Abstract

Indonesia's natural wealth positions tourism as a leading sector, where grand forest parks serve a strategic role as both conservation areas and open learning spaces. Despite their strong educational potential, the specific factors driving Generation Z's visitation decisions to destinations such as Ir. H. Djuanda Grand Forest Park (Tahura) require in-depth study, particularly regarding the aspect of learning experiences. This research aims to analyze the influence of nature-based learning experiences on the visitation decisions of Generation Z tourists. Utilizing a quantitative approach with simple linear regression analysis on 40 respondents, the results indicate that nature-based learning experiences have a positive and significant impact on visitation decisions. The primary findings reveal that educational and emotional interactions in nature can explain up to 21% of the variation in tourists' decision-making. In conclusion, meaningful learning experiences are a key factor in shaping positive perceptions and the interest of Generation Z toward natural destinations.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the influence of halal facilities and service quality on Muslim tourists' visit intention to Taman Sari Yogyakarta, with perceived value serving as a moderating variable. The research employed a quantitative approach using a survey method involving 50 Muslim tourists who had previously visited Taman Sari Yogyakarta. The sample was selected through purposive sampling based on specific criteria, namely Muslim tourists who had visited the destination and were willing to participate in the study. Data were analyzed using Moderated Regression Analysis (MRA) with the assistance of IBM SPSS Statistics 27. The results indicate that halal facilities do not have a significant effect on Muslim tourists' visit intention. Likewise, service quality does not significantly influence visit intention. In contrast, perceived value has a positive and significant effect on visit intention. Furthermore, the moderating analysis reveals that perceived value is unable to moderate the relationship between halal facilities and visit intention. However, perceived value significantly moderates the relationship between service quality and visit intention in a positive direction. These findings suggest that Muslim tourists place greater emphasis on the value derived from their tourism experience rather than on halal facilities or service quality alone. Therefore, managers of cultural tourism destinations should focus on enhancing tourists' perceived value and overall travel experience in order to increase visit intention.

Abstract

Indonesia is one of the countries most vulnerable to natural disasters, making tourism safety and security a critical component of sustainable tourism development. Although research on disasters and tourism safety has continued to expand, the evolution of its intellectual structure and major research themes in Indonesia has not yet been comprehensively mapped. This study aims to analyze the development of research on disasters and tourism safety in Indonesia during the period 2016–2025. A bibliometric approach was employed. Data were collected from Google Scholar, and publications meeting the inclusion criteria were analyzed and visualized using VOSviewer to identify publication trends, citation patterns, collaboration networks, and the thematic structure of the research. The findings indicate that publications on disasters and tourism safety in Indonesia have increased consistently over the past decade. Tourism safety has emerged as one of the primary research focuses and the most frequently referenced themes. However, the keyword network remains relatively simple and exhibits limited thematic diversity, while also indicating a shift in research approaches. This study concludes that tourism safety has evolved into an essential component of sustainable tourism development in Indonesia. Future research is recommended to expand bibliographic data sources, strengthen interdisciplinary collaboration, and explore risk communication, digital transformation, and collaborative governance as key research agendas.

Abstract

The increasing demand for authentic cultural tourism has created a paradox in which tourism development may threaten cultural authenticity while the absence of economic value may lead to the abandonment of cultural heritage. This study aims to analyze the Osing community model in maintaining traditional houses as living heritage as a form of resistance to the paradox of cultural tourism in Kemiren Village, Banyuwangi, Indonesia. The research employed a qualitative case study with an ethnographic approach. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, documentation, and field notes involving customary leaders, traditional house owners, tourism managers, community leaders, and visitors. Data analysis followed Spradley's ethnographic procedures, including domain, taxonomic, componential, and cultural theme analyses. The findings reveal that the sustainability of Osing traditional houses is supported by four interconnected elements: maintaining their residential function, preserving customary rituals, ensuring community-based management, and strengthening local economic benefits through tourism. These elements position traditional houses not merely as cultural artifacts but as living heritage embedded in everyday life. The study concludes that the Osing community has developed a community-based resistance model capable of maintaining cultural authenticity while ensuring economic sustainability, thereby addressing the paradox between cultural commodification and heritage abandonment in cultural tourism

