<![CDATA[This study was aimed at examining code switching in Sarah Sechan talk show program on NET TV. The objectives of the study are to find out the types of code switching occurring in the talk show, the process of code switching, and the reasons for code switching in the talk show. This research was conducted by using qualitative descriptive design. The source of data was Sarah Sechan talk show. There were five episodes of Sarah Sechan talk show as the data of this study. The technique of data collection was documentary technique and the instrument of data collection was recorder. The technique of data analysis was interactive model by Miles, Huberman and Saldana (2014). The findings showed that all types of code switching occurred in Sarah Sechan talk show with different proportion. The most dominant type occurring in the talk show is intra sentential switchingThe processes of code switching occurred in Sarah Sechan talk show are insertion, alternation and congruent lexicalization. Reasons for using code switching were expressing solidarity, ethnic identity marker, changing the topic, switching for affective meaning, and emphasizing the meaning. <![CDATA[ABSTRACTThe objectives of this study are to describe the interaction between the results of teaching by audio visual and audio teaching media, and motivation towards the students’ listening. The research design was experimental research by using factorial design 2x2. There were 64 students from grade eighth in 2020/2021 academic year of SMP Al Washliyah 8 Medan as sample of this research. The students were divided into two groups. The first group was treated by using audio visual media and the second group was treated by using audio media. The motivation test was conducted for classifying the students upon the high and low motivation by using questionnaire. Students’ achievement in listening was measured by using multiple choice tests. The data were analyzed by applying Two-ways ANOVA, the results revealed that students’ listening achievement taught by using audio visual media significantly higher than that taught by using audio media and students’ listening achievement with high motivation was higher than students with low motivation. There was significant interaction between dual teaching media and motivation on the students’ listening achievement with Fobserved is lower than Ftable at the level significance α = 0.05 (Fobs = 1.76 < Ftab = 2.81) however, the value of significant level is α = 0.19 higher than 0.05. <![CDATA[This study deals with Language Maintenance in Kelurahan Sudirejo II Medan. The objectives of the study are (1) to describe out the factors affecting Mandailing Languagein Kelurahan Sudirejo II Medan (2) to elaborate how Mandailingnese maintain the Mandailing Languagein Kelurahan Sudirejo II Medan, and (3) to reason for the manners or way by which they maintain Mandailing Languagein Kelurahan Sudirejo II Medan. The method of this study was descriptive qualitative research. The participants were twenty Mandailing people who live in Kelurahan Sudirejo II Medan. The data were taken from questionnaire and interview as instrument. Questionnaire was applied to collect the data about the factors affecting the Mandailing Language maintenane and strategies in maintaining ML. While the interview was applied to get data about the reason of Mandailing people maintain Mandailing Language. The data were analyzed by using Miles and Huberman matrix (1994). This research found the following results (1) There are seven factors affecting Mandailing Languagemaintenance in Kelurahan Sudirejo II Medan such as: Use of language in family (intermarriage and intermarriage), visiting homeland, use of the language in neighborhood domain, ethno linguistic vitality, living together in an area, use of the language in religion and practice of traditional ceremony. (2) to maintain Mandailing Language, the Mandailing people in Kelurahan Sudirejo II Medan conducted strategies like: Family language policy, using Mandailing Languagein daily life, using Mandailing Languagein social meeting or religious, using Mandailing Languagein cultural activity. (3) the reasons why the Mandailing people maintain the language are: they were proud being Mandailing people and speak Mandailing language and Mandailing Languageshows their identity as Mandailing people. <![CDATA[This research investigates 1) students’ achievement in reading comprehension taught by using Direct Reading Thinking Activity (DR-TA) strategy is higher than taught by using Know, What to Learn, and Learned (KWL) strategy, 2) students’ achievement in reading comprehension with impulsive learning style is higher than students’ achievement in reading comprehension with reflective learning style, and (3) there is interaction between teaching strategies and learning styles on the students’ achievement. Two classes containing of 70 students were chosen as sample by apllying cluster random sampling technique. The experimental group 1 was treated by using DR-TA and the experimental group 2 was treated by using KWL. The students’ achievement was measured by using test. The questionnaire was conducted to find out the students’ learning style. The data were analyzed by applying two-ways analysis of variance. The findings show that (1) the students’ achievement in reading comprehension taught by using DR-TA higher than using KWL; (2) students’ achievement in reading comprehension with impulsive learning style is lower than that with reflective learning style; (3) there is interaction between teaching strategies and learning styles on the students’ achievement in reading comprehension. The analysis revealed that the teaching strategies significantly affected the students’ reading achievement. <![CDATA[The objectives of the research are to identify how Donald Trumps realized his political motivation on his speech. The research picked Donald Trumps last speech campaign 2017. Here, the researcher will focus on identifying the way of political motivations are realized in Donald Trumps speech. The data were taken from Donald Trumps speech transcript that downloaded from internet and analyzed. Based on the result of data analysis, it is found that the motivation realized in Donald Trumps Speech are realized through 3 themes in his speech. <![CDATA[The objectives of the study are to find out the types of code switching occurring in the talk show, the process of code switching, and the reasons for code switching in the talk show. This research was conducted by qualitative content analysis method. The data were obtained from the downloaded videos and then were transcribed. The data were four episodes of Just Alvin talk show. The transcriptions were analyzed by applying qualitative method. The findings showed that all types of code switching, i.e. lexical, phrasal, clausal code switching, idiomatic code switching and proverbial code switching occurred in all episodes. The realization of code switching in the talk show by inserting a word or terms of English language and alternating the language in the form of idiom or proverb. The reasons for code switching were found, such as; (1) Avoiding candid talk about something sensitive and private, (2) Selecting the audience and protecting from negative opinion, (3) Avoiding candid talk about something embarrassing in our country. It is concluded that the different topic and context create different criteria too as reasons of someone switch their language. Keywords: achievement,code-switching, personal life]]>

<![CDATA[The objective of this study is to explain the reason of utilizing subtitling strategies in The Meg movie texts. The research methodology used in the research is qualitative research design. The data were analyzed by using interactive model of qualitative data management and analysis namely data collection, data condensation, data display and verification and conclusion. The findings of this study revealed that the reasons of translator used subtitling strategies in The Meg Movie Texts consisted of historical circumstances, traditions and the strategy to which is accustomed for both the source and the target viewer. <![CDATA[This study investigates the metaphor of modality in Mata Najwa Talk Show on Metro TV based on SLF approach. The objectives of this study are to identify the orientation of modality used in Mata Najwa Talk Show, to describe the orientation of metaphor of modality are used, and to explain the context of situation those metaphor of modality are used. The research design used is descriptive qualitative. The data were taken from three episodes in Mata Najwa talk show about KPK. The data were collected by downloading the video of Mata Najwa talk show from the internet. The finding shows that from four types of orientation of modality, the dominant orientation used in Mata Najwa Talk Show is objective implicit. It means that the speakers use congruent form of modality dominantly while expressing their judgment and attitude. The use of metaphor of modality in Mata Najwa Talk Show realized by the use of incongruent types of expressing meaning, that is by using projecting clause, nominalization and using preposition.
