Abstract

Development and development of the quality of farming communities in carrying out farming is one aspect that supports the creation of increased agricultural production and productivity, so that profits can be increased. Agricultural development, especially horticultural crops that have been implemented, has made a positive contribution to economic development. The clearer and more obvious that the economic system is, the more it is influenced by the agricultural sector. This sector has an impact on the sustainability of the income of farmers in an area.Cultivation of vegetable crops in Indonesia is generally carried out with monoculture and polyculture cropping patterns. Monoculture is a cultivation system in an area of land planted with only one type of plant. Meanwhile, polyculture is a system of plant cultivation in the same area of land in one year planted with several types of plants, both planted at the same time or slightly different times. The development of pests and diseases tends to occur more easily in monoculture cropping patterns because food sources for pests and pathogens are always available. On the other hand, a polyculture cropping pattern followed by a crop rotation pattern can break the life cycle of pests and diseases.Crop rotation has many advantages. In some organic crop cultivation systems, crop rotation is highly recommended. Some of the advantages of crop rotation are that it can reduce the intensity of pest or disease attacks, increase soil fertility, and crop rotation is highly recommended. Some of the advantages of crop rotation are that it reduces the intensity of pest or disease attacks, increases soil fertility, and is able to form a stable micro-ecosystem. In addition, in the agribusiness world, several types of commodities, especially vegetables, are able to meet the desired market demand.

Abstract

Identification of Soil Chemical Properties in Citrus Plants (Citrus sp.) Tigapanah District, Karo Regency. North Sumatra Province is one of the provinces in Indonesia where most of the population earns a living in agriculture, including citrus plants. This study aims to identify the chemical properties of the soil in Jeruk fields, to determine the condition of the land and determine recommendations for the management of Jeruk fields in Tigapanah District, Karo Regency. The research was carried out from December 2022 to March 2023 in Tigapanah District, Karo Regency. Soil test activities were carried out at the Research and Development Center Laboratory of PT. Nusa Pusaka Kencana Analytical & Oc. Bagulung Gardens Laboratory, Tebing Tinggi, North Sumatra. The end result of the entire series of analyzes mentioned above is the identification of chemical properties of Jeruk fields in Tigapanah District, Karo Regency and recommendations for land management to be carried out in order to increase the productivity of Citrus plants in Tigapanah District, Karo Regency. The chemical characteristics of the soil in Jeruk field, Tigapanah District, Karo Regency, namely soil pH is classified as neutral, base saturation is moderate, Cation Exchange Capacity is moderate, available-P is high and C-organic is high. The chemical fertility status of the soil in Jeruk fields in Tigapanah District, Karo Regency is classified as Medium.

Abstract

Karo regency is center for carrot (Daucus carota L.) production in North Sumatra. It is estimated more than 1% of the rejected carrot yields are produced in each planting period. With the predicted harvest area, more than 1,000 tons of rejected carrots will be produced annually. This potential can be used as the material for the manufacture of liquid organic fertilizer (LOF). There are three research variables that were carried out, namely: 1) Independent variables consisting of fermentation periode consisting of 10 days, 20 days, 30 days and 40 days. 2) Fixed variable consisting of 4 kg of rejected carrots, 5 liters of water, 5 liters of old coconut water, 0.6 liters of brown sugar water, 0.05 kg of yeast, 0.5 liters of EM-4. 3) Bond variables consist of C-Organic content, Phosphorus content, Potassium content  and Nitrogen and pH content. The results showed that the peak of microorganism activity occurred on the 30th day. This treatment obtained the highest proportions of 0.07%, 0.14%, 0.87%  for Nitrogen, Phosphorus and Potassium levels respectively. The highest C-Organic content was obtained in the H-20 and H-30 treatments with a proportion of 1.55%. The acidity level was stable at a value range of 3.5 from the start to the end of the quenching process. LOF carrots produced are still not in accordance with established quality standards. The percentage value of macro elements, C-Organic and pH is still below the set quality standards.

Abstract

Research has been carried out using Mabar Compost and NPK Yara Mila 16:16;16 on lettuce (Lactuca Sativa L.). The aim of the study was to determine the effect of Mabar Compost Fertilizer, the effect of NPK Yara Mila 16:16:16, and the effect of the interaction between the two types of fertilizer on the growth and yield of lettuce plants. The study used a factorial randomized block design consisting of two factors. Factor I: Dosage of Mabar Compost with the symbol "K", namely K0: 0 Control (without treatment), K1: 350 grams/plot, K2: 550 grams/plot, and K3: 750 grams/plot. Factor II: Dosage of NPK fertilizer with the symbol "P", namely P0: 0 Control (without treatment), P1: 18 grams/plot, P2: 24 grams/plot, P3: 30 grams/plot. The results showed that Mabar Compost Fertilizer and NPK Fertilizer had no significant effect on the height and number of leaves of lettuce plants. Mabar Compost Fertilizer had a significant effect on the yield weight of fresh lettuce plants. The average yield weight of plants affected by compost was K0 (109.4 gr), not significantly different from K1 (120.2gr) but significantly different from K2 (125.4 gr) and K3 (165.2 gr). No interaction was found between the type of fertilizer and the dose of fertilizer on the research parameters.

