Abstract

This study aims to analyze pronunciation in English by using minimal pairs. A qualitative research method with a quantitative approach was used with the number of participants 15 students majoring in English education, North Sumatra State Islamic University. In collecting data, pronounciation tests and listening tests were analyzed using descriptive qualitative techniques. The minimum pairs tested were: /k/ - /g/, /p/ - /b/, /t/ - /θ/, /p/ - /f/, /s/ - /ʃ/, /s/ - /z/, /tʃ/ - /dʒ/, /f/ - /v/, /t/ - /d/. The highest number of errors in the pronounciation test reached 66.7% and in the listening test reached 73.3%. More knowledge about phonology is still needed so that pronounciation skills are even better. If pronounciation is good, listening skills will also be good and communication in English can run smoothly without any misunderstanding.

Abstract

This article examines the crucial role of English consonants in the language development of individuals, focusing on their acquisition and articulation processes. It explores how children acquire and master consonants in the English language, highlighting the significant milestones in their articulation development. The acquisition of English consonants plays a pivotal role in the overall language development of children. It involves the gradual learning of phonetic distinctions and the ability to produce and perceive consonant sounds accurately. This article discusses the various stages of consonant acquisition, starting from early babbling to the development of a more sophisticated consonant inventory. Articulation, the physical production of speech sounds, is a key component of consonant acquisition. The article emphasizes the importance of clear articulation for effective communication. It delves into the challenges that learners may encounter during the articulation process, such as difficulty in producing specific consonant sounds or mastering complex sound combinations. Furthermore, the article highlights the connection between consonant acquisition and vocabulary development. Adequate mastery of consonants enables learners to pronounce words correctly, enhancing their overall language proficiency and communication skills. Understanding the role of English consonants in language development is crucial for educators, parents, and speech-language pathologists. By gaining insights into the acquisition and articulation of consonant sounds, stakeholders can provide appropriate guidance and support to facilitate language learning and address any potential difficulties that learners may encounter. Overall, this article emphasizes the significance of English consonants in language development, emphasizing their role in acquisition, articulation, and vocabulary expansion.

Abstract

This research aimed to find out the advantages of presentation activities in learning english phonology. Descriptive qualitative method was used in this research. Data were collected using an interview to gauge the students’ perception of presentation activities in learning english phonology. The population of this research was ten students from TBI 1 in Islamic State University of North Sumatera. The research finding shown that the students had a highly positive and positive attitude about the use of presentations in English phonology lessons. The students believed the presenting activities were educational and helpful in developing their English pronunciation and vocabulary. It could be concluded that the use of presentation activities in learning english phonology gave some advantages to the students at TBI 1.

Abstract

Helping students improve the quality of learning is one of the important goals of feedback in the teaching and learning process, especially in writing activities. In this literature study, the aim was to examine how teachers can provide effective feedback in writing classes. To achieve this, several expert opinions and previous research on feedback for writing skills have been collected and compiled into several strategies that can be used by teachers to provide effective feedback in writing activities. From this study, it was found that effective feedback from teachers can help students identify their level of proficiency and weaknesses in writing. By considering students' writing needs and goals, the feedback provided can help students evaluate their own achievements and correct weaknesses to improve their writing skills. Teachers can choose certain types of feedback based on the purpose of the writing and the needs of the students. Therefore, it is expected that the teacher can provide effective feedback to increase students' motivation in improving their writing skills. Furthermore, further research is expected to provide information about oral and written feedback in writing activities.

Abstract

Elements of crime in films can be found in scenes, story ideas or dialogues. The element of crime can trigger violence in the real world. The purpose of this research is to know and describe the meaning of crime as a learning medium to recognize and prevent criminal acts in the real world. The depiction of criminal elements is influenced by patriarchal ideology and extremism. This research is a qualitative research with John Fiske's semiotic analysis approach using The Codes Of Television theory. The results of this study indicate that the meaning of crime shown in the John Wick film displays and communicates four forms of crime, namely: shooting, killing, beating, and maltreating. The four forms of criminality are influenced by the ideology of masculinity and extremism. Masculinity is a cultural construction attached to men, extremism is a radical belief in a concept. The ideology of masculinity is constructed from the ideology of patriarchy and capitalism and the ideology of extremism is constructed from the ideology of fanaticism.

