Abstract

A healthy lifestyle is an important factor in maintaining the quality of life and health of women of productive age. Women in the productive age group have high levels of activity in work, education, family, and social life, making them vulnerable to various health problems caused by unhealthy lifestyles. The purpose of this paper is to determine the importance of healthy lifestyle education for women of productive age in maintaining physical, reproductive, and mental health, as well as preventing diseases, especially hypertension. The method used in this paper is a literature study by reviewing various sources such as health journals, reports from the Indonesian Ministry of Health, and health guidelines from the World Health Organization. The results of the study show that implementing a healthy lifestyle through balanced nutrition, regular physical activity, adequate rest, maintaining reproductive health, and proper stress management can improve quality of life and reduce the risk of non-communicable diseases in women of productive age. Health education also plays an important role in increasing public knowledge and awareness about the importance of maintaining health from an early age. Therefore, continuous health education efforts are needed so that women of productive age can apply healthy lifestyle habits in their daily lives, creating a healthier and more productive society.

Abstract

Hypertension is one of the non-communicable diseases that remains a major public health problem with an increasing prevalence, especially among the elderly population. This condition is influenced by unhealthy lifestyles, lack of physical activity, and limited public knowledge regarding the prevention and management of hypertension. This community service activity aimed to improve community knowledge and awareness regarding blood pressure control through the utilization of complementary therapy in the form of a combination of celery and cucumber juice. The activity was conducted in Dusun IV, Patumbak I Village, Patumbak District, Deli Serdang Regency, May 15, 2026. The methods used included preliminary surveys, observations, interviews, health education, health screenings, hypertension exercise programs, and community empowerment activities. The target participants were residents of Dusun IV using a participatory approach. The results showed that hypertension was identified as a priority health problem in the community. After the implementation of health education and counseling, the community demonstrated high enthusiasm and improved understanding regarding hypertension risk factors, the benefits of a healthy lifestyle, and the use of celery and cucumber juice as a non-pharmacological therapy to help reduce blood pressure. This activity is expected to increase community awareness in preventing and controlling hypertension independently through the adoption of healthy lifestyles and the use of natural ingredients that are easily accessible in the surrounding environment.

Abstract

Menopause is a natural process experienced by women due to decreased ovarian function and reduced estrogen hormone production. This condition often causes physical and psychological symptoms such as fatigue, sleep disturbances, joint pain, anxiety, and mood changes. Community service activities were conducted to determine the effectiveness of green bean porridge administration in reducing menopausal symptoms among elderly women in Patumbak I Hamlet II Village in 2026. The activity involved 45 elderly women who had experienced menopause and complained of menopausal symptoms. The intervention was carried out through health education and regular administration of green bean porridge as a non-pharmacological therapy. Data were collected using interviews, observation sheets, and questionnaires before and after intervention. The results showed that most respondents experienced decreased menopausal complaints after consuming green bean porridge regularly. Respondents reported improved sleep quality, reduced fatigue, decreased joint pain, and more stable emotional conditions. Green beans contain phytoestrogens, protein, vitamins, and minerals that help maintain hormonal balance and improve health conditions in menopausal women. Therefore, green bean porridge can be used as an affordable, simple, and safe alternative therapy to reduce menopausal symptoms among elderly women.

Abstract

Hypertension is a chronic cardiovascular complication driven by a complex interaction of physical and psychological stressors. In Dusun VI, Patumbak 1 Village, the hypertension prevalence hit 36.1% due to high daily stress levels and a complete lack of non-pharmacological relaxation management within the community. Objective: To analyze the effectiveness and contribution of implementing meditation therapy and healthy lifestyle modifications in controlling blood pressure among hypertensive patients in Dusun VI, Patumbak 1 Village, Patumbak District in 2026. Methods: This study utilized a descriptive quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design. A sample of 166 households was selected via purposive sampling from a total population of 284 households using the Slovin formula. Primary data collection relied on structured questionnaires, analyzed through the CARL matrix and Fishbone Diagram. The entire methodology is fully structured in single-flowing narrative paragraphs. Results: Situation analysis highlighted hypertension as the top health priority with a CARL score of 199. The underlying root cause was dominated by unmanaged emotional distress and the absence of mind-relaxation habits. Interventions heavily focused on guided meditation training and healthy lifestyle changes. Post-activity evaluations showed an 85% surge in community knowledge and motor skills regarding self-meditation practices for stress reduction. Conclusion: Meditation therapy is highly effective as a complementary non-pharmacological approach to lower blood pressure by inducing a relaxation response that dampens sympathetic nervous overactivity and improves emotional stability.

