Abstract

Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) in Indonesia, particularly in Banten, play a central role in transmitting Islamic knowledge, especially fiqh. However, the dominance of a single school of thought often results in limited exposure to diverse Islamic legal perspectives. This study aims to: (1) examine the philosophical foundation for developing cross-madhhab fiqh materials in modern pesantren based on the Kulliyatul Mu‘allimin al-Islamiyyah (KMI) system; (2) analyze the current implementation of cross-madhhab fiqh learning in Banten; and (3) formulate a systematic development model. Using a Research and Development (R&D) approach with the Dick and Carey model, the study followed ten stages from needs analysis to field testing. Data were collected through observation, interviews, documentation, and questionnaires, and analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively. The findings show that the philosophical foundation of cross-madhhab learning is rooted in religious moderation, respect for classical jurisprudence, and responsiveness to contemporary needs. However, implementation remains limited, often confined to final-grade students and dominated by the Bahtsul Masail method. The proposed model integrates fiqh muqaran (comparative), maqasid al-shari‘ah, and problem-based learning, supported by cross-madhhab references and case-based evaluation. The model effectively enhances students’ understanding, tolerance, and active participation, offering a relevant framework for inclusive fiqh education

Abstract

This study is grounded in the critical importance of effective management of the Cultural Arts Subject Teacher Forum (MGMP) in enhancing the professional competence of junior high school teachers, particularly within the context of implementing the Merdeka Curriculum. Despite its strategic role, empirical studies that comprehensively link MGMP management processes with measurable outputs, outcomes, and impacts remain limited. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the management of the Cultural Arts MGMP in the Majenang Regional Commission, Cilacap Regency, focusing on process, output, outcome, and impact dimensions in improving teachers’ professional competence and the quality of instruction. This study employed a descriptive method with a qualitative approach, utilizing a case study design. The research subjects included MGMP administrators, Cultural Arts teachers, school principals, and supervisors. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and document analysis. The data analysis followed the interactive model of Miles and Huberman, involving data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. Data validity was ensured through triangulation of techniques, sources, and time. The findings reveal that: (1) MGMP management has been implemented systematically through needs-based planning, structured organization, collaborative implementation, and continuous evaluation and follow-up; (2) the outputs of the MGMP include instructional materials, artistic works, and improvements in teachers’ practical skills that are both applicable and collaborative in nature; (3) the outcomes indicate an enhancement in teachers’ professional competence, particularly in planning, implementing, and evaluating Cultural Arts instruction; and (4) the impact is reflected in the improved quality of teaching and learning, as evidenced by increased student engagement and improved learning outcomes. In conclusion, the Cultural Arts MGMP functions as an effective professional learning community that significantly contributes to enhancing both teacher competence and instructional quality.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze pesantren leadership based on Bugis cultural values in transforming the religious character of students at DDI Ujung Lare Islamic Boarding School, Parepare. The primary focus of this research lies in how Bugis cultural values such as siri’, lempu’, sipakatau, and pacce are integrated into leadership practices and their impact on shaping students’ religious character. This study employs a qualitative approach with a descriptive research design. Data were collected through interviews, participatory observation, and documentation. The informants consisted of the pesantren leader, teachers, dormitory supervisors, and students. Data analysis was conducted interactively through the stages of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that the school leadership functions not only as a policymaker but also as a primary role model in the internalization of religious values. This exemplary leadership is reflected in active involvement in religious activities, consistency between words and actions, and a humanistic and participatory communication style. The integration of Bugis cultural values in leadership is evident in the application of lempu’ (honesty and integrity), sipakatau (mutual respect), pacce (social empathy), and siri’ (discipline and self-respect). These values are not merely taught theoretically but are also implemented in the daily practices of the pesantren. Bugis culture-based leadership has proven effective in fostering a strong and sustainable religious culture. This is reflected in the habituation of worship practices, ethical social interactions, and increased student participation in religious and social activities. The process of value internalization occurs through habituation, observation, and imitation of the behaviors demonstrated by leaders and the pesantren environment. Furthermore, adaptive and persuasive leadership contributes to social stability, minimizes conflict, and fosters harmonious relationships among leaders, teachers, and students. In conclusion, this study affirms that pesantren leadership grounded in Bugis cultural values plays a strategic role in transforming students’ religious character. The integration of local cultural values into leadership practices serves as an effective model for contextual character education, rooted in local wisdom and relevant in addressing the challenges of modernization. Theoretically, this study enriches the discourse on culturally grounded educational leadership by integrating Bugis local wisdom into character education, while practically it provides a contextual leadership model that can be adopted by Islamic boarding schools and other educational institutions to strengthen students’ religious character through local cultural values

