Abstract

This study aims to determine the role of emotion regulation on academic resilience in 10th, 12th, and 14th semester students who are working on an undergraduate thesis. The research method used is quantitative, employing multiple regression analysis techniques to analyze the data. The instruments used in this study include the Emotion Regulation Questionnaire (ERQ) scale, developed by Gross and John (2003), to measure emotion regulation, and The Academic Resilience Scale (ARS-30), developed by Cassidy (2016), to measure academic resilience. The results of the study reveal that there is a significant positive effect of cognitive reappraisal emotion regulation on academic resilience among students in their 10th, 12th, and 14th semesters who are working on their thesis, accounting for 27.1% of the variance in academic resilience. This finding suggests that students who engage in cognitive reappraisal, a strategy that involves reinterpreting a situation to change its emotional impact, are more likely to demonstrate resilience in the face of academic challenges. In contrast, the study found no significant effect of expressive suppression emotion regulation on academic resilience in the same group of students. Expressive suppression, which involves inhibiting the outward expression of emotions, does not appear to contribute to the ability of students to remain resilient while working on their thesis. These findings highlight the importance of cognitive emotion regulation strategies in fostering academic resilience among students, particularly during challenging academic tasks such as thesis completion.

Abstract

E-sport, a rapidly growing competitive field, offers promising career opportunities for many individuals. However, the intense training regimens, isolation from broader social interactions, and performance pressures can significantly impact the life satisfaction of E-Sport athletes. This study aims to describe the life satisfaction levels among E-Sport athletes. A quantitative descriptive approach was employed using non-probability sampling with a purposive sampling technique. The sample consisted of 100 E-Sport athletes. The Satisfaction with Life Scale (SWLS) based on Diener's (1984) theory, comprising 26 valid items with a reliability coefficient of 0.933, was utilized as the measurement tool. Results indicate that 57% of athletes reported high life satisfaction. Specifically, 80.6% had high satisfaction with future life, whereas 60% had low satisfaction with their past life. Early adult male E-Sport athletes with incomes between 5,000,000 - 7,000,000 IDR and greater than 10,000,000 IDR, training for 16-24 hours, and participating in over 10 tournaments had higher life satisfaction. Conversely, athletes earning 3,000,000 - 5,000,000 IDR, training for 10-15 hours, and participating in fewer than eight tournaments reported lower life satisfaction.

Abstract

This study explores the impact of self-regulated learning on the academic achievement of underachieving students at SMPN 12 Bekasi City. Self-regulated learning, a critical element in academic success, includes the ability to plan, monitor, and evaluate one’s learning activities. The research employed a quantitative descriptive method, selecting 49 underachieving students through purposive sampling. Data collection was conducted using structured questionnaires completed by the students. Statistical analysis identified a significant but negative relationship between self-regulated learning and academic performance, with a correlation coefficient of -0.172. This suggests that students with lower self-regulation tend to perform worse academically. The findings highlight the importance of targeted interventions to improve self-regulated learning skills among underachievers, which could potentially enhance their academic success.

Abstract

This study aims to explore and understand the dynamics of community participation in the village development planning process (Musrenbangdes) in Tambayoli Village, Soyo Jaya District, North Morowali Regency. Using a qualitative approach, data were collected through purposive sampling, open data collection methods, and analysis of both textual and visual materials. The primary methods of data collection included participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and document review. The findings reveal that, although some awareness of Musrenbangdes has been achieved through existing announcement systems, the overall effectiveness of community participation remains limited. Many residents perceive the process as a formality, with decisions dominated by specific stakeholders, leading to low levels of trust and engagement. The study identifies significant barriers to active participation, such as inadequate information dissemination, lack of transparency, and limited involvement in both the implementation and benefit-sharing of development projects. The research suggests that for Musrenbangdes to be more effective, there needs to be a concerted effort to enhance transparency, ensure equitable information distribution, and create a more inclusive participatory framework. These findings have implications for improving governance and promoting sustainable development at the village level.

Abstract

This study analyzes the construction of traumatic marriage reality in early adulthood in Medan City following parental divorce, focusing on intrapersonal communication. The research also explores the forms of traumatic marriage experiences in this context. The study employs the theories of reality construction, family communication, intrapersonal and interpersonal communication, reasoned action, social judgment, trauma, marriage, divorce, and early adulthood. Using a constructivist paradigm and qualitative descriptive method, the study involved five informants: two aged 24, two aged 25, and one aged 19. The results reveal that four informants construct marriage as complex, burdensome, and not a life goal, while one informant shifted from subjective to objective reality, viewing marriage as a source of happiness and a life goal. Three informants experienced complex marriage trauma, while two experienced simple trauma. Interestingly, not all informants with negative marriage constructions experienced complex trauma. Specifically, informants NA, AAP, and AN had negative constructions with complex trauma; informant VWY had negative constructions with simple trauma; and informant HS had a positive construction with simple trauma. This study highlights the diverse ways early adults in Medan City construct and experience the reality of marriage after parental divorce.

Abstract

Feelings of inferiority represent a significant psycho-social issue for individuals, often leading to difficulties in decision-making, hesitancy, a lack of assertiveness, withdrawal, and heightened emotional sensitivity. These challenges are particularly prevalent among adolescents, who frequently compare themselves to others in their environment. Body dissatisfaction emerges when adolescents compare their actual body to an idealized version and struggle to accept their current appearance. One factor influencing body dissatisfaction is self-compassion, which can either mitigate or exacerbate these feelings. This study aims to investigate the relationship between self-compassion and body dissatisfaction among students of the Faculty of Psychology at Bhayangkara University Jakarta Raya. Using convenience sampling, 100 students participated in the study. The findings indicate a significant negative correlation between self-compassion and body dissatisfaction, with a correlation coefficient of r = -0.803*** and p = 0.000 (p < 0.05).

Abstract

This study explores the relationship between social media usage, physical self-concept, and social anxiety among students at Universitas Persada Indonesia YAI. Social media has become an essential aspect of daily life, especially among younger generations, significantly impacting various dimensions of their psychological well-being. Physical self-concept, which encompasses individuals' perceptions and evaluations of their physical attributes, also plays a crucial role in shaping self-esteem and social interactions. This research adopts a quantitative approach, utilizing convenience sampling to gather data from a sample of 200 students. The study employs three Likert scale-based instruments: the Social Anxiety Scale, Social Media Usage Scale, and Physical Self-Concept Scale. Data were analyzed using linear regression. The first hypothesis test revealed a t-value of 7.816, with a corresponding significance (Sig) value of 0.000, which is below the 0.05 threshold. This result supports the first hypothesis, indicating a positive and statistically significant relationship between social media usage and social anxiety. Similarly, the second hypothesis test yielded a t-value of -5.887, with a Sig value of 0.000, also below the 0.05 threshold. This finding confirms the second hypothesis, revealing a significant negative impact of physical self-concept on social anxiety. Overall, the study concludes that both social media usage and physical self-concept significantly influence social anxiety among Generation Z students at Universitas Persada Indonesia YAI.