Abstract

Adolescence is a period of exploring self-potential to form a solid personality, teenagers will later experience marriage. Currently early marriage and infidelity is one of the factors causing divorce. With so many cases of divorce due to infidelity that occur based on true stories, the filmmakers made this story into a work through a media with the aim of being able to convey the moral message of the story of infidelity to the public, one of the series that was appointed, namely Series Mendua. Series Mendua tells about the problems of marriage. In this study, the researcher chose the perspective of adolescents as research subjects, so based on this background, the researcher raised the title "Youth Perceptions of Marriage Problems in the Double Series". The purpose of this study is to find out how adolescents perceive marital problems in the Mendua Series. This study used a qualitative descriptive method, and was analyzed based on the Hypodermic Needle theory. The results of the study show that the adolescent's perception of marital problems in the Mendua Series is a positive thing, namely a series that is accepted by society, provides lessons in running a household, with very professional roles. The average informant uses cellphone media, watches the telegram application. The message conveyed by Series Mendua in running a household is not to easily listen to other people's words, prove it to yourself if there is a problem and solve it immediately. Perceptions about Series Mendua that marriage is not only harmonious but also has marital problems such as infidelity, fights, domestic violence, lies, hatred and divorce.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to find out the society perception on motor vehicle loss services at Police Department of Center of Bengkulu. Data are obtained by implementing several data collection techniques such as observation, interview, documentation and literature review. Data then analyzed by using perception pattern theory by Bitner according to 3 main elements such as stimuli, organism and response. The result of the research shows that 1) Central of Bengkulu police station has become good information source, it gives good information about report. Society think that the officer has served people when they want to make a call by giving detail information so society can understand the steps and administrative steps in making a report. 3) society perception is different, some people said that the loss report service has good while the other said the service is slow. It can be found from the data from investigation of motor vehicle loss, from 2022-2023, from 5 loss motorcycles, only 1 which can be found. Because of that reason, it can affect society’s perception. From the writer’s observation, the process is slow because it needs to passed through of several investigation. The problem from police department is because there is no CCTV at the loss area and the vehicle has no equipment. When the motorcycle is found, the police department is not giving it back to its owner but has to complete the council process to find out the stealer network at the center of Bengkulu.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to find out the users’ motive in using Tempo application among housewives. This research is descriptive qualitative research, data are collected by using observation, interview and documentation. In selecting the informant, the researcher uses purposive sample technique means that people who become informants are Tempo application users with criteria decided by researcher. There are 5 housewives as informants at Pasar tais of Seluma Regency. the focus which conducted by researcher is to find out the motive used by users by using Rachmat motive theory. The theory consists of cognitive and affective motives. According to the result of research, cognitive motive of the users in using the application is to obtain the information about how to do wedding make-up, dressed with other culture and knowledge about the lates artists’ make up, also the information about model dressing and wedding dress. In affective motive, the happy feeling because the users can feel the latest wedding model, obtain new experiences and expect for praise and happy if the content is viral and expect to get positive feedback from people.

Abstract

This journal is entitled "Pattern of Collection and Distribution of Zakat Fitrah 1444 H in the ZISWAF FEBI Laboratory. The background for writing this journal is due to the phenomenon of the lack of interest of students in paying zakat fitrah at the ZISWAF FEBI Lab. This study uses a qualitative approach and descriptive research type. The research subjects were FEBI, amil, and mustahiq students in the FEBI ZISWAF Lab who were directly involved and understood the object of this study. Data collection techniques are carried out by means of observation, interviews, and documentation. Based on the research results, it can be seen that the management and distribution of zakat fitrah in the ZISWAF FEBI Lab is in accordance with the Al-Qur'an, hadith and the opinion of the Shafi'I school of thought. This can be proven by the distribution of zakat fitrah evenly to all people, especially distribution to orphanages in the Betungan area, Berngkulu. And the distribution of zakat fitrah a few days after Eid al-Fitr. A value of worship that was obtained by the committee, the availability of the ZISWAF FEBI Lab as a place for managing zakat fitrah, and management and distribution time which is free time became an opportunity for the committee. While the obstacles related to the management and distribution of zakat fitrah in the ZISWAF FEBI Lab is the lack of interest of students, especially the Faculty of FEBI in paying zakat fitrah for the ZISWAF FEBI Lab.

Abstract

Radio listeners are increasingly selective in choosing radio broadcast programs, so that the number of radio listeners is decreasing, plus the presence of other media causes a lack of listener interest in listening to radio. This is a problem for radio station managers such as Radio Dehasen 88.5 FM which is under the auspices of Dehasen University Bengkulu. The purpose of this study was to find out how much the level of listener satisfaction on Radio Dehasen 88.5 FM, especially among students at Dehasen University Bengkulu. This study uses the Uses and Gratification Theory which focuses on the use of media (uses) to get satisfaction (gratification). This research is a quantitative research with the method used is survey. The sample in this study amounted to 98 people. From the results of this study it can be seen that the intensity of listening to the radio by listeners of Dehasen 88.5 FM Radio is as much as 30.4% listening to the radio for 10-45 minutes, 53.6% listening for 46-90 minutes, 8.9% listening for 91-135 minutes, and 7.1% listened for 135-180. The Uses and Gratification theory shows that the main problem is not how the media changes audience attitudes and behavior, but how the media fulfills the personal and social needs of audiences. This study wants to know whether listening to the radio can fulfill listener satisfaction, namely information satisfaction, personal identity satisfaction, social interaction satisfaction, and entertainment satisfaction. These indicators are used to measure listener satisfaction in listening to the radio. Based on the average results of the research, the listener satisfaction level of Dehasen 88.5 FM Radio is in the Fairly Satisfied category with a percentage score of 49.324%. With these findings, it is hoped that it can provide input for the managers of Dehasen 88.5 FM Radio to further improve the quality of radio delivery that is tailored to listeners' interests and what things can satisfy these listeners so that Dehasen 88.5 FM Radio can continue to exist in the future and be able to compete with other radio stations.
