MUKASI (Jurnal Ilmu Komunikasi) adalah jurnal ilmu komunikasi nasional peer-review yang diterbitkan oleh Yayasan Pendidikan Penelitian Pengabdian Algero yang terbit empat kali dalam setahun yaitu Februari, Mei, Agustus dan November. Abstract

This study aims to analyze the form of cognitive dissonance experienced by the character Kiran and examine the representation of social myths related to women and morality in the film Tuhan, Izinkan Aku Berdosa directed by Hanung Bramantyo. Employing a qualitative approach grounded in critical paradigm, the analysis is conducted through Roland Barthes' semiotics (denotation, connotation, myth) and Leon Festinger's cognitive dissonance framework, focusing on cinematic signs. The findings reveal Kiran's cognitive dissonance to be highly complex, primarily triggered by betrayal and the profound conflict between her deeply held beliefs and harsh reality. She attempts to reduce this dissonance through a radical cognitive shift, transforming her profession into a deliberate tool for revenge against perceived hypocrisy, even extending to a defiance of God. Nevertheless, her inner discomfort remains notably unresolved. Semiologically, the film powerfully debunks prevailing myths that link female morality to outward appearance or environment, alongside myths of religious hypocrisy and female purity that clash starkly with behavior. Moreover, it actively challenges myths of absolute obedience and divine justice. This research enriches the fields of film semiotics and communication psychology, providing profound insights into individual internal conflict and highlighting cinema's potential as a potent medium for social critique, fostering critical reflection on rigid moral standards and societal hypocrisy.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the representation of disability in the film Srikanth through John Fiske's semiotic approach. Using a qualitative method and media text analysis technique, the study explores the three levels of semiotic codes developed by Fiske: the codes of reality, representation, and ideology. The analysis reveals that Srikanth presents the narrative of a visually impaired individual not merely as an object of pity, but as a subject with agency, resilience, and a strategic role in society. At the level of reality codes, the character Srikanth is represented through body language, facial expressions, and dialogues that emphasize independence. The representation codes highlight how cinematography, props, and characters are constructed to build a positive image of disability. Meanwhile, the ideological codes convey values of inclusivity and the recognition of the rights of people with disabilities. This study affirms that Srikanth serves as a significant example in shifting the paradigm of disability representation in mainstream media, from stereotypical portrayals to more humanizing and empowering narratives.

Abstract

TikTok has grown into a dominant digital platform that plays a significant role in shaping social interactions, sharing virtual experiences, and distributing information quickly and widely. This study aims to evaluate the extent of the influence of the TikTok account @yoggi.130 on increasing tourist interest and visits to tourist destinations in Garut Regency. This study refers to the AIDA (Attention, Interest, Desire, Action) theory proposed by Kotler and Keller, which highlights the importance of persuasive communication strategies in influencing consumer decisions. Using a quantitative approach, data was collected through a survey of one hundred respondents who are active followers of the account. Data processing out using a simple linear regression model with the help of SPSS software version 22. The findings of this study revealed a significant positive correlation between the content published by the TikTok account @yoggi.130 and the level of followers' interest in conducting tourist visits, while the rest was influenced by other variables. These results confirm that the video content presented by @yoggi.130, which is informative, attractive, and consistently produced, is able to build a unique appeal that impacts followers' decisions to visit tourist destinations in Garut Regency.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of the level of social media addiction on gadget intoxication behavior among adolescents in the city of Surabaya. The approach used was quantitative with a survey method, involving 286 adolescent respondents aged 17–19 years who actively use social media every day. The research instrument was compiled based on indicators from the theory of behavioral addiction and analyzed using Pearson correlation test and simple linear regression. The results of the study showed that the level of social media addiction was in the high category and had a positive and significant influence on gadget drunk behavior. A correlation coefficient of 0.682 and an influence contribution of 46.5% showed that almost half of the variation in gadget drunk behavior was influenced by social media addiction. In addition, relationships with peers also reinforce these behavioral tendencies through social pressure and digital conformity. This research emphasizes the importance of digital literacy, self-regulation, parental supervision, and the active role of schools and society in preventing adolescents' addictive behavior towards gadgets and excessive use of social media.