Abstract

Conservation-based ecotourism development requires the involvement of local communities so that the economic benefits of tourism activities can go hand in hand with environmental sustainability. Situ Gunung, Sukabumi Regency, is an ecotourism area that involves local communities in various tourism service and conservation activities. This study aims to analyze the role of local communities in supporting conservation-based ecotourism, identify forms of community participation in maintaining environmental sustainability, and analyze the supporting and inhibiting factors affecting community involvement. This study employed a descriptive method with a qualitative approach and was conducted in June 2026. A total of 16 informants were selected through purposive sampling. The results showed that local communities play a role in the hospitality supply chain by providing culinary services, local transportation, tour guiding, and equipment rental. Communities are also involved in destination governance and security through partnerships, patrols, and monitoring, as well as in cleanliness and conservation through waste collection, communal activities, and conservation initiatives. Community participation takes the forms of spontaneous and induced participation. Supporting factors include economic opportunities, tourists’ needs, local knowledge, environmental awareness, and partnerships, while inhibiting factors include limited access to business opportunities, licensing requirements, competency requirements, limited monitoring capacity, and tourist behavior involving littering. Therefore, strengthening community capacity, expanding access to business opportunities, improving competencies, and strengthening coordination between local communities and destination managers are necessary to achieve sustainable ecotourism.

Abstract

Museums play an important role in preserving and disseminating information about culture, art, history, and science to the public. In Indonesia, which is rich in cultural heritage, museums have significant potential to be developed as educational tourism destinations that combine entertainment and learning (edutainment). In addition to serving as places for preserving historical artifacts, museums also function as educational media that provide students with learning experiences about history, culture, and the development of civilization by integrating tourism and learning activities (Panggabean, 2017). This study aims to identify and synthesize approaches used to develop museums in Indonesia as educational and cultural tourism destinations. The study employs a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) using a qualitative approach. Relevant literature was identified through Google Scholar using keywords related to museum development strategies, museum management, tourism, educational tourism, and cultural tourism. Based on the established inclusion and exclusion criteria, ten articles were identified and analyzed through data extraction and descriptive-narrative meta-synthesis. The findings reveal four main pillars of museum development strategies in Indonesia: educational attractions and interpretation (edutainment and living museums), facilities and hospitality services, digitalization and destination marketing, and stakeholder synergy. These four pillars work together to create a quality visitor experience and support the transformation of museums into attractive, adaptive, and sustainable educational and cultural tourism destinations. The findings provide museum managers and tourism stakeholders with a strategic framework for integrating education, facilities, technology, marketing, and institutional collaboration in museum development.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the development of processed mandai products as a local wisdom-based culinary innovation based on consumer assessments. A descriptive quantitative approach was employed, with data collected through organoleptic testing using a hedonic scale involving 30 respondents selected through an accidental sampling technique. The evaluated attributes included color, aroma, taste, texture, and overall preference. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive analysis to describe consumer acceptance levels and SWOT analysis to identify the product's strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats in formulating appropriate development strategies. The results indicate that processed mandai products received positive evaluations across all organoleptic attributes, with taste obtaining the highest score among the assessed indicators. Based on the SWOT analysis, the product has significant opportunities for further development through flavor diversification, improved packaging quality, optimized digital marketing strategies, and broader market segmentation. Therefore, processed mandai has strong potential to become a local wisdom-based culinary innovation that increases the added value of cempedak peel, strengthens product competitiveness, supports the preservation of Kalimantan's traditional culinary heritage, and contributes to the development of a sustainable creative economy based on local resources.

Abstract

Medical tourism has become a strategic policy that integrates healthcare, tourism, and investment to promote economic growth and public value. Indonesia has established the Sanur Special Economic Zone (SEZ) — inaugurated in June 2025 with Bali International Hospital (BIH) as its anchor — as its first health SEZ, a response to the substantial outflow of citizens seeking treatment abroad, estimated by the government at around USD 11.5 billion (≈ Rp 180 trillion) annually. This study analyses collaborative governance in the medical tourism development policy of the Sanur SEZ, identifies the factors that shape cross-sector collaboration, and proposes a conceptual model for sustainable development. Using a qualitative, document-based policy analysis, the study synthesises government regulations, official reports, and peer-reviewed literature through the Collaborative Governance Regime (CGR) framework of Emerson, Nabatchi, and Balogh, integrated with Moore's Public Value Theory and situated within cross-sector and network-governance scholarship. The analysis proposes that collaborative leadership, institutional capacity, regulatory support, and stakeholder coordination are the conditions most likely to enable effective implementation, and that collaboration among government, state-owned enterprises, private investors, healthcare providers, academia, and communities can advance healthcare quality, destination competitiveness, and economic benefit only when its gains are equitably distributed and the two-tier risks characteristic of medical tourism are actively managed. The study contributes the Medical Tourism Collaborative Value Network (MTCVN), a conceptual model that positions public value creation as the proposed mediating mechanism linking collaborative governance to sustainable medical tourism development, together with six testable propositions and policy recommendations for Indonesia's medical tourism ecosystem.