Abstract

This study aims to formulate and evaluate aromatherapy wax preparations from nightshade flower essential oil extract (Polianthes tuberosa) as an effort to handle non-pharmacological stress. The essential oil of the nightshade flower is obtained through the method of steam distillation from 10 kg of fresh flowers, resulting in 30 ml of essential oil. The characterization of simplicia showed a moisture content of 5.71%, a water soluble cider content of 17.13%, an ethanol soluble cider content of 18.01%, a total ash content of 10.82%, and an acid-insoluble ash content of 1.49%, meeting the requirements of the Indonesian Herbal Pharmacopoeia. Phytochemical screening identifies alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, saponins, triterpenoids, and glycosides. Aromatherapy candles are formulated in four variations of essential oil concentrations (Polianthes tuberosa): 0% (F0), 5% (F1), 10% (F2), and 15% (F3), as well as one positive control (F4). Physical evaluation shows all formulas have a good, dense, and air bubble-free appearance. The hedonic test showed that the F3 formula (15% essential oil) was preferred by the panelists in terms of aroma, shape, and color, and provided a significant relaxation and refreshment effect, close to the quality of commercial products. The F3's burn time reaches 10 hours, showing good durability.

Abstract

Anemia remains a public health problem in Indonesia, particularly among adolescent girls, with a prevalence of 48.9% according to the 2018 Basic Health Research (Riskesdas). Anemia impacts learning concentration, productivity, and quality of life. Furthermore, a lack of public understanding of medication's Beyond Use Date (BUD) has the potential to lead to medication errors. This Community Service Program (PKM) aims to provide education about medication BUD and introduce date-lime infused water as a preventative measure for anemia. The activity was conducted with eleventh-grade students at Santo Yoseph High School in Medan. Methods used included counseling, demonstrations, and discussions. It is hoped that this activity will increase adolescents' knowledge and awareness of the safe use of medications and their iron intake to prevent anemia.

Abstract

Irrational self-medication, including the misuse of antibiotics and corticosteroids, is a serious health problem among adolescents that may lead to antimicrobial resistance, adverse effects, and delayed diagnosis. A Community Service Program (PKM) titled “Stop Self-Medication Sembarangan: Bijak Menggunakan Obat Sejak Remaja” was carried out by pharmacy professional students of Deli Husada Health Institute on May 23, 2026, at SMA ISTIQLAL Deli Tua. The program aimed to improve health literacy among Grade 11 students regarding rational drug use, the risks of unprescribed antibiotic and corticosteroid use, and the role of pharmacists. An interactive school-based counseling method was used with leaflets, brochures, and educational videos, accompanied by pre-test and post-test evaluations. The activity was attended by 70 students with high enthusiasm. Evaluation results showed a significant improvement in knowledge, from an average pre-test score of 30% to a post-test score of 90%. A total of 10 questions were raised during the discussion session, with a 100% participation rate. In conclusion, school-based health education is effective in improving adolescent health literacy, and pharmacists play a key role as agents of change in fostering rational medication behavior among youth.

Abstract

The skill of composing health reports in English is a crucial ability for students in health sciences, aiding their academic and career pursuits in a globalized world. Nonetheless, numerous students encounter challenges with medical vocabulary, structuring their reports effectively, and utilizing correct grammar. This community service initiative aimed to enhance students’ proficiency in writing health reports in English through various training and mentoring activities. The approach included lectures, interactive discussions, practical report writing based on real-world scenarios, and personalized mentoring sessions. Assessment was carried out using pretests, post-tests, and evaluations of the written reports submitted by participants. The findings indicated a notable advancement in the participants’ understanding and writing capabilities. The average score rose from 65 in the pretest to 85 in the post-test. Additionally, participants displayed improved command of medical terminology, better report structuring, and greater grammatical precision. The training and mentoring initiative was shown to be effective in boosting students’ skills in producing health reports in English and enhancing their confidence in utilizing English for both academic and professional contexts. These results align with earlier research suggesting that well-organized training and mentoring programs can greatly enhance the abilities of participants.
