Abstract

The expansion of BRICS into the BRICS Plus framework reflects a broader transformation in the global order amid declining Western dominance and the growing assertiveness of emerging economies. While existing studies largely emphasize the economic implications of BRICS enlargement, limited attention has been given to its combined material, normative, and identity-based dimensions. This study aims to analyze how BRICS Plus contributes to the restructuring of the global order by integrating Neo-Realist, Soft Power, and Constructivist perspectives. Employing a qualitative descriptive approach, the research is based on systematic literature analysis of academic journals, policy reports, and official BRICS documents. Data are examined through thematic content analysis to identify patterns related to power balancing, non-coercive influence, and identity construction among BRICS Plus members. The findings indicate that BRICS Plus functions not only as a mechanism of collective balancing against Western-dominated institutions through alternative financial arrangements, but also as a platform for projecting soft power and promoting a shared Global South identity. The study concludes that the influence of BRICS Plus is derived from the interaction between material capabilities, normative appeal, and collective identity formation, positioning it as a significant actor in the ongoing transition toward a more multipolar and inclusive global order.

Abstract

The rapid growth of social media use among vocational high school students has increased concerns about psychological well-being, particularly in relation to self-esteem and Fear of Missing Out (FoMO). Students are increasingly exposed to social comparison and digital pressure, which may affect their mental functioning. This study aims to examine the relationships between self-esteem, FoMO, and psychological well-being among vocational high school students in Bandung. A quantitative correlational design was employed, involving 80 students selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using standardized self-esteem, FoMO, and psychological well-being scales, and analyzed using descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation, and classical assumption testing. The results indicate that self-esteem is positively and significantly correlated with psychological well-being, while FoMO shows a strong negative correlation with psychological well-being. In addition, self-esteem is found to be negatively associated with FoMO. These findings suggest that self-esteem functions as a protective factor, whereas FoMO acts as a psychological risk factor for students’ well-being. The study highlights the importance of strengthening internal psychological resources and managing digital-related anxiety to support students’ psychological well-being in the context of increasing social media exposure.

Abstract

This study addresses the gap between the normative role of district military commands (Kodim) within Indonesia’s universal defense system and the persistent socio-economic and security challenges in land border areas. Border regions such as Belu-Malaka continue to face underdevelopment, poverty, and non-traditional threats, which potentially weaken territorial resilience. The research aims to analyze how Kodim 1605/Belu implements its role in managing territorial potential to strengthen border defense and community resilience along the Indonesia-Timor Leste land border. A qualitative case study approach was employed, with data collected through in-depth interviews with military personnel, local government officials, and community leaders, complemented by field observations and document analysis. Data were analyzed using an interactive model involving data reduction, thematic categorization, and contextual interpretation. The findings indicate that Kodim 1605/Belu has played a constructive role through integrated territorial development programs, including infrastructure support, community empowerment, and the cultivation of national defense awareness. These efforts have contributed to social cohesion and early threat detection at the community level. However, structural constraints such as limited resources, coordination gaps with civilian agencies, and geographical challenges remain significant. Strengthening inter-agency synergy and institutional integration is therefore essential to ensure the sustainability and effectiveness of territorial defense management in border areas.

Abstract

Recurrent flooding in Sumatra has triggered intense debate on social media regarding its underlying causes and the attribution of responsibility. While previous disaster studies in Indonesia have largely emphasized technical and physical dimensions, limited attention has been given to how public discourse frames flood causality in digital spaces. This study aims to examine how the causes of flooding in Sumatra are constructed in social media discourse and to identify which actors are most prominently associated with responsibility. Employing a qualitative multi-platform netnographic approach, this research analyzes user-generated comments from Facebook, YouTube, and TikTok collected during the first month following major flood events. Data were examined using NVivo 15 through word frequency analysis, word cloud visualization, and hierarchical mapping to identify dominant themes and framing patterns. The findings reveal that public discourse predominantly frames flooding as a natural and moral phenomenon, emphasizing environmental factors and religious interpretations. Although references to government accountability and corporate activities such as deforestation and extractive industries are present, they appear less frequently and in fragmented forms. These results suggest that social media discourse tends to depoliticize flood risk by foregrounding natural explanations, while structural and governance-related factors remain marginal. This study contributes to disaster communication scholarship by highlighting the discursive production of disaster risk in digitally mediated public arenas.