Abstract

The next step after designing the composter is to test the performance of the composter. It is very important to observe the composting process find out the optimum type of composter to use both in the rate of composting and the compost produced. The aims of this research was to compare aerobic and anaerobic composters on composting rates and the compost. The method used was quasi-experimental by comparing the performance of the composter both in terms of composting speed, temperature, humidity, degree of acidity, color and smell of the compost. The results showed that anaerobic composting had a better rate (12 days) than the aerobic method (25 days). The composting process using an aerobic composter required a slightly higher temperature (36oC) than an anaerobic composter (32.5oC). The composting process using an aerobic composter has an average humidity value of 60.75 while that of an anaerobic composter is 68.54. Anaerobic composter showed almost the same value as the aerobic method for the degree of acidity. In terms of odor and color measurements, anaerobic composters produced a more pungent odor and a blackish brown color.

Abstract

Peternakan adalah suatu kegiatan yang dilakukan untuk membudidayakan ternak agar mendapatkan manfaat dan hasil dari kegiatan tersebut. Saat ini sistem peternakan dengan konsep closed house lebih direkomendasikan oleh para peternak, karena beberapa peternak telah membuktikan bahwa dengan menggunakan sistem closed house mampu meningkatkan kualitas daging ayam tersebut dan memiliki daya saing yang lebih baik sehingga keuntungan peternak semakin besar. Analisis pendapatan sangat perlu dilakukan pada usaha peternakan ayam karena dengan melakukan analisis pendapatan pada usaha peternakan tersebut pelaku usaha dapat mengetahui besar pendapatan yang diperolehnya dan menjadi lebih selektif mengenai prospek usaha peternakan ayam pedaging dimasa yang akan datang. Penelitian ini dilakukan di Kecamatan Pantai Cermin Kabupaten Serdang Bedagai Provinsi Sumatera Utara. Pendapatan yang diterima usaha peternakan ayam pedaging ini dalam sekali proses produksi adalah sebesar Rp.93.641.479, yang diperoleh dari hasil pengurangan total penerimaan dengan total biaya produksi usaha peternakan ayam pedaging tersebut. Sedangkan nilai R/C ratio yang diperoleh usaha peternakan ayam pedaging dengan sistem closed house di Kecamatan Pantai Cermin Kabupaten Serdang Bedagai yaitu sebesar 1,16. Nilai R/C ratio 1,16 dapat diartikan bahwa setiap Rp.100 biaya yang dikeluarkan maka diperoleh penerimaan sebesar Rp.116.

Abstract

Research on the effect of plant spacing and weeding time on the growth and production of carrots (Daucus carota L) has been well carried out in February-May 2021 at UPT. Kutagadung Horticulture Parent Seeds. Berastagi District, Karo Regency, North Sumatra. The aim of the study was to determine the effect of spacing and weeding time on the growth and yield of carrots. The results showed that the average plant height affected by the distance between J1 18.5 cm and J2 16.4 cm and J3 15.2. cm and the average height of the influence of weeding, namely M0 (17 cm) was significantly different from M1 (16.5 cm), M2 (16.6 cm), and M4 (16.5 cm). The effect of spacing (J) on tuber length showed that J1 (17.51 cm) was significantly different from J2 (18.22 cm) and J3 (18.23 cm). The effect of spacing (J) treatment on tuber diameter showed that J1 (3.36 cm) was significantly different from J2 (3.79 cm), and significantly different from J3 (5.27 cm), the effect of weeding time (M0) 3, 52 cm was significantly different from M1 (4.14 cm), M2 (4.25 cm), M3 (4.34 cm), and M4 (4.47 cm), and the combination treatment J1M0 resulted in the smallest tuber size of 3.1 cm. and the largest in J3M4 is 5.75 cm. The combination of J3M4 produced the highest tuber diameter of 5.75 cm which was the optimum treatment. The effect of plant spacing on tuber weight per sample was found that J1 (86.47 gr) was significantly different from J2 (101.82 gr) and J3 (186.48 gr), the effect of the weeding time factor M0 (70.24 gr) was significantly different from M1 (135.41 gr), M2 (137 gr), M3 (137.88), and M4 (144.08 gr)

