Quantitative data processing in the form of the Paired Group Difference Test showed that there was no significant difference in cross-cultural adaptation competencies among students before and after their expedition to New Zealand. However, the mean comparison test shows an increase in adaptation competence across cultures with dimensions, especially in the Personal Autonomy Dimension. Meanwhile, qualitative data processing shows a high adherence to religious rituals, efforts to maintain original styles in overcoming problems, conformity with new cultures, considering morals and shyness, stereotypes on the environment, stereotypes on facial expressions, and stereotypes of a nation.

Abstract

Sleep is usually related to dreaming. However, it is still unknown why people dream and what is the importance of having a dream. This article will explore previous theories regarding dreaming and its association with REM sleep. The earliest research on sleeping and dreaming was marked by Eugene Aserinsky and professor Nathaniel Kleitman, which found a new stage of sleep called rapid eye movement or REM sleep. Then William Dement developed more research specifically in the field of dream observation. Both Aserinsky and Dement, along with Kleitman as their supervisor, became pioneers in sleep and dream studies. More studies were then developed with theory and hypothesis that tried to explain the mystery of dreaming, such as psychoanalytical dream theory and the activation – synthesis hypothesis. Despite both perspectives were opposed, those studies helped researcher in the field of dream to understand the relation between dreaming and REM sleep. Future research is needed in order to conduct a reliable interpretation of the manifest dream content and a stronger scientific basis in understanding the latent content of the dream.

Abstract

Personality is one of the main things that are being shaped during the formation of Catholic Priest. However, assessments of personality are often only based on preceptor observations. This study aims to find out the personality characteristics of the brothers to help the preceptors educating them. This research is a quantitative descriptive study with 82 brothers who live in Archdiocese of Jakarta as participants. Participants are currently undergoing stage of Bachelor studies, Pastoral Orientation Year, or Master studies with age range of 20-38 years (M = 23.44, SD = 3.447). Participants were collected by convenience sampling method, by distributing online questionnaires. The general personality description is obtained by processing the score of each Big Five Marker (IPIP-BFM-50) in Indonesian domain with descriptive statistical methods. ANOVA test is carried out to see the differences based on the formation stages. Most of the brothers have moderate scores for each domain, so the expressions can be trained to suit the needs of Church. However, some of them have extremely low score on Emotional Stability (3.7%), thus showing high tendency to be susceptible to stress and negative emotions. Agreeableness is the dominant characteristic as there are no extreme low scores in this domain and the SD on the raw score is also the smallest. It is also found that there are significant differences in Agreeableness based on the stages of the formation that are being undertaken.

An explorative-descriptive research design with sociometric methodswere used in the study. Participants were 126 undergraduate students from the same year of entry.Data were analyzed by means of sociomatrix, choice status of a person and sociogram. The resultsshowed the differences peer group dynamics between situations (kelompok tugas, teman nongkrong, teman curhat) and between periods of study (semester 2, semester 4, semester 6). This studyrevealed the possible use of sociometric methods for policy socialization strategy and as a methodfor identifying potential academic and non-academic problems.

Abstract

Many things can cause traffic accident, including the driver behaviour. Aggressive drivingbehaviour is associated with the risk of traffic accident. Aggressive driving behaviour usuallypredicted by external factors, such as other driver’s attitude or gesture that could trigger anger. However, aggressive driving behaviour could also be shown in a situation where there is no otherdriver, for example when someone drive with a high speed in an empty traffic. This means, internalfactor, associated with the ability of the drivers to control themselves, can also contribute toaggressive driving behaviour. This study aims to investigate the role of self-control in predictingaggressive driving behaviour in car driver, specifically in Jakarta. The result from linearaggression analysis shows that self-control significantly predicted aggressive driving behaviourin car drivers in Jakarta. The coefficient is negative, showing that higher self-control determineslower aggressive driving behaviour, and lower self-control determines higher aggressive drivingbehaviour. Practical implications, limitations of the study, and recommendation for future studyare discussed.

Further, the positive emotions might cause a civil servant to undergo a job without felt depressed so s/he could actualize her/himself through her/his work. Several factors that shape happiness at work are good relationship with colleagues and superiors, motivation, challenging or varied work, and a feeling of being suitable or in accordance with the work undertaken.
