Abstract

This study examines the concept of tawakkal in the Qur'an and Hadith and its implications for contemporary sharia business practices. Tawakkal is understood as a combination of maximum effort and submission of results to Allah. Using the library research method, this study analyzes classical interpretations and sharia business literature to develop an integrative theoretical framework. The results show that tawakkal is not only spiritually valuable, but can also strengthen strategy, ethics, and risk management in sharia business. The case studies of Bank Syariah Indonesia (BSI) and 212 Mart show how the value of tawakkal can be internalized in organizational culture and operational decision making. This study recommends that the value of tawakkal be made an important part of entrepreneurship training and sharia business governance.

Abstract

The Poverty remains a persistent socio-economic challenge in Indonesia, exacerbated by the Covid-19 pandemic and rising fuel prices. Despite numerous government and private-sector interventions, poverty reduction efforts have yielded limited long-term impact. This paper examines the potential of productive waqf as an Islamic philanthropic instrument for sustainable poverty alleviation. With over 420 thousand hectares of waqf land and an estimated cash waqf potential of Rp180 trillion, Indonesia possesses significant untapped resources that can be mobilized for economic empowerment. The study demonstrates that when managed professionally, productive waqf can serve as a catalyst for generating sustainable income, creating employment opportunities, and strengthening micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). However, it also identifies critical challenges that hinder its optimal implementation, including regulatory inconsistencies, limited institutional capacity, and low public awareness. The primary contribution of this research lies in proposing a practical and integrative model for optimizing productive waqf as a tool to support poverty alleviation and promote inclusive economic growth in Indonesia.

Abstract

The family is the smallest social unit and serves as the primary foundation for shaping character and values within society. Ideally, family relationships are built on balanced and just interactions among members. However, in practice, gender inequality remains prevalent in various aspects of family life. This includes unequal division of roles, exclusion of women from decision-making processes, disproportionate domestic workloads, and experiences of violence against women. This study aims to identify and analyze the forms of gender injustice within family relations and to explore strategic efforts to achieve gender equality. Utilizing a descriptive qualitative approach and library research methods, this study examines literature, legal documents, and previous research through the lens of gender theory and family sociology. The findings reveal five major forms of gender injustice: marginalization, subordination, stereotypes, violence, and excessive workloads. These issues have a systemic impact on the well-being of family members, particularly women and children. Addressing these challenges requires a proper understanding of gender concepts, equitable distribution of domestic responsibilities, shared decision-making, and transparent financial management. Promoting equality within the family not only fosters emotionally and socially healthy individuals but also contributes to the development of an inclusive, harmonious, and gender-just society.

Abstract

The 21st century is marked by rapid advancements in digital technology, necessitating a paradigm shift in the field of education, including Islamic Religious Education (IRE). This study aims to analyze how the synergy between IRE and digital technology can create learning experiences that align with the demands of the 21st century. The research identifies three key aspects: the integration of digital technology into IRE instruction, innovation in digital-based learning media, and the role of digital literacy in shaping students' Islamic character. Utilizing a descriptive qualitative approach through library research, data were collected from academic literature, journal articles, and Islamic education policy documents. The findings indicate that the incorporation of technology in IRE enables more contextual and relevant learning experiences for digitally engaged students. Innovations such as interactive videos, podcasts, and Islamic applications enhance student engagement and deepen their understanding of religious values. Furthermore, Islamic digital literacy serves as a critical foundation for equipping students to interact in the digital space with ethical, critical, and responsible behavior. This synergy presents an effective strategy for nurturing a generation of Muslims who are not only technologically literate but also spiritually grounded and morally upright in navigating contemporary challenges.

