Abstract

This study aims to understand how sensemaking operates within the leadership communication practices of neighborhood leaders (RT heads) in maintaining environmental security in Ketapang Subdistrict, Tangerang City. Employing a descriptive qualitative approach with a case study design, data were collected through semi-structured interviews with two RT heads actively involved in community security efforts. Thematic analysis was conducted using NVivo software to map communication patterns and the formation of social values. The findings reveal that RT heads construct sensemaking by framing security threats based on their contextual realities, ranging from social issues like drug abuse to structural challenges such as inadequate public facilities. These interpretations inform the communication strategies and channels, including digital tools and face-to-face engagement. Furthermore, participatory decision-making processes produce technical responses and cultivate social values such as collective responsibility, information ethics, and anti-vigilantism. This study contributes to developing sensemaking theory in community leadership contexts and offers practical recommendations for local leaders in building participatory, value-based security systems. The research emphasizes the importance of contextual, inclusive, and ethical leadership communication in strengthening social cohesion and resilience at the grassroots level.

Abstract

This article aims to analyze the interaction patterns and distribution of sentiment in user comments on the Malaka Project YouTube video entitled “Memahami Danantara dengan Mudah”. This study uses a combined approach between sentiment analysis and Social Network Analysis (SNA) to gain a comprehensive understanding of the public response to the educational content. Data were collected using the YouTube Data API and analyzed quantitatively using Google Colab and visualized through the Gephi application. The results of the study show that the network formed has a diameter of 2, with density and reciprocity values of 0.000000 each, and a very low centralization of 0.0001861. This finding indicates that interaction between users in the comments olumn is very minimal and one-way, without any meaningful two-way communication. However, the modularity value of 0.735 indicates that the comments form certain clusters that represent communities with similar interests or discussion topics. In terms of sentiment, positive comments dominate with a total of 1,843 uploads, followed by neutral comments of 2,824 and negative comments of 1,217. This shows that despite low user interaction, the perception of the content is generally positive and well received by the majority of viewers.

Abstract

This study discusses the Melukat ritual practice in Suranadi Village, West Lombok, as a form of ritual communication that reflects Hindu spiritual values while also serving as a means of strengthening religious moderation in a multicultural society. Through a qualitative approach involving observation, interviews, and analysis within the framework of symbolic interactionism theory, this study found that ritual symbols such as tirtha (holy water), mantras, and bodily movements in Melukat are not only religiously meaningful but also form symbolic communication that connects humans, nature, and God. Hindu philosophical values such as tat tvam asi, ahimsa, and tri hita karana are manifested in the actions of the faithful, creating harmony within the self, society, and the cosmos. In the context of a diverse society, Melukat has proven to be an inclusive and tolerant practice. Its implementation is open to the participation of people of different faiths and is respected as part of the local cultural heritage. Thus, this ritual functions as an instrument for maintaining interfaith harmony. This study also emphasises the importance of symbolic interaction in the formation of shared meaning and collective identity. Recommendations are directed towards the development of comparative, interfaith, and interdisciplinary approaches to expand understanding of religious communication based on local traditions.

Abstract

This study aims to examine how female consumers, particularly young mothers, construct and express their social identity through their consumption experiences at Collega Coffee, a coffee shop located in Garut Regency. Using a qualitative approach with a phenomenological method, this research collected data through in-depth interviews with loyal female consumers, supported by social media observations. The use of Social Identity Theory and Symbolic Interactionism reveals that consumers actively form a sense of belonging and self-representation through interactions with the brand and its environment. The study finds that Collega Coffee functions not only as a place to enjoy coffee but also as a symbolic social space where identity construction occurs. Consumers engage in symbolic actions, such as dressing appropriately, selecting conversation topics, and sharing visits on social media, reflecting their alignment with certain social values and groups. The research highlights the role of coffee shops in modern consumer culture, especially as a medium for women to express autonomy, connection, and self-actualization. Ultimately, Collega Coffee is a significant site for the social identity construction of its female customers.

