using the 4P model proposed by Rhodes (1961), encompassing Person (individual student characteristics), Press (learning environment), Process (creative process), and Product (creative output). Employing a qualitative descriptive approach, data were collected through passive participatory observation across ten sessions, semi-structured interviews with the Art and Culture teacher and eighth-grade students, and documentation including activity photographs and student artworks. Analysis followed the interactive model of Miles and Huberman, with source and method triangulation ensuring data validity. Findings indicate that: (1) students demonstrated high interest in practical art activities, with motivation and self-confidence developing gradually through direct creative experience; (2) outdoor learning settings created a conducive atmosphere for creative exploration, supported by the teacher's facilitative role, productive peer interaction, and adequate school facilities; (3) students' creative processes unfolded through preparation, technique and color exploration, technical problem-solving, and culminated in the emotionally meaningful illumination moment of unveiling tied fabrics; (4) each group produced artworks with unique and original motifs and color combinations, with measurable creative development across all ten sessions. The study concludes that batik jumputan activities effectively support comprehensive creativity development across all four dimensions of the 4P model.

Abstract

This The Januback Music Group is the house band at Café Neon in Surabaya, having managed to maintain its presence amid the competition in the nightlife industry, despite focusing solely on the pop genre. The group’s uniqueness lies in its self-management system, which is run by its members who also serve as its administrators. This study aims to identify the elements and management strategies in their regular performances, while also examining their role from an arts education perspective. This study employs a descriptive qualitative approach based on the theory of Handayaningrum and Soeyono (2018). Data were collected through observation, interviews, and document analysis. The results indicate that performance management has been implemented in a structured manner through the 6M elements (men, money, methods, materials, machines, markets) and management functions encompassing planning, organizing, directing, and controlling. The strategies employed include intensive internal coordination, clear task allocation, regular rehearsals, and adapting performance concepts to the audience’s characteristics. From an arts education perspective, these regular performance activities serve not only as a form of entertainment but also as a learning medium that fosters discipline, creativity, cooperation, responsibility, and artistic skills among the members of the music group. These findings confirm that the success of a performance is determined not only by musical ability but also by systematic management.
