Abstract

Seizures are a serious complication of tetanus, contributing to high morbidity and mortality rates. Various therapeutic approaches have been employed to manage seizures, including diazepam and magnesium sulfate. This literature review aims to compare the effectiveness of these two agents in reducing both the frequency and severity of seizures in tetanus patients. A systematic search was conducted using scientific publications from PubMed, Google Scholar, and ScienceDirect over the past ten years. The review indicates that magnesium sulfate shows potential as an effective and relatively safe alternative to diazepam in certain clinical settings. However, variations in study design and limited available data highlight the need for further clinical trials to strengthen existing evidence. This review is expected to serve as a reference for clinicians in selecting optimal anticonvulsant therapy for tetanus cases. Furthermore, the study emphasizes the importance of understanding the pharmacological mechanisms, clinical indications, and monitoring of adverse effects to ensure both safety and efficacy of the therapy. Overall, this literature review contributes to the development of evidence-based clinical guidelines for managing seizures in tetanus patients.

Abstract

The Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Program is a priority for reducing maternal and child mortality and improving public health. This study aims to evaluate the implementation of the MCH Program at the Suro Makmur Community Health Center (Puskesmas) in Aceh Singkil in 2025. The method used was a qualitative case study conducted between July 3-11, 2025. Primary data was collected through in-depth interviews with the Head of the Community Health Center, the person in charge of the MCH program, implementing midwives, integrated health post (Posyandu) cadres, and six mothers from the target group. Secondary data was drawn from Community Health Center documents. The analysis focused on input, process, and output aspects using normative, empirical, and gap analysis approaches. The results indicate that the MCH policy refers to the Health Office and central regulations. Human resources are adequate, but distribution and training are suboptimal. The MCH service process is structured, but obstacles arise from budget and infrastructure limitations. In terms of output, program achievements have not met targets, the quality of outreach is low, and community participation is influenced by culture, distance, and trust in health workers. In conclusion, the implementation of the MCH Program at the Suro Makmur Community Health Center (Puskesmas) was optimal, despite a gap between standards and field practice. This study provides important insights for improving the implementation of the MCH program at the community health center level to support efforts to improve maternal and child health more effectively.

Abstract

Based on observations and interviews conducted by the researcher in 2025 with 10 daily workers in the production department of Factory X, it was found that all workers (100%) exhibited poor behavior in the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), namely, they did not use PPE completely. Thru interviews, it was also found that there had been work accident incidents, such as a worker whose hand was blistered from being scalded by hot water from the boiler machine, preventing them from working for several months. There were also other workers who sustained hand injuries from the machine. This study aims to identify the characteristics of workers who do not comply with the use of PPE. This study uses a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional study design, and data collection was carried out thru questionnaires using the total sampling method. The population in this study includes all daily production workers at Factory X, totaling 51 people. The results of the univariate analysis show that 41 people (100% of respondents) are not compliant with the use of PPE. The characteristics of non-compliant workers are dominated by those aged ≥ 30 years, totaling 36 people (87.8%). By gender, most are male, with 34 people (82.9%). Meanwhile, there are 24 workers (58.5%) with a good level of knowledge. However, 26 workers (63.4%) show a poor attitude toward PPE use. From a supervision perspective, 23 people (56.1%) stated that supervision was good. Regarding the comfort of using PPE, 21 workers (51.2%) stated that they felt uncomfortable. Based on these findings, the researchers suggest that factory management issue warnings or sanctions to workers who do not comply with PPE usage rules, and conduct awareness campaigns.

Abstract

Vaginal discharge is a common reproductive health issue among adolescent girls, potentially affecting daily activities and psychosocial well-being. WHO (2021) reported that 75% of women have experienced vaginal discharge, with 45% experiencing it more than twice. In Indonesia, the prevalence reaches 90%, with about 60% occurring among adolescents. A preliminary survey at El Tahfidh Qur’an Junior High School found that 21.5% of female students experienced vaginal discharge, yet most could not distinguish between physiological and pathological discharge. This study aimed to analyze factors associated with the incidence of vaginal discharge among eighth and ninth-grade students at El Tahfidh Qur’an Junior High School in 2025. This quantitative study employed a cross-sectional design involving 93 respondents selected through total sampling. Data were collected using a questionnaire and analyzed using the Chi-Square test and Odds Ratio (OR). Results showed significant associations between knowledge (p=0.000; OR=7.875), age (p=0.001; OR=0.257), personal hygiene (p=0.000; OR=7.286), and information sources (p=0.007; OR=0.295) and the incidence of vaginal discharge. It can be concluded that improving knowledge, practicing proper personal hygiene, and obtaining valid health information play crucial roles in preventing vaginal discharge among adolescent girls.