Abstract

This study aims to examine Muhammadiyah's thinking on bank interest through the analysis of the ijtihad method used in determining bank interest law in the perspective of contemporary Islam. The issue of bank interest is an issue that continues to be debated in Islamic economic discourse because it is related to the practice of usury, the development of the modern financial system, and the public's need for banking institutions. This research uses a qualitative approach with a type of library research and a normative-philosophical approach. Data were obtained from official documents of Muhammadiyah, fatwa of the Tarjih and Tajdid Councils, scientific journals, books, and relevant academic articles. The data collection technique is carried out through documentation and literature study, while the data analysis technique uses data reduction, classification, interpretation, and drawing conclusions in a deductive-analytical manner. The results of the study show that Muhammadiyah views bank interest as an ijtihadiyah issue that is decided through the bayani, burhani, and istislahi approaches. Muhammadiyah tends to prohibit bank interest because it is considered to have additional elements that are close to usury, but still considers the benefits and socio-economic conditions of modern society. The findings of the study show that there is a moderate ijtihad pattern of Muhammadiyah that seeks to integrate normative texts with contemporary economic realities. This research contributes to the development of an Islamic economic ijtihad methodology that is more adaptive to the dynamics of the modern financial system.

Abstract

This study is grounded in the growing demand for vocational education that not only produces technically competent graduates but also cultivates moderate religious character and professional work ethics. It aims to analyze the transformation of curriculum management based on Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) values in improving the quality of vocational education at SMK Ma’arif NU 02 Kemiri Purworejo. The study employed a qualitative approach with a phenomenological research design. The research participants included the principal, the vice principal for curriculum affairs, and teaching staff. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and document analysis. Data trustworthiness was ensured through source and technique triangulation, member checking with participants, and prolonged engagement in observation to enhance the credibility of the findings. Data analysis was conducted using interactive techniques involving data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that the transformation of curriculum management was implemented through four main stages: (1) curriculum planning based on the integration of vocational competencies and NU values; (2) curriculum organization through the distribution of professional responsibilities, management of learning schedules, and provision of supporting facilities; (3) curriculum implementation at both school and classroom levels through the development of a religious culture and practice-based learning; and (4) curriculum evaluation through formative and summative assessments as part of a continuous quality assurance system. The study confirms that the integration of NU values throughout the entire curriculum management cycle serves as a strategic factor in enhancing the quality of vocational education. The novelty of this research lies in its curriculum management transformation model based on the values of a religious organization, which systematically integrates occupational competencies, religious moderation, and a religious school culture

Abstract

This research is motivated by the urgency of integrating ecological values into curriculum management and local history education as a manifestation of the human ethical responsibility as khalifah fil ardh (stewards of the earth). The purpose of this study is to analyze the phenomenon of integrating ecological issues through the Cultural Ecology Learning Model (MPEB) based on Islamic Education Management in the Local History course at Universitas Riyadlul Ulum Tasikmalaya, as well as its impact on historical tourism in Ciamis. This research employs a qualitative approach with a case study method to explore the complexity of policy implementation. Data were collected through participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation studies, then analyzed using triangulation techniques and the analysis model by Creswell (2014). The results indicate that the integration of Galendo-based gastronomy in MPEB successfully constructed a transformative historical understanding, shifting the anthropocentric paradigm to an ecocentric one through the MERDEKA pathway. The study concludes that MPEB serves as an effective Islamic Education Management framework for integrating local history as a research basis for contemporary ecological problem-solving and green economy empowerment in alignment with rahmatan lil alamin values