Abstract

Effective communication is a fundamental aspect of human life that plays an important role in building harmonious interpersonal relationships, both in the family, education, and organizational environments. This study aims to analyze the role of effective communication in everyday life, analyze the benefits of effective communication in everyday life, the application of effective communication in the family, school and campus or organizational environment so as to determine the impact of effective communication in various environments based on theory and previous research results. Through the literature study method, it was found that effective communication not only involves delivering clear messages, but also listening with empathy and creating a shared understanding. The benefits of effective communication include misunderstandings that occur when communicating, increasing cooperation in various activities, and achieving common goals. The application of good communication in various contexts, such as family, campus, and society, shows a significant positive impact on the quality of relationships, life satisfaction, and productivity. Therefore, developing effective communication skills is an important investment to achieve personal and professional goals.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the digital communication strategies used by the Indonesian pencak silat community on social media platforms to enhance cultural imagery and encourage participatory engagement. The study seeks to understand how the community uses content, narratives, and interactions to maintain cultural identity while expanding its reach among younger audiences. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, data were collected through netnographic observation of social media activity on Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube, combined with in-depth interviews with key community members and followers. The results reveal that visual storytelling, hashtag campaigns, and interactive challenges are effective tools for cultural preservation and engagement. In addition, the community strategically positions silat not only as a martial art but also as a symbol of national identity. The study highlights how digital platforms can be participatory spaces that empower local traditions. The findings contribute to the discourse on digital cultural communication and offer practical insights for cultural communities seeking wider recognition in the digital era.

Abstract

As the Indonesian television industry continues to develop, it requires many media workers to produce programs that are liked by viewers, which enables them to get high ratings and shares. One of these media workers is the creative workers. These individuals often face demanding routines and workloads that do not align with their job descriptions. Additionally, they also have to face the risk of layoffs that rampantly hit major media in Indonesia, including on ANTV. This condition indicates the existence of commodification practices carried out by the media organization. In the commodification practices by Vincent Mosco, it is stated that media workers tend to receive low wages compared to their workload. Therefore, this study aims to explain how creative workers are commodified as media workers at the ANTV. To conduct the research, qualitative methods and a case study approach are used. As for the collection of research data, it was carried out through interviews, observations, and documentation. The findings reveal that commodification practices had occurred at the ANTV but were not noticed by the creative. Furthermore, creative workers are often required to complete multiple tasks outside of their job scope, despite receiving inadequate wages.

Abstract

Balinese art has its own peculiarities that are very attached to religious nuances. Its values are reflected in three main elements: satyam (truth, honesty), sivam (purity), and sundaram (beauty). As an integral part of Hindu culture, performing arts in Bali are not only a form of entertainment, but also a medium to convey religious teachings, mythology, and social and cultural values that are passed down through generations. In this case, cultural communication has a crucial role in building understanding, appreciation, and tolerance between cultural groups. This study uses a descriptive qualitative method to examine how digital media transformation affects the form, presentation, and meaning of Ogoh-ogoh performing arts. Data was obtained through digital observation of @infotampaksiring Instagram accounts and analyzed interpretively with a theoretical approach to cultural communication and digital media. Ogoh-ogoh symbolizes bhuta kala, a symbol of negative energy that needs to be neutralized ahead of Nyepi Day. The emergence of social media such as Instagram and TikTok has changed the way people present and interpret this tradition. Although it presents opportunities for cultural preservation, a contextual narrative is needed so that the spiritual and philosophical values of Ogoh-ogoh are maintained in the midst of the rapid flow of digitalization.

Abstract

This research explores the Pasar Digital Usaha Mikro, Kecil, dan Menengah (PaDi UMKM) platform, a notable B2B procurement platform that has attracted 127,000 MSMEs. Despite this, internal data indicates a significant participation gap. We applied a qualitative case study method, conducting interviews with employees and MSME actors, observing employee routines, and analyzing platform documentation. The study aimed to understand PaDi UMKM's innovation characteristics, development process, and communication strategies. Our findings categorize the platform as an innovative product, aligning with Rogers' innovation characteristics. Its development process is comprehensive, involving insight gathering, problem identification, research, idea generation, approval, testing, and launch. Innovation communication efforts were divided into five stages: knowledge, persuasion, decision, implementation, and confirmation. These were executed through various channels like social media content, brand activation programs, external collaborations, and MSME educational mentoring to foster sustainable adoption. Key barriers to long-term adoption identified were low digital literacy, platform bugs or errors, and administrative incompleteness. The study emphasizes the critical need for active involvement from diverse stakeholders to ensure the platform's sustained success.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the critical social construction developed by the online media Tirto.id in its coverage of the government policy banning retailers from selling 3 Kg LPG cylinders, issued by the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources in February 2025. The policy sparked broad public reaction due to its sudden implementation, lack of proper dissemination, and failure to consider the geographical and economic access of marginalized communities. In this context, media functions as a reality-construction agent that frames issues through particular perspectives. Using Robert N. Entman’s framing analysis model, this study explores how Tirto.id defines the problem, diagnoses the causes, makes moral judgments, and offers remedies regarding the issue. The findings show that Tirto.id consistently aligns with marginalized groups, presenting narratives, citizen testimonials, and expert critiques against the policy. The dominant framing emphasizes government failure to anticipate social impacts and highlights a lack of coordination among state agencies. Therefore, Tirto.id acts not only as an information channel but also as a public opinion shaper, advocating for social justice through its editorial stance. This study underscores the importance of media literacy and the role of critical journalism in holding public policies accountable.