Abstract

Anemia is one of the public health problems frequently found in developing countries, particularly among adolescent girls. This condition is generally influenced by the monthly menstrual cycle, which increases iron loss and consequently reduces hemoglobin levels below the normal threshold. This study aimed to analyze nutrient intake in relation to the incidence of anemia among adolescent girls. The research employed a quantitative design with an analytic cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 64 female students at SMAN 7 Kendari. Samples were selected using stratified random sampling from the population that met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The inclusion criterion was female students of SMAN 7 Kendari who were in good health at the time of data collection, while the exclusion criteria were students who were menstruating during data collection, those with menstrual cycle disorders, and those with no history of malaria or worm infections based on a physician’s diagnosis. Data were collected through observation and interviews using a respondent characteristics questionnaire, along with dietary intake assessment using the SQ-FFQ method. Data analysis was performed using bivariate tests with the Chi-Square test at a significance level of α = 0.05. The bivariate analysis showed a significant relationship between protein intake (ρ = 0.026), iron intake (ρ = 0.000), and vitamin C intake (ρ = 0.001) with the incidence of anemia among adolescent girls at SMAN 7 Kendari.

Abstract

Dengue remains a major public health concern in Indonesia. In 2024, the incidence rate (IR) more than doubled (91.1) versus 2023 (41.4), while the case fatality rate (CFR) fell from 0.96% to 0.57%, underscoring the need to shift from curative care to community-based prevention. This descriptive observational study using a community-diagnosis approach assessed knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) for dengue prevention and household environmental conditions in RT 6 Selagalas Lama. The target population comprised 153 households; 60 respondents were selected with Slovin’s formula (10% margin of error). Data were collected via a KAP questionnaire and household environmental observations and analyzed descriptively (univariate). Most respondents showed good knowledge (86.7%) and positive attitudes (86.7%), yet preventive practices were suboptimal (good 28.3%; fair 35.0%; poor 36.7%). Household environments were predominantly poor (70.0%), with key misconceptions persisting (43.3% cited Anopheles as the vector; 46.7% believed dengue cannot be prevented). To address the K–A–P gap, we implemented hands-on, demonstration-based “3M Plus” education focused on weekly self-inspection of water-holding containers and improved personal protection (morning–afternoon protection; window/door screens and bed nets). The knowledge/attitude–practice gap remains a primary local risk; structured, measurable, demonstration-based interventions should be institutionalized and evaluated using practice indicators, vector indices, and clinical outcomes.

Abstract

Children with autism often have primary difficulties in social interaction, behavior, and communication, particularly in vocabulary acquisition. Enhanced Milieu Teaching (EMT) is one of the naturalistic-based methods aimed at improving language skills within the context of everyday play. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of the EMT method in increasing vocabulary in children with autism. It is an experimental study using a One-group Pretest-Posttest Design with a sample of 8 children with autism, aged 4-5 years, at Keanna Center, South Jakarta. The Receptive Verbal Vocabulary Test (TKV-R), which is valid and reliable in Indonesian, was used as the assessment. The intervention was conducted in 12 sessions, each lasting 45 minutes. There was an increase in 7 out of 8 vocabulary items in children with autism after receiving the EMT intervention. The analysis using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test showed an increase in the average score from 21 to 27 with a p-value of 0.018. This finding indicates that the EMT method is proven to be effective in improving vocabulary in children with autism.

Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus is a non-communicable disease that causes high morbidity and mortality, thus requiring proper and serious handling and treatment efforts. Data from the Kupang City Health Office shows that the Oesapa Community Health Center is the community health center with the highest cases of DM in Kupang City with a low achievement of 65.4% of the Oesapa Community Health Center's target of 100%. This study aims to determine the implementation of Minimum Service Standards (SPM) for diabetes mellitus patients at the Oesapa Community Health Center in Kupang City in 2024. This type of research is a qualitative descriptive study with 6 informants using a purposive technique. The results of the study indicate that input elements in the aspect of human resource availability have met the standards, sufficient funds, BMHP and medicines are available and examination tools such as glucometer tests are available. The service method provided is in accordance with the SOP. The market or target is in accordance with service standards, monitoring and evaluation are running well. The implementation of SPM at Oesapa Health Center has not reached 100% due to uneven training, unavailability of insulin, inconsistency of patients in conducting routine check-ups at Oesapa Health Center and late reporting from health posts due to low awareness of officers and busy daily services so that they do not input data on time. Therefore, the researcher suggests that the health center improve training for health workers, increase patient awareness through education, and establish a routine reporting schedule.
