Abstract

The School Literacy Movement (Gerakan Literasi Sekolah/GLS) is a national program designed to enhance students’ basic literacy skills, particularly reading, writing, and critical thinking. However, its implementation at the elementary school level has not always produced optimal outcomes. This study aims to analyze the implementation of reading literacy journals as part of the School Literacy Movement in a sixth-grade elementary school. A qualitative descriptive approach was employed, involving classroom observations, interviews with teachers and students, and documentation analysis. The findings indicate that the use of reading literacy journals contributes positively to students’ reading habits and reflective skills, yet several challenges persist, including inconsistent implementation, limited reading materials, and varying levels of student motivation. Despite these constraints, the literacy journal serves as an effective medium for monitoring students’ reading activities and encouraging reflective reading practices. The study concludes that strengthening teacher guidance, providing diverse reading resources, and ensuring consistent literacy routines are essential to optimize the effectiveness of literacy journals within the School Literacy Movement framework.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the implementation of the Deep Learning approach and explore the communication skills of fourth-grade students at Muhammadiyah 1 Elementary School, Bangkalan, due to low participation and low quality of student idea delivery. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected through observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation. Data were then analyzed using the Miles, Huberman, and Saldana model (data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing). The results indicate that Deep Learning through authentic projects demonstrated changes in students' verbal participation patterns through collaborative tasks and improved the coherence of ideas due to the demands of critical thinking. This implementation fostered communication skills by facilitating the functional need to speak in small groups, which is an effective countermeasure to passivity in the classroom. However, its implementation still faced limitations due to the limited time allocated for in-depth dialogic discussions and teacher feedback that focused more on content than on the communication process. This study concludes that Deep Learning is a rich context, but it needs to be supported by a more active teacher role in providing explicit instruction and facilitating dialogue to optimize students' communication potential holistically.

Abstract

This study aims to (1) describe the application of the Problem Solving method assisted by video media, and (2) improve the of critical thinking skills of grade V elementary school students through the Problem Solving method assisted by video media. The method uses Classroom Action Research (PTK) for two cycles. The subjects of the study were 29 students in grade V of SD Negeri Tambak Wedi 508 Surabaya. Data was collected through observation and test techniques. Quantitative data from observations and tests were analyzed descriptively by calculating the average score and percentage improvement. The results of the study showed an improvement in the quality of method application, especially in the problem formulation and hypothesis submission phases, after scaffolding in the form of structured worksheets and guiding questions. Significant improvements also occurred in students' critical thinking skills. In Cycle I, the majority of students (59%) were in the Sufficient category and 34% in the Need for Guidance category. After the improvement in Cycle II, there was a drastic change, where 59% of students moved up to the Good category and there were no more students in the Need for Guidance category. Observations show. Thus, the Problem Solving method assisted by video media can improve the critical thinking skills of grade V elementary school students. The success of its implementation depends on the proper scaffolding planning and the creation of a supportive learning climate. This study recommends using a similar approach to develop higher-level thinking skills in elementary school students.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the use of digital folklore media "Asal-Usul Surabaya" as an Indonesian learning medium for instilling values in elementary schools. This research uses a qualitative approach with a case study type. Data were collected through in-depth interviews using semi-structured interview guidelines, participant observation with observation sheets and field notes, and documentation studies. The data is analyzed interactively which includes the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion/verification. The results of the study show that: (1) Media implementation requires pedagogical adaptation of teachers and is supported by visionary school policies; (2) Media succeeds in increasing student engagement in a multimodal manner and functions as a common ground for learning; (3) Narrative understanding and internalization of students' character values increases, although there are technical and cognitive constraints that require improvement of media design. The discussion linked the findings to TPACK theory, cognitive theory of multimedia learning, and multimodal literacy, which confirmed that success is determined by the synergy between school policies, teachers' pedagogical competence, and inclusive media design principles. Digital folklore is an effective learning medium for elementary Indonesian. Its effectiveness is multifactorial, depending on the school's policy support, the teacher's ability to design and mediate learning, and the quality of the media design itself that takes into account the technical and cognitive aspects of the students. This study recommends a holistic approach in adopting similar media to ensure sustainability and optimal learning impact.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the application of the linear regression method in sales prediction and evaluate its use as a data analytics learning media for students. The method used is a quantitative descriptive approach with two main stages: sales data analysis using linear regression and collecting student perception data through Likert scale-based questionnaires. The dataset used consists of simple sales data that is easy for students to process and understand. The analysis results show that the linear regression method can be used to predict sales effectively and provides a clear overview of the relationships between variables. Furthermore, the questionnaire results indicate that students responded positively to the use of real datasets in learning, particularly in improving material comprehension, engagement in the learning process, and ease of data analysis. Thus, the use of linear regression with real datasets can serve as an effective alternative learning media to enhance student data literacy. This research is expected to be a reference for developing data-based learning methods in the field of data analytics.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of health communication strategies as well as the supporting and inhibiting factors affecting communication effectiveness in the Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) prevention program at the Wonokusumo Community Health Center (Puskesmas) in Surabaya. This study employs a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. Data collection techniques were conducted through observation, interviews, and documentation involving healthcare workers, health volunteers (kader), and community members participating in the DHF prevention program. The results indicate that the health communication strategy is executed through health counseling, "3M Plus" socialization, fogging, mosquito larva inspection, environmental cleanup, and the empowerment of larva monitoring volunteers (jumantik) and the Kampung Surabaya Hebat (KSH) volunteers. This communication strategy is implemented participatively and collaboratively by involving schools, local neighborhood heads (RT/RW), health volunteers, and the surrounding community. Supporting factors for the strategy's effectiveness include cross-sector cooperation, the active involvement of health volunteers, and interpersonal communication that is easily understood by the public. Meanwhile, inhibiting factors include low participation from some community members, a lack of consistency in maintaining environmental cleanliness, and limitations in health promotion media. This study concludes that a health communication strategy based on community participation and health volunteer empowerment can successfully increase public knowledge, awareness, and participation in DHF prevention within densely populated urban areas. Therefore, it is necessary to strengthen health communication media and provide continuous education so that the DHF prevention program can run more effectively and sustainably.

Abstract

Social media has intensified the circulation of skincare messages that combine health education with product promotion. This study examines how skincare advertising content on TikTok and Instagram constructs meanings of education and marketing through visual, verbal, and audiovisual signs. The study applies a qualitative semiotic approach based on Charles Sanders Peirce's triadic model of sign, object, and interpretant. The research objects are skincare-related advertising and review contents from Instagram @skincarewanita.id and TikTok @hallo.manis, selected purposively because they display product comparison, recommendation, and educational claims. Data were collected through content observation, screenshot documentation, caption analysis, and audience-comment reading. The results show that Instagram tends to construct skincare messages through static visual comparison, carousel narratives, product labels, and concise claim texts, whereas TikTok builds persuasion through creator performance, spoken testimony, trending audio, facial expression, and fast-paced editing. Both platforms use educational signs such as ingredient explanations, skin-type categories, and usage tips; however, these signs often operate simultaneously as promotional cues that direct audiences toward particular products. The study concludes that the meaning of skincare education in social media advertising is not neutral, because it is shaped by persuasive commercial codes, influencer credibility, and platform-specific forms of attention.