Abstract

This study aims to examine how audiences interpret the concept of fatherhood through the TikTok content of @Abe_daily, which portrays an affectionate and actively involved father figure. Fatherhood is not only about financial responsibility but also involves emotional engagement, caregiving, and an active presence in a child’s life. In Indonesia, however, traditional parenting norms still prevail, where fathers are primarily viewed as breadwinners, contributing to the phenomenon of fatherlessness. The rise of new media, particularly TikTok, has created a platform for reshaping public perceptions of fatherhood. Using Stuart Hall’s encoding-decoding theory, this study analyzes how fatherhood is constructed in digital media and how audiences interpret such representations. The research employs a qualitative reception analysis method, collecting data through in-depth interviews with selected informants. The findings reveal three categories of audience interpretation: dominant (agreeing with the portrayal of modern fatherhood), negotiated (recognizing positive values while considering cultural factors), and oppositional (rejecting the idea due to traditional views). The study highlights the role of social media in shaping new ideals of fatherhood, challenging patriarchal norms, and offering positive role models. These findings suggest that the concept of fatherhood is evolving, influenced by media portrayals and societal perceptions. This research contributes to discussions on the role of digital media in reconstructing family structures and parenting practices in Indonesia.

Abstract

This study aims to understand the interpersonal communication patterns of fatherless women whose fathers exhibited signs of mental illness within the cultural framework of the Sundanese community. Utilizing a transcendental phenomenological approach, qualitative data were collected through in-depth interviews with four informants who had experienced emotional absence and communication breakdown with their fathers during childhood. The findings reveal that persistent emotional absence and dysfunctional communication in the father-child relationship created significant barriers to openness, contributed to emotional regulation difficulties, and fostered unhealthy attachment styles in adult romantic relationships. Family communication manifested as one-directional, closed, or emotionally tense interactions—reflecting the five dimensions of interpersonal communication theory by Joseph A. DeVito. Psychological insights confirm that unresolved early emotional wounds influence relational dynamics in adulthood. This study contributes to communication scholarship by highlighting the intersection of cultural values and family communication structures in shaping emotional resilience. It underscores the critical role of emotional presence and open dialogue within familial and cultural systems as protective factors for the psychological well-being of fatherless women. Implications for culturally sensitive family interventions and research directions are discussed.

Abstract

This study explores the digital public relations strategy implemented by the Museum of Indonesian Plantation (Musperin) in building institutional image and expanding audience engagement in the digital communication era. Adopting a qualitative approach with a case study method, data were collected through direct observation and semi-structured interviews with museum management. The findings reveal that Musperin utilizes social media not merely for promotion, but also as an educational and participatory two-way communication platform. The strategy is analyzed using five digital PR elements proposed by Phillips & Young: transparency, porosity, the internet as an agent and content richness. Moreover, Musperin integrates Islamic communication values such as qaulan sadidan (truthful speech), fathanah (wisdom), and qaulan baligha (impactful delivery) in conveying its messages. These principles ensure that the institution communicates with honesty, intelligence, and clarity. The study concludes that a digital PR strategy that is adaptive, value-driven, and participatory is effective in enhancing institutional credibility and fostering audience trust, particularly among digital-native generations. The findings also suggest that such strategies can be applied to other thematic museums as a model for strengthening institutional presence and public engagement through creative, ethical, and interactive digital platforms.

Abstract

This study explores the brand image of Universitas Andalas through the lens of inbound students participating in the Pertukaran Mahasiswa Merdeka Batch 4 program. Using a qualitative method with a constructivist paradigm and descriptive approach, data were gathered from in-depth interviews with ten students from various Indonesian provinces. Findings reveal that Universitas Andalas developed a positive brand image across five dimensions of Aaker’s theory: brand awareness, brand association, perceived quality, brand loyalty, and supporting factors. The brand image was shaped not only by pre-arrival information but also by academic, cultural, and social experiences during the program. Students described the campus as emotionally engaging and worth recommending. Some participants, however, noted areas for improvement, including internal communication and information systems. This study concludes that brand image in higher education is influenced more by personal experiences than by reputation alone, offering valuable insights for educational branding and student exchange program development.