Abstract

Farmers' motivation to plant carrots (Daucus carota L.) in Simpang Empat District, Karo Regency. Carrot (Daucus carota L.) is one of the leading commodities in Karo Regency. The motivation of farmers as carrot plant business developers is a situation that spurs farmers to do a business, what is the basis for farmers to plant carrots, obstacles in growing carrots and what benefits can be obtained from planting carrots. The aims of the research were to find out: (1) farmers' motivation in planting carrots; (2) factors influencing farmer motivation; (3) the relationship between the factors that influence motivation and the motivation of farmers in planting carrots. The research method is a quantitative method with survey techniques. The research is located in Simpang Empat District, Karo Regency. Sampling using accidental sampling technique as many as 20 farmers. Motivation was analyzed using a questionnaire based on assessment criteria in an effort to find out how the level of motivation of farmers in planting carrots (Daucus carota L.) in Simpang Empat District, Karo Regency

Abstract

Maggot memanfaatkan limbah organik sebagai sumber makanan, kemampuan maggot dalam mengurai sampah organik terkait dengan kandungan beberapa bakteri yang terdapat pada saluran pencernaan. Lalat jenis Black Soldier Fly mempunyai ukuran lebih besar dari lalat lainnya dan lalat jenis ini tidak menimbulkan penyakit karena masa hidupnya hanya untuk kawin dan bereproduksi. Upaya untuk meningkatkan kualitas pakan juga dipengaruhi adanya sumber protein hewani. Pakan yang belakangan ini cukup populer sebagai sumber protein hewani yang tinggi protein dan harganya terjangkau yaitu maggot BSF. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui media sampah organik seperti sabut kelapa muda, sampah restoran, kotoran ayam dan kotoran puyuh yang dapat meningkatkan kualitas pupuk organik dengan bantuan larva maggot BSF. Penelitian menggunakan metode Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) non faktorial dengan pemberian variasi jenis campuran bahan organik dan beberapa perlakuan bahan organik kepada larva BSF. Hasil penelitian menunjukan, bahwa pemberian maggot dengan sabut kelapa muda tanpa dicampur dengan sampah organik sangat berpengaruh nyata terhadap laju pertumbuhan biomassa awal terhadap biomassa akhir maggot dari pakan yang dikonsumsi, menentukan bobot maggot yang paling maksimal dan mengetahui konsumsi substrat. Pemberian magot dengan sabut kelapa muda pada perlakuan SKM 1 berpengaruh nyata terhadap kadar C organik frass yang dihasilkan, yaitu sebesar 40,71% dan pada prameter C/N perlakuan SKM 1 (sabut kelapa muda + Larva maggot) menunjukan hasil yang nyata sebesar 74,54%. Akan tetapi pemberian sabut kelapa muda pada perlakuan SKM 1 tidak berpengaruh nyata terhadap biomassa akhir maggot, dikarenakan perlakuan pada SKM 1 menghasilkan lebih sedikit frass, lebih banyak residu kasar dan juga menyebabkan larva berukuran kecil dan kurus yang menunjukan larva tersebut tidak mampu mendegradasi sabut kelapa dengan baik, hal ini disababkan karena sabut kelapa muda mengandung selulosa (32%), lignin (38%), dan hemiselulosa (0,25%) sehingga susah dicerna oleh larva BSF.

Abstract

The leek production center is Karo district, data on the planting area and harvest of leeks in Karo district in 2020 is 506 ha and a harvested area of 547 ha. for the average selling price of Rp. 5952/kg (Source: Central Bureau of Statistics 2020). Likewise with the data obtained from Merdeka District that the harvested area is 363 Ha with a production of 4433 tons with an average production of 12.12 ha/ton (Source: Central Statistics Agency 2020). Based on the description above, it can be concluded that Karo Regency is a source of leek commodity. And the biggest producer is in the village that produces spring onions, namely Gongsol Village, Merdeka District, Karo Regency, North Sumatra Province. Therefore, the researchers wanted to conduct research in Gongsol Village, with the title ANALYSIS OF LEAF GARNING BUSINESS (Allium Fistulusom L) in Gongsol Village, Merdeka District, Regency Karo.This study aims to analyze leek farming. The research was carried out in June - August 2023. Sampling used (Simple Random Sampling) and determining the number of respondents used the Slovin formula to obtain 30 respondent leek farmers. The research data used primary data obtained from interviews, questionnaires, and documentation with sample farmers in Gongsol Village, Merdeka District, Karo Regency.