Abstract

This study employs a qualitative research design using a socio-legal approach, aiming to analyze Islamic law not merely as normative text but as a social institution that interacts with the dynamics of modern society. Islamic law, which embodies spiritual, moral, and social values, now faces serious challenges in the modern era, particularly due to the secularization of legal and state systems—even in Muslim-majority countries. This secularization often marginalizes Islamic law to the domain of private moral norms, excluding it from formal legal frameworks. Islamic legal reform is an ongoing process responding to the cultural, social, economic, and political dynamics of Muslim communities worldwide. The application of Islamic law in Western contexts such as Europe and the United States serves as a compelling case study in understanding its global future. From a sociological perspective, Islamic law is not a static historical legacy but a living and adaptive system capable of addressing contemporary challenges. Despite pressures from globalization, secular legal systems, and shifting social values, Islamic law continues to inspire collective awareness and calls for substantive reform. These reforms, guided by the maqāṣid al-sharīʿah (objectives of Islamic law), contemporary ijtihād (independent reasoning), and principles of justice and human rights, are moving Islamic law from a textual paradigm to a contextual one. Globalization has also catalyzed broader, more inclusive dialogues about Islamic law.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the axiology of the Independent Curriculum as an orientation for the development of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) at MAN 2 Kota Bima. The Independent Curriculum offers a flexible learning approach that focuses on strengthening character, so it has great potential in strengthening the relevance of Islamic religious education in madrasahs. With a qualitative approach and case study design, this study involved the head of the madrasah, PAI teachers, and students as participants. Data collection techniques were carried out through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and documentation. The results of the study indicate that the implementation of the Independent Curriculum at MAN 2 Kota Bima contributed significantly to the formation of student character through the integration of spiritual, moral, and social values in PAI learning. From an axiological perspective, the values of honesty, discipline, and tolerance are important foundations that are instilled contextually. However, challenges remain, such as limited human resources, lack of intensive training for teachers, and the need to adapt to changes in the learning paradigm. These findings emphasize the importance of strengthening the capacity of educators and systemic support so that the Independent Curriculum truly functions as a vehicle for fostering students' religious and social character holistically. This research is expected to provide academic and practical contributions in the development of a more transformative Islamic religious education curriculum in various madrasas in Indonesia.

Abstract

This study explores the integration of faith (‘aqidah), ethics (akhlaq), and Sufism (tasawwuf) as the foundational elements in cultivating comprehensive religious awareness among Muslims. Employing a qualitative methodology through a literature review, the research delves into the historical, philosophical, and conceptual interplay of these three dimensions and underscores their collective significance in addressing the challenges posed by modernity, secularism, and moral relativism. While ‘aqidah establishes the core beliefs of a Muslim, akhlaq guides social and interpersonal conduct, and tasawwuf nurtures the spiritual depth and inner purification. Historically, the compartmentalization or neglect of one or more of these aspects has resulted in an imbalanced understanding and practice of Islam, often diminishing its transformative potential. This paper argues that a holistic integration of these three pillars is essential for developing a well-rounded Muslim identity—one that is intellectually grounded, ethically responsible, and spiritually conscious. Furthermore, integrative character education rooted in Islamic teachings is presented as a strategic and sustainable model for nurturing rational, moral, and spiritually aware individuals in contemporary contexts. The findings highlight the need to revisit classical Islamic educational frameworks and adapt them to current realities to ensure a meaningful and resilient religious life.

Abstract

Religious moderation is a fundamental concept in Islamic teachings that prioritizes the principles of balance, justice and tolerance, both in religious and social life. In facing the challenges of globalization and the dynamics of modern times such as radicalism, gender inequality, human rights violations, and environmental crises, a moderate approach to religion is an important strategy in maintaining harmony, harmony, and diversity. This research aims to explore the relevance of religious moderation in the contemporary social context by highlighting the importance of reinterpreting Islamic teachings based on the values of gender justice, respect for human rights, and rejection of all forms of violence in the name of religion. Through a study of contemporary Islamic thought and the maqashid sharia approach (the main purpose of sharia), this study reveals that religious moderation can be used as a foundation in the formation of character education, the development of inclusive public policies, and the strengthening of constructive interfaith dialog. This approach not only plays a role in overcoming social polarization, but also in building a just, equal and sustainable society. Thus, religious moderation in Islam is not just a middle-of-the-road attitude, but an active commitment to the values of civilization, social justice and peace. The findings of this study confirm that a moderate and contextualized Islam is able to contribute to a just and sustainable society.

Abstract

This study explores the dynamics of public interaction with issues of Islamic law and politics within the social, cultural, and political context of Indonesia. These interaction patterns are deeply rooted in the historical trajectory of Islamic politics and the role of religion as a value system that shapes public behavior and political decision-making. The relationship between Islamic law and politics reflects a dynamic interplay influenced by various factors, including historical and cultural backgrounds, economic conditions, religious interpretations, education, media, and global as well as social transformations. In practice, Islamic law functions both as a source of moral and ethical guidance and, at times, as a political tool that can generate tension within Indonesia’s multicultural society. Islam’s core principles—such as justice, deliberation (musyawarah), human rights protection, and fair leadership—encourage active civic engagement in legal and political affairs. Moreover, religion plays a pivotal role in shaping group identities and social relations, especially in the context of ongoing social change. The perspectives of scholars such as Al-Ghazali and Muhammad Abduh illustrate varied approaches to the relationship between religion and the state, ranging from integrative to secularist views. This study highlights the critical need for dialogue, inclusivity, and contextual approaches in understanding and implementing Islamic law and politics in Indonesia, in order to foster a just and civilized sociopolitical order that aligns Islamic values with modernity and societal diversity.
